Chapter 192 - Chapter 192: Please

Chapter 192: Please

"This smell is terrible," the man said disdainfully. "And isn't there any light in here? It's so dark—how is anyone supposed to see clearly?"

The Grass Ninja forced out a smile. "Then… let's move to another place for treatment."

For the few Medical-nin in the village, attitude was everything. If they offended one, there might be no one willing to treat them later.

After all, without this mother and daughter, they'd have to rely entirely on the village's Medical-nin for healing. And if their attitude wasn't good, who knew what kind of treatment they'd get next time?

Sure, they'd heal you—but how well was another matter.

For minor injuries, a spiteful medic could easily pretend it was serious, make you suffer for days, and teach you a lesson about respect.

Yes, Medical-nin were not to be offended.

As the Grass Ninja spoke, he stepped forward to carry the woman away. But Karin didn't believe a single word they said.

Ever since she and her mother had come to Kusagakure, not one of these Grass Ninja had ever told them the truth.

She stood stubbornly by her mother's bedside, like a mother hen protecting her chicks.

The Grass Ninja said helplessly, "We really are treating your mother. Please don't delay—your mother's condition is serious, can't you see how pale she is?"

Karin turned to look at her mother. The Grass Ninja wasn't wrong—her mother's face was deathly pale.

She'd been worrying for nights, but the Grass Ninja had ignored them completely.

So why were they suddenly acting kind now?

Though full of suspicion, Karin had no choice. She lowered her head and reluctantly stepped aside.

The Grass Ninja let out a quiet breath of relief when she finally moved.

He didn't dare to use force—not today. These two were to be handed over to the Konoha shinobi, and if anything happened, it would bring disaster upon him.

If this were the past, he'd have slapped the girl long ago instead of wasting time talking. But with Konoha watching, he had to swallow his temper. A few kind words were a small price to pay.

At the Kusagakure reception hall

An elder of the Grass Village, his wrinkled face wearing a forced smile, addressed the expressionless Uchiha Yashiro sitting opposite him.

"Sirs," he said cautiously, "that mother and daughter have been in our care for quite some time. When they first arrived, they were wandering and destitute, so we took pity and gave them shelter. May I ask what business you have with them?"

Uchiha Yashiro, who had been silently sipping his tea, finally looked up.

His cold gaze met the elder's, and in an instant, the old man felt a chill run through his heart. He tried to maintain composure but could not hide his unease.

After a long pause, Yashiro said evenly, "That's none of your concern. Just hand the mother and daughter over to us."

Then his brow furrowed slightly. "Why is it taking so long? Haven't they brought them here yet?"

"Y-Yes, yes," the elder stammered, wiping sweat from his forehead. He turned toward a nearby Grass Ninja and barked, "What are you standing around for? Go see what's taking so long—quickly!"

The Grass Ninja dashed out at once.

Meanwhile

After convincing Karin to step aside, the Grass Ninja carefully lifted the woman from the bed.

He was terrified she might die on the way—if that happened, it would be a disaster for him.

The Konoha shinobi were still in the village waiting for them.

Karin followed closely, her eyes fixed on her mother's frail figure.

The Medical-nin trailed behind as well. Despite his earlier complaints, he didn't dare delay. It was true that the light in the previous room had been too dim—he couldn't even see what he was doing properly.

No one could perform medical treatment blind.

After a few minutes, they arrived at another room. It was one of the resting quarters used by Grass Ninja—small but tidy, with proper furniture.

Compared to their drafty old hut, it was heaven.

Karin's eyes widened with curiosity. Ever since she could remember, she'd lived in that dilapidated shack. This was her first time stepping into a proper room.

Her gaze fell on the food left casually on the table, and she couldn't help swallowing nervously.

The sound was embarrassingly loud in the quiet room.

Her face went pale—had they heard her? Would they refuse to treat her mother now because of her?

Tears welled up in her eyes. She was always strong, but when it came to her mother, her composure broke.

The Grass Ninja coughed lightly and pointed to the food on the table. "That's extra. If you're hungry, you can eat."

He tried his best to smile kindly.

Karin shook her head quickly, terrified that any misstep might ruin her mother's chances.

Her mother came first—everything else could wait.

The Medical-nin had already begun the treatment.

The Grass Ninja spoke again, his tone coaxing. "It's fine, really. No one wants that food. Go ahead and eat."

But Karin stubbornly shook her head again.

He sighed. Maybe the girl was too embarrassed. So he picked up some of the food, placed it gently into her hands, and said, "It's okay, eat. Don't be shy."

If he could win over the little girl, maybe when the Konoha shinobi arrived, she wouldn't speak ill of them.

Karin froze, confused by his sudden kindness.

These Grass Ninja had never treated her like this before. Normally, they were cold, harsh, and quick to strike over the smallest things.

Now, she didn't know how to react.

She held the food nervously, unsure what to do.

"Why so stubborn, child? Uncle said it's okay—go on, eat."

The Grass Ninja forced another smile.

Seeing that her mother was indeed receiving treatment, Karin finally gave in and began nibbling hesitantly.

The Grass Ninja let out another quiet sigh of relief.

Just then, another Grass Ninja rushed into the room, panting.

He'd gone to the Uzumaki mother and daughter's old house, found it empty, and followed the light here.

"Hurry up," he hissed anxiously. "The elder's running out of excuses!"

Grass Ninja A shot him a sharp glare, signaling that the little girl was present—don't say too much.

Grass Ninja B finally noticed Karin and immediately shut his mouth.

Leaning close, he whispered, "The elder can't stall them any longer. You need to bring them over now!"

Grass Ninja A frowned, turned to the Medical-nin, and whispered urgently, "Are you done yet? They're waiting!"
