Chapter 46
The "Elijah" I spat out. "I am surprised you came alone", I continued. "It is good to see you" ,he spoke out in a slightly mocking tone, a smile splitting his face. Anger filled me at his words, his mocking tone almost causing me to strike him instantly, yet I held back, waiting for him to speak again. "You seem to have settled here quite well, yet I assume you still stand against me and Klaus," he said, his tone increasing in arrogance with each word.
"Your arrogance, like always, is monumental. I planned for us to work together to free Klaus from his curse, yet he chose to dagger us all, and still you stand with him. " I laughed out. "I am loyal to our family, unlike you. You who turned on Klaus to save a woman, to save Katherine. Your pathetic Asmund, and now you are once again betraying our family to side with a doppelganger," he spoke in calm arrogance.
"You think I betrayed our family. I gave Klaus the chance to break the curse and also save the doppelganger. For him to not have to mercilessly kill an innocent woman, whose only crime was sharing the face of Tatia. I thought you of all people would want to save someone who looks so much like Tatia" I shook my head at him, watching his face tighten slightly at my words
"Klaus betrayed us all, he betrayed us when he daggered you and our other siblings, when he tried to dagger me", I spoke again, scorn evident on my face. "He has made mistakes we all have, but I will not turn my back on him", he spoke. "No, instead you turn your back on the rest of us", I responded. At that, his face dropped, his mask slipping momentarily, though it was back up instantly, hiding his shame at his actions.
"You're here alone", I said, half stating, half asking. "Klaus is on his way, with vampires that are loyal to him" he responded. I nodded slightly, thinking for a moment before speaking again, "So he sent you here to fight me again. Did you tell him of the last time we fought, of how I struck you down?" I asked, laughing as I spoke.
"I am not here to fight you, brother", Elijah spoke. I was genuinely surprised at that, but also equally suspicious. At the look of confusion that now crossed my face, he spoke again, "I have come to offer you the chance to stand with us, to bring our family back together again" he spoke with an almost pleading tone.
"So that's it, you want me to join you because that is the only way out, siblings will join you" I spoke now understanding exactly why he came to me.
"why should I help either you?" I asked, I needed him to try and convince me to help him, otherwise my plan would not work. I needed to help Klaus break the curse, to turn Elena, to remove Klaus's ability to sire any hybrids. But I could not seem to be too eager, that would come across as suspicious, and it would raise Klaus's paranoia to an all-new level.
"You should help us because it would be the start of our family becoming one, as I said previously we need to work together to remain strong. When separated, we are weak, you know that deep down I know you do," he argued. I nodded, not necessarily agreeing, but not arguing either.
"Until Klaus decides he has had enough of us disagreeing with him. Then he will find a way to put us down. The daggers may have been destroyed, but he will find another way, it is who he is," I answered him.
"No, he won't. Between us all, we can keep him from doing anything stupid. If we become a family again, we will not fracture like we did in the past," Elijah spoke, wearing a look that said he believed his own words.
"Perhaps that is the case, perhaps we could keep him in line, we would be stronger together, that is obvious. But I can not condemn an innocent girl to an agonising death at the hands of our brother," I responded, showing a slight chance that I would agree with him.
"It can be quick and painless, it would be the best way for this to go. Otherwise, Klaus will slaughter everyone she knows as he did with Katherine. You could run with her, but that would just cause Klaus to do far worse. Give her up, let Klaus sacrifice her, pet her die a quick death" he continued to argue.
"Quickly", I said with some hesitation, "you give me your word she won't suffer or her family", I said with a tone that made him think I was still unsure. "I give you my word, brother, her family and she will not suffer", Elijah agreed, taking the bait.
"I will consider your words, brother", I responded with a look of contemplation. A slight smile appeared on his face for less than a second, no doubt thinking he had taken the first steps to sway me to his side.
"Good, we need to be a united front, especially with our father still running around. It will be good to be a family again" he spoke before turning and leaving.
The next step of my plan had gone relatively smoothly, Klaus would soon break the curse, Elena would become a vampire, and it would open Klaus up to attack. My two loyal brothers and I could incapacitate him and then make sure he never sees the light of day again. But I would only do that once he understood that his dream of creating an army of hybrids was completely shattered, once he knew that he had lost his dream, I would get revenge for Anne. He would regret the betrayal he committed centuries ago I would make sure of that.
Though all that would happen soon, until then I needed to meet with Kol and Finn, so I left and headed to the house Finn had acquired for himself. It was quite a nice little home, not as grandiose or extravagant as my own home; instead, it was comfortable and also unassuming. Heading inside, I was met with both of my brothers sitting in the main room, both of them looking completely different. Finn sat on a chair body sat straight up, he wore a dark grey suit like my own. Everything about him was neat, perfectly well done, the opposite of Kol. Kol himself was sitting lounging on another chair, one leg propped up on a coffee table, a bag of blood sat in his hand.
"It has begun",, I said, admittedly a bit dramatic, but it got my point across. "Klaus is here"? Finn asked. "No, Elijah. Though Klaus will follow soon after" I responded. My brothers showed no concern at the news, but I knew both of them were not so stupid as to ignore the news.
"So does he bring an army of vampires with him?" Kol asked, yet before I could respond, he spoke again, "Because if so, that is just more we get to kill" Kol continued with bloodlust in his eyes.
"No, Kol, as far as I can tell, he is alone, though Klaus will no doubt bring many vampires with him when he does come here", I responded. Kol's face dropped a bit at me, revealing that he would be robbed of a glorious fight.
"So what are we going to do about him"? Finn asked, "We will do exactly as we had planned, prepare for the ritual to break the curse and prepare to fight Klaus if anything goes wrong. Until he arrives, though, Kol, you should follow him, carefully don't allow him to know you are her,e," I answered.
Kol nodded at my words, and for a while, we ran through my plan again. Before I stood and turned to go home, I needed to let Rebekah and the others know that Elijah was here.
Chapter 47
The tension in the room was palpable, my siblings and I had met with Elijah to continue discussing the sacrifice. Kol still wanted to attack Elijah on sight, luckily Finn had managed to talk some sense into him, though I could still see that he was on the edge of jumping at Elijah. Rebekah, too, was on the side of Kol, thinking we should attack Elijah and be done with it. The fact that Elijah had sided with Klaus pissed all of us off, though Finn and I had enough foresight and control to talk Kol and Rebekah out of immediately attacking him.
"So what are you doing here?" Kol spat out, scorn evident on his face, "Still Klauses' lapdog,", he continued with a laugh. Elijah ignored the insult, but still shot a look of anger at Kol before he spoke, "Asmund told you why I am here; otherwise, we would not be meeting, would we?" he asked the last bit rhetorically.
Kol's jaw tightened, and he spoke again, "No, we wouldn't". Elijah nodded at him, keeping his eyes on his younger brother, out of everyone in the room Kol would be the first to attack him if he pushed too far.
"So you're here to do Klaus's bidding, to secure the doppelganger and the moonstone", Finn stated, trying to break some of the tension. "Only securing the doppelganger, I already have the moonstone", he said while pulling out the stone. Even from here, I could feel the magic inside of it, trying to break out, to free itself from its stony prison. Its appearance, even now centuries after I first saw it, still awed me.
In the show, I was kind of disappointed with the look of the stone, but here, it was far different. The stone was a pure white colour with lines of gold and black scattering it. The white of the stone seed to glow like with a pure white light, the gold lines glowed as well, seeming to stream out of it like sunlight, complementing the white. The lines of black, though, were a selfish shade, that seemed to steal all the light in the room, opposite to the rest of the stone.
I looked upon the mystical stone with a look of surprise. In the show, Katherine traded it off to a Lockwood to escape the tomb that the other Mystic Falls vampires were trapped in. But with the events not going the same way as they had in the show I had no idea how Elijah had gotten hold of it.
He seemed to notice my look and spoke, "I took it off some werewolves who wanted to break the moon curse. Spreading the rumours of the sun and moon curse was a good idea. Though they did try to resist me taking it, the few wolves did not stand much chance trying to defend it" he explained with a slight smirk. Proud of his slaying of a few wolves.
Even though he was completely loyal to Klaus, he never forgave the werewolves for their slaying of our youngest brother. None of us had, Finn hating them the most of us all, taking any chance he got to cull their number, yet Elijah usually had the restraint to not alienate Klaus
"You seem proud that you killed a few wolves. I knew you were the weakest of us", Kol laughed out, taking the opportunity to insult Elijah once again. Elijah let out a slight snarl, his mask slipping once again "If you truly think me so weak, come and test me", he said with a tone of anger. The insults from Kol had obviously cut him deep.
Kol stood with anger on his face, not sharing in the control Finn and I had. Finn stood half in front of him, prepared to stand in between our two brothers as both were starting to fall into anger. "Perhaps you should calm yourselves," Finn said, leaving no chance for them to question him.
Elijah regained control over himself instantly his mask slipping back over his face with ease. Kol took a step back, anger still on his face yet fighting against it for the sake of everyone in the room. Tension still simmered in the room as all of us stayed silent, waiting for the others too speak.
"Why?" the question surprised us all, and I saw a tear in Rebekah's eye as she asked again, "Why?". Our youngest sibling, our sister, the love of my life her face filled with pain. Not the rage, hate, anger or disgust of the rest of us, just pure pain, directed at Elijah. "Why, did you abandon us for him?" she asked, finishing the question as another tear fell from her eyes as she came to rest on my shoulder.
The question broke the tension in the room completely, and Elijah's face now wore an expression of guilt. "he is our brother; we swore to never abandon one another. I couldn't betray him," Elijah spoke, trying to defend himself. His words didn't even come close to helping the situation; instead, Rebekah seemed even more distraught, though she remained quiet.
"So," Finn started, drawing the attention of everyone in the room, "the next full moon is in two weeks," he continued. "I assume Klaus is going to want to break the curse then. He has waited a thousand years and is on his way" he finished.
"Yes, he does, he brings everything he needs for it, minus the moonstone and the doppelganger, of course", Elijah responded "You should prepare her",, he continued.
"She knows already and has agreed to it. She doesn't want her family to be slaughtered by Klaus. Just as long as it's painless and quick," I responded with seriousness. "If, though, Klaus harms her family or her friends, I will personally put him down," I said, my tone threatening.
Elijah nodded slowly, taking my words seriously "Okay, good. I will keep Klaus in line as long as you hold up your end of the deal", he responded before looking around the room. "I have other things to deal with. I am leaving" he finished before turning and leaving.
"He has gotten worse" Kol's voice broke the silence that had settled in the room. "I thought you beating him, then staking him, might have humbled him, but it seems to have had no effect", Kol continued. I nodded in agreement with Kol, and so did Finn.
"We too should head off", Finn said while looking over at me "We will talk later", he finished. "Yeah, we should. I will keep an eye on Elijah still", Kol said while following Finn out.
I brought Rebekah into a hug, comforting her that centuries of strife between our family had affected us all, though she had taken it the worst. She still wished that we would eventually make peace with Klaus and even our father, a small part of her still being the innocent girl. The one that spent her days doing minor chores and followed me around, who loved nothing more than to watch me spar with our brothers.
"I have something to do, come with me. It will be fun," I said, looking down into her beautiful eyes. "Okay, what are we doing?" she asked with that same innocent smile. Her eyes were slightly red from her recent tears, but she now looked up in excitement. "You will find out", I said, scooping her into my arms and walking out of the house before kicking off into the air.
"You know I can fly myself", she spoke into my ear. "I know, but I think we both prefer when I carry you", I responded. She didn't try to deny my words, instead she just pushed herself further into my arms and looking down I saw a smile on her face.
I took my time gently sailing through the air, allowing us both to enjoy the journey. After around five minutes, I saw my target and I shot down towards it, Wickery Bridge.
"What are we doing here" Rebekah asked, while looking at me slightly confused. "Wickery Bridge, it has been here since the town was first built. Though it was replaced a century ago with a very specific type of wood," I answered slightly cryptically. Rebekah looked even more confused for a moment before a look of realisation crossed her face.
"It can't be, are you sure? It's white oak," she responded, when I nodded, her face turned to surprise again. I took a lighter out of my pocket, for going my magic for now and handed it to Rebekah. "We should get rid of it", I stated.
She looked even more surprised before she took the lighter from my hand and went over to the bridge. The flame would not catch instantly, so I gave it a slight push energising the flame just enough for the bridge to start burning. Rebekah came over, handed the lighter back to me, and asked, "Are we heading home then?"
"No, we need to make sure it is completely burnt, plus I brought something to make the night even better", I said while reaching into my pocket and pulling out a couple of skewers and a pack of marshmallows. Rebekah gave me a look, "Seriously", she asked as a massive grin split across her face. "Well, I thought we needed a bit of fun, and it went hand in hand with the arson", I said while I passed her one of the skewers.
I cast a bit of magic over is both to keep us invisible before I stood up to go over to the fire. The bridge burned furiously over the next ten minutes as Rebekah and I joked around and ate marshmallows. All in all, it was quite a nice time and I knew it would probably be the best part of the next couple of weeks.
Chapter 48
In three days, the full moon would descend on Mystic Falls, and the ritual to break the hybrid curse would occur. I was currently making sure everything was prepared, finding a spot far enough away from the town to make sure we would not be disturbed, while also being far enough away from where the werewolves would be.
A decent-sized natural clearing with a perfect view of the moon, when at its apex, the moon would be unobstructed. Allowing the witch that would break the curse to channel the power of the full moon and use it with the moonstone and the sacrifices to break the curse. A lot of preparation for one ritual, though hopefully in the end it would be worth it.
The past week and a half had flown by, mainly in preparation, yet I continued with my life away from that. I had a job at the high school that managed to keep my mind off the ritual looming over all our heads. I knew that even after the curse was broken he would try to kill Elena, especially when he found out he could not make hybrids from his blood alone.
In the show, Klaus tried to kill Elena after he found he could not make hybrids, wrongly assuming that she had to be dead for him to be completely free of the curse. I knew that was not the case, though I would be unable to convince him of that; instead, I would have to stand between him and the doppelganger. Elijah would side with him and attempt to kill Elena after the ritual, so I would have to fight them both.
The thought did not concern me too much, especially at the moment, as I was teaching a class. Teaching took my mind off the insanity that was the supernatural world for a scant few moments. History naturally came to me, I suppose, when you live through a thousand years of history, you would take an interest in it. At least a small interest, though I had taken a far larger interest, keeping a track of all I had lived through was easy with my near-perfect memory, and it was extremely useful in teaching. When I finally got a proper moment of peace from the chaos of my family perhaps I might write a history book, one that would cover as much as I could cram into it.
I looked around at my class, hostile looks were shot at me from Tyler Lockwood, since I had killed his uncle, he had been wary, though that did not extend to the looks he shot my way. Next to him sat Matt, perhaps my only student who seemed to show no real care about me, not hate, disgust or anything positive, just normal, boring neutrality.
Vicki, the young vampire who had returned to classes completely sat behind Matt, hesitant looks shot at me between the bored looks around the room. Stefan sat next to her, caution and suspicion evident on his face, never once looking directly at me, obviously still fearful from the couple of previous interactions we had. Then there was Bonnie, who looked extremely bored, compared to the magic I taught her, history would be boring, especially since she was so far ahead.
The last two students who caught my interest were Caroline and Elena. Both of the young woman's eyes never left me, following my every movement like it was the most important thing to them. Each time my eyes met either of there's they shot me smirks and winks, almost daring me to respond, too shoot one bank. Yet I did not, knowing full well that it would cause nothing but trouble if I were caught.
The bell rang and my last class of the day filed out, the students rushing to be the first out of the door. With the last of my students disappearing through the door, the moments of peace disappeared, bringing me back to my previous thoughts.
The door creaked back open and I saw the familiar face of Alaric Saltzman walking through the door. I had made sure not to get too familiar with the man, as his hatred of vampires could prove annoying. Yet I had not gone out of my way to be hostile to the man or even to try to lessen his hatred of vampires, mainly because the vampire that his hate was directed at was Damon. Honestly, it was amusing watching his attempts to hunt Damon, yet having no luck in killing the vampire as of yet.
"Mr Saltzman, what can I do for you?" I asked the man a greeting. I turned to face the man and instantly knew that something was wrong, the psychotic smile he wore and the madness in his eyes being the complete opposite of everything I had seen from him. I stood as he came closer, reading each of his actions, trying to figure out what was wrong with him.
Then it hit me, it wasn't Alaric, the smile, the madness in his eyes, the insanity that seemed to radiate off of him. I knew exactly who it was.
"Klaus", at that, his smile widened. His body-hopping trip from the show, he had taken it up here as well. I remembered him causing chaos in the show while wearing the face of Alaric, it seems as though he wanted to do the same here.
"You saw through my disguise", he laughed out. "It's hard to disguise your madness", I responded, gaining another laugh from him. "Are you not happy to see me, brother" he continued laughing as he spoke.
"No" I responded. The tension in the air was palpable. I knew that in Alaric's body, Klaus would not risk a fight; he was too weak. But my brother was also unlikely to walk into a room without some kind of plan, doubly so when someone who was stronger than him was in said room.
"Hijacking bodies now, brother, did you misplace yours?" I said mockingly. "I just wanted to look around Mystic Falls without giving myself away, though you seem to have destroyed that want", he responded. He was lying; it was obvious that he didn't want to look around Mystic Falls, not really. Most likely he wanted to spy on the rest of us, to see what our capabilities are. Unfortunately for him, no matter what face he wears, I can recognise him, even if it takes me a few minutes to see through the disguise, I will always do so.
He smiled again, "Have you got my doppelganger?" he asked, knowing full well I did, yet wanting me to confirm it. "Yes, you know I do, otherwise you would not be here, would you?" I responded. Klaus walked around the room, examining its contents with casual interest "No, I wouldn't. It's good to know you have gained some intelligence and sided with me", he said with a slight smile.
I responded with a slight nod, ignoring his insult. "Teaching, I never took you for a teacher", he said, changing the topic of the conversation. "I was always good at teaching and it's history, it's relatively easy when you have lived through most of what you teach" I responded honestly.
He smiled again at that "I suppose that makes sense", he said. "Though don't allow your fondness for your students to make you do anything stupid during the ritual", he said before turning to leave.
I watched him leave with annoyance inside me and slight anger at Klaus's words he and Elijah share in their arrogance.
Chapter 49
It was the night of the full moon, and a chill filled the air as we stood around waiting for Klaus and Elijah to appear. My siblings and I stood with Elena, waiting for Klaus to show his face finally.
The moon was almost at its apex in less than half an hour, and when it did, the time for the ritual would be here. We had been waiting for a while when Klaus finally did appear, multiple other individuals with him, though Elijah was absent. I recognised three of them Jonas, Luka and Greta Martin, the former two helping Elijah to find a way to neutralise Klaus. They wrongly believed that Klaus had killed Greta and wanted revenge, not knowing that Greta had been turned into a vampire by Klaus.
"Brother, I am glad to see you are here. I thought you may have tried to run" Klaus spoke, looking over us all. "Finn, Kol, Rebekah, it's good to see you too, I'm glad we have been brought together again", Klaus continued with a smirk. Klaus took his eyes off of us as they went to Elena, "So this is the doppelganger that had caused so many issues", he spoke with his smile widening.
The witches Klaus brought with him had begun moving, drawing a circle on the ground and drawing dozens of different runes inside it. They worked quickly, most likely having practised setting up the ritual multiple times so as not to get anything wrong, lest they stir Klauses'' anger.
"Brother, glad to see you're no longer inhabiting others' bodies," I said, drawing his attention off of Elena and into me once again. "Yes, well, it's good to be back to myself again. I do need to have this body for the ritual, no matter how fun it was to cause trouble in someone else's," he responded, his smirk widening even more as he spoke.
I nodded slowly, "Shall we get this over with?" I asked him, wanting to get this over with as soon as possible. "One moment, we just need to wait for Elijah to get here", he responded. I had wondered where Elijah was, if he was even coming, though Klaus confirming he was on his way was a bit suspicious, why had he not arrived with Klaus.
Before I could ask Klaus where our other brother was Elijah appeared in a blur of motion. Though he was not alone, in his hands was a struggling Jenna. "What is the meaning of this? You gave your word that Elena's family would not be harmed"? I asked.
"she won't be. As long as the ritual goes right and you don't try anything. Think of it as insurance" Klaus answered with a laugh. "Elena, what's happening?" Jenna spoke through tears. Before Elena could speak, Elijah turned to look into her eyes "Be quiet",, he said, compelling the young woman.
The tension rose as Elena stepped forward slightly, before seeming to remember who stood before her. "Don't hurt her, please, I won't try anything", she said in tears. "Good", Klaus answered before turning to the witches, who seemed to have finished the ritual circle.
"Are we ready?" he asked the witches. They stood as one "yes," the one that seemed to be in charge answered simply. "Then let's get this over with", he said, walking over to the main rune circle as the werewolf and the vampire that he brought with him walked to two other circles. Elena was then directed to the last circle as the witches got closer. Each of the circles lit up with fire, sealing each of their inhabitants inside of them. Torches lit as the rings closed, surrounding them all in the shape of a pentagram, a greenish flame coming from the torches.
One of the witches pulled the moonstone from their pocket and started chanting; the moonstone rose. The golden lines glowed all the brighter with each word as it rose into the air. The light increased in intensity, becoming blinding within moments, akin to the sun, then it shattered like glass sending blinding light shooting out in all directions.
"The first part is done. Now you need to sacrifice, kill the werewolf, then the vampire, and finally the doppelganger," the lead witch spoke. Klaus walked over to the werewolf, who was kneeling with his hands raised in almost reverance at the approaching Klaus.
"My lord, kill me. Free yourself and save our species," the werewolf spoke aloud for us all to hear. Klaus looked down at the kneeling werewolf before driving his hand into his chest, pulling out his heart and providing him with a quick death. The torches roared with green flame, growing in both size and intensity so much that I could feel the power from dozens of feet away.
Klaus walked over to the vampire, who was also kneeling and wearing a look of reverence. Klaus had told them lies to convince them to willingly give up their lives.
The vampire looked up, yet did not speak, instead just smiling and moving her hands to her sides. Klaus trusts his hand forward again, driving it into the vampire's chest and pulling out her heart. Her body dropped and the flames roared all the brighter and powerful, as Klaus walked to Elena.
Elena was standing, unlike the others; she was trembling, a tear still in her eye, even though she had fed on my blood, she was scared of the fate that awaited her. She looked to Jenna and opened her mouth to speak, but she did not even manage to get a single word out before Klaus showed his hand into her chest and tore her heart out as he had done to the other two sacrifices.
Elena's body dropped, and the flames roared all the more, the flames reaching extraordinarily high into the air. A massive amount of magical pressure filled the air, then released rapidly, just as the moon reached its apex.
Klaus dropped to the floor in agony as his bones started to break, skin stretched over the breaking bones and he writhed around in pain. Elijah dropped the now crying Jenna to the floor and moved over to Klaus. Rebekah moved as we planned and grabbed Elena's body before disappearing back to our home as Kol moved to kill the witches. Finn moved to Elijah and drove a stake into his heart as I picked up Jenna and then we spread off. Screams were left behind us as Kol butchered the witches, and soon the now blood-covered Kol was following behind us.
We arrived back home within moments Elena lay inside the main room on a sofa, with Caroline, Rose, Rebekah, Katherine and Alexandria around her. Each was waiting for the brunette to awaken as a vampire, as we entered, they turned to us. "It went as planned, then," Alexandria asked.
Before I could answer, Jenna moved past us all and went to Elena's side, completely crying at her niece's side. I walked over and laid my hand on her shoulder, "She will be okay," I said simply. "How? She's dead. Why didn't you help her?" she responded through tears. "Yes, she is. But she will come back as a vampire, like us," I explained.
Jenna shot back away from us at my words before finally realising everything that had happened in the last few hours. The displays of strength shown by Klaus, a human after all, could not tear out the heart of another's heart. The speed that we all displayed was moving faster than she could even perceive. The magic, the green flames that acted unnaturally, everything hit her at once as she looked around at us all with fear.
"What did you say?" she asked accusingly. "You know what I said, we are vampires and Elena will be soon enough", I explained again. "That's, that's not possible, it can't be", Jenna said again while looking around, then her eyes fell onto Katherine. Her eyes widened significantly and she pointed an accusing finger in her direction.
"A doppelganger", I said before she could even raise a question about Katherine's appearance. "Elena is a doppelganger too. One of many in a long bloodline of them," I said, watching Jenna's face turn to one of surprise. "How, why?" she asked. I smiled and looked at her "That is an extremely long story and one for another time", I said, saving the story of Amara and Silas for another day.
Before Jenna could say anything more, Elena stirred, then eventually sat fully up. I moved to her with a blood bag, handing it to her. She looked at me momentarily before taking the bloodbag from me and starting to drink. Blood spilt from the bag down her chin as she greedily drank from the bag, and her transformation finished, and she fully became a vampire. Fangs descended from her gums as her fingertips extended to become claws, a trail of blood ran down her mouth and neck as she finished the blood bag. A smile split across her face and she dragged her hand through the trail of blood and took it to her mouth.
Chapter 50
Elena looked around the room at us all, her eyes tracing over us, her enhanced vision no doubt focusing on every inch of us all, seeing us in a new light and finally getting the scope of what it takes to be a vampire and a supernatural entity. Her eyes fell on Caroline and Jenna, her fangs that had receded into her gums slipping out again, yet surprisingly she did not pounce on them to feed.
Elena's hunger seemed to be restrained, able to stop herself from pouncing on her best friend and her aunt. "Jenna", Elena's voice broke the silence, a hint of sadness in her voice "You weren't supposed to know about any of this", she continued.
"Why not, Elena? You should have told me I could have helped you", Jenna spoke, a hint of betrayal in her voice. "I wanted to protect you" Elena responded.
Jenna's expression softened as she responded, "I am supposed to be protecting you, not the other way around, Elena".
"And the rest of you should not have hidden all of this from me", she continued with an accusing look at the rest of us.
"Perhaps we should have. Though it would most certainly have just caused more problems than it solved. My brother dragging you into this should have never happened, and he will surely get his retribution for involving you in this" I spoke, trying to defend Elena's decision to leave Jenna out of this.
Jenna nodded, considering my words for a moment, "Well, you should have told me anyway, though I suppose arguing over it won't change the past", she responded before once again looking at Elena. "You're a vampire then. That doesn't make sense, how can you be a vampire" she asked, confusion evident in her tone.
"She died with vampire blood, my blood in her system and was brought back by the magic that flows through vampire blood, turning her into one of us", I explained simply.
"You're all vampires, then", Jenna asked while looking over us all.
"All but Caroline, in fact, myself and three of my siblings", I started while gesturing to Kol, Finn and Rebekah "We are some of the first vampires", I continued. Jenna's eyes widened at that, and she spoke again, "The first, how old are you?" she asked in surprise.
"Just over a thousand years old", Kol answered before I could, a slight tone of amusement in his tone. "A thousand years?" Jenna repeated in surprise. "That's" she began, allowing it to trail off. "Wait, you said that one of them was your brother," she said accusingly.
"Two of them, we don't get on well", I answered. "Why did they do all that? Why did they kill Elena?" she asked vaguely.
I thought for a moment, wondering how much to tell her.
"A ritual to gain more power, one of my brothers is half werewolf and he wanted to unlock that side. Elena, being a doppelganger was needed for the ritual. Klaus would have never stopped hunting her if we had tried to stop him from completing the ritual. The simplest way to protect Elena and everyone she cares about was to allow the ritual to go ahead," I explained to her.
Jenna nodded at my words, appearing to understand or at the very least not entirely "You should have still told me", she said while standing.
"Where are you going?" Elena asked her.
"Home, I need to think", she responded.
Jenna walked out of the door and off home, the night's events still haunting her, though hopefully she would be able to get over everything that had happened. At the very least, she was still alive, unlike her show counterpart, which was one of the sacrifices.
"Do you think she'll be alright?" Elena asked with a worried look.
"She will be, she just needs time", I responded, allowing the room to fall silent after my words.
The silence remained for a couple of minutes before Kol broke it, "What now?" At his words, the entire room looked towards me. "Now we wait, Klaus will spend the next week or two trying to turn werewolves into hybrids. Of course, he won't be able to. Then I guess he will return here to find out what went wrong, until then we should keep Elena hidden, or at least she should be careful," I answered.
"What of the werewolves that resides here?" Finn now asked. "I have already warned Hayley, they will be keeping their heads down for the next couple of weeks. Long enough for Klaus to disappear from Mystic Falls," I responded, gaining a nod from Finn.
"Good, the last thing we need is pissed off werewolves trying to interfere in your plans" he continued
"That we don't. Though that said, when Klaus returns there is a good chance he may not even try talking. He may just go straight into violence, especially since he now has the extra strength and speed from his werewolf side" I said, noting the slight nods from Finn and Kol.
"We can still fight him. He has always been a sloppy fighter," Kol said with complete confidence. "Perhaps we can, though you should still be cautious, try not to get into a physical confrontation if you're alone," I responded.
"Then it's settled. When we leave the house, Kol and I will stay together, Asmund and Rebekah will do the same, so if Klaus does attack us, we will have a greater chance of overcoming him," Finn spoke, leaving no room for arguments from the rest of us.
"We should be fine then, we'll see if that's the case, I am going home", Kol said while making his way to the door. Finn nodded at us before following our younger, more reckless brother.
"What about me and Caroline?" Elena asked after Kol and Finn had left. "You're welcome to stay here, Klaus can't enter without an invite, and even if he could, there are other protections in place," I responded, Elena and Caroline seeming to think on my words before nodding in agreement.
"You would also be able to practice with your new abilities as well" I said with a smile. It seemed to hit Elena in that moment that she was now a vampire and had a large range of abilities. Though she would not have most of the abilities of he originals, she would still have super speed and immense strength.
"I can't wait, it feels like I am on the verge of exploding, I feel so powerful" Elena said excitedly. I didn't blame her. I knew the feeling. Every ounce of you flowed with power, strength filled every muscle, dwarfing anything you had previously felt. It was truly overwhelming.
I stood before turning to face Elena, "Come on, then we may as well start now. Let's see how fast you are" I said before walking outside. Woods stretched for a couple of miles behind our house providing the perfect training ground miles away from any prying eyes.
I stood a few dozen metres away from the house, and Elena and the others stood near the door. "Run at me. Kick off with all your strength. You need to use every ounce of your strength just as you used to when you were human," I said, trying to explain the process of using the vampire speed.
Elena hesitated for a moment before running forward, yet she didn't shoot off just running normally. That was expected, it took time to learn how to use the abilities, it was a skill and like all others, you needed practice. We went on like that for about twenty minutes before finally Elena shot off.
She ran straight into me, having about as much control as could be suspected which is none, and she hit me head-on. The young brunette crashed into me with a massive amount of force, though she did not move me even a centimetre. "That was good, now you just need to learn how to control the speed, so you don't crash into a wall every time you use it," I said with a small laugh.
"Once you have got that, we can go on to compulsion and your strength. That last one is the most important for you to be able to control, the last thing you want to do is rip a door off its hinges accidentally," I said before, one again sending Elena back to the door so she could continue practising with her vampiric speed.
