Chapter 2 - Before The Story Begins (Building Feelings)

Moving closer to Jane she assured her "You won't have to worry about that I have it covered." A specialty of Vector's is distorting the space around themselves and others. Hiding a person with a reflection field was a task so basic that none Accursed knew about the technique. "Besides, even if it's revealed, no one can stop me from seeing the woman I've decided to be mindful of."

Jane's heart skipped a beat and her ears turned pink "Oh I see." With a smile on her face, she walked beside him. 'He must be an Accursed…Could I be so lucky?'

With a few minutes of small talk and enjoying the weather they stopped in front of a small building that read 'Willow barrel bar.'

Jane was taken aback by his choice...because he nailed it. "How did you know!?"

He glanced at her "Know what? I just figured this is your style, cozy and out of the way from the bustling city square."

Jane looked at him with relief. "I've been wanting to try this place out for a long time! I heard they use ember wood from an infused willow tree for their cooking and barrels for aging their ale." She went on about the rejuvenation ember wood infused ale gives and the process of getting such a sought after wood.

Redgwrick "You seem to know a lot about the Goldenfields and the willow trees, have you ever seen one in person?"

Jane "Aww no...I would love to see one in person. I heard they are beautiful and emit such strong resonance, especially the ones that absorb Sun energy. But the Goldenfields are so far away, and I've never been past the outer wall." Jane became crestfallen over the lack of world traveling she had accomplished.

Redgwrick, wanting to cheer her up, offered his arm and took her inside.

Both walked into the establishment and quickly noticed the atmosphere inside was 'homey.' With a standing bar to the left, dining tables in the middle, ornate by a crystalline chandelier and a lifted section to the right. Small stairs and golden railings leading to a separate but smaller dining area that overlooked the rest of the room, lit well by a warm hearth in the center of the wall.

Jane quickly chose a table near the hearth with its warmth filling the small but uncramped dining floor. Redgwrick noticed how the light from the fire backlit her sharp features and danced with her silver hair. "Well maybe someday you'll get a chance to visit."

Before she could reply, the waitress came to take their order.

Redgwrick "I'll have a fire roasted potatoes with salt and cheese with a bowl of beef stew with extra carrots, a side of ice cream, and milk."

Jane raised her eyebrow 'Huh, unexpected.'

"Could I get the vinaigrette salad with extra onions and green olives, along with your daily baked bread and jam please."

Redgwrick 'cute.'

As they ate Jane used this opportunity to peel back the layers of this mysterious man, and she decided to start big. "So Red, you are an Accursed aren't you?"

Red Looks into her eyes expecting these questions. "Before I answer questions we need to set the expectations for this relationship. What are your intentions with me, I'll also need to confirm some things about your abilities, from what I can tell you can either tell when people are lying or read their emotions?"

Jane "That's...fair, yes I can read people's emotions but more acutely I can look into people's souls and as a consequence infer what they are feeling" With a thoughtful pause she looks at him with a look of longing. "As for my intentions with you. I have grown…Intrigued by you and wish to form a connection. A connection that's not determined or severely scrutinized by my family."

Red narrowed his eyes not expecting this level of trust from her. Redgwrick was at a crossroads and had to make a choice. Breaking away from her silver eyes he looks into the fire, "I see..." At this moment he quickly analyzed why his behavior was so different when it came to her, 'why am I so docile...so comfortable around her?' He looked into her eyes which looked like they contained a storm. 'It's not like I can lie to her anyway.'

"Your suspicions are correct, I am an undocumented Vector and not to brag but an especially strong one, hence why right now if someone were to look into this establishment they wouldn't see us but rather just some empty seats."

Jane's eyes widened and she felt a tingle down her spine. 'He must trust me, right? If he's telling me this.' she looked down to her almost empty plate "I had my guesses but to have them confirmed feels nerve racking." After that, they sat in comfortable silence finishing up their meals.

Jane fiddled with her fork and glanced up at him, "I suppose this means we agree...with trying to establish a 'deeper' connection?"

Redgwrick wanted to laugh at the question, shaking his head a little. "You asking that question after we've shared such secrets, shows a lot...it's endearing, cute even."

Jane flicked her fork a little harder than she intended in her flustered state "Waah!? I can't help it, I haven't done anything like this on my own."

Enjoying the show Redgwrick wanted to continue teasing the young woman, but he thought better of it. Instead he stands and offers his arm. "Shall we, I can walk you home?" Still blushing from his teasing she took her arm and wrapped it around his, "Thank you."

Redgwrick and Jane took a leisurely walk enjoying the sounds of a quieting city getting ready for a day's end. Both could not help but steal glances at one another, sometimes catching each other's eyes, resulting in Jane looking forward in nervousness and Redgwrick to chuckle.

They arrived at her apartment door with the sun just before sunset basking the sky in deep oranges and pinks. They faced each other. Redgwrick was the first to say, "I had a good time tonight. It was a pleasant divergence from my usual schedule."

Jane looked at him with captivation on her face. 'he has such a handsome face...' she shook herself out of her trance. "I'm happy to hear. It was nice, thank you for the lovely evening."

Before he could reply, she had a bold idea. Swiftly she lightly got on her tippy toes and planted a small kiss on the intersection between his lips and right cheek. She quickly ran inside and slammed the door. *Bang!*

Redgwrick left speechless on the patio, had a small smile forming undenounced to himself. "She's unbelievable."

Spinning on the balls of his feet he walked home enjoying the cool night air and the eventful evening.

On the other side of the door, Jane fell to the floor sliding against the door and covering her bright red face with both hands. "Jeez, was that too fast, too bold?"

Letting her heart settle she stood, "Well, what's done is done." With a smile and lightness in her steps, she retired for the night.
