I stopped and looked around the hallway.
The people all had smiles on their faces. Joy at last. Bliss at last. No problems for me. I smiled to myself. Home.
"I see you're still basking in the joy of finally being free from earth and its problems," a voice said behind me.
I turned around and saw a young lady who was likely my age. She was very pretty and her smile showed her perfectly white teeth.
"I am Jacintha. You can call me Jessie," she said extending her hand.
I took it. It felt soft like that of a baby.
"I'm Elizabeth. You can call me whatever you like," I said with a smile.
She laughed softly.
"I like that," she said.
"So, heaven, huh," I said.
"It's always been here for me," she replied.
She motioned to me to follow her.
"We need to get you officially signed in."
As I walked beside her, I began examining the structures in the hall. The building was made of gold. Paintings were hung on the walls. Paintings out of the world, I mean I was out of the world but still, they were gorgeous. Paintings of golden trees with golden fruits - I wondered how yummy they would taste. There were paintings of angels, wearing golden garments with wings as white as worldly snow. There wasn't a painting of any human yet, I noticed. But then it might be rectified soon. I saw paintings of a golden bird, golden grass...
Okay, they love gold. I thought to myself and grinned.
Maybe I'll be wearing a golden gown soon. Who knows?
I turned to face Jessie who was also looking at the paintings.
"When did you arrive here?" I asked.
"Thirty minutes ago. I already signed in but I haven't been given a place to stay yet. The person signing us in told me to look for the next person to come in and show you where to do the signing. That's how it is here. I think we will be rooming in twos." Jessie replied.
Rooming with her? Heaven just got better. The thing is during my time on earth, girls avoided me for reasons I did not understand. I was never a girl's girl. I was an alone girl and that was about to change.
"That's so cool," I said with excitement in my voice.
"What do you think the houses look like?" I continued.
We were almost close to the end of the hallway now. Ahead of us was a long golden table and seated behind it were ten angels.
"I don't know actually. Remember what the creator's son said about there being mansions?" she said.
"Yes?" I remembered that.
"Maybe we would live in mansions, who knows?" she said.
"But then it could have been a figure of speech," I said to her.
"That's also possible," she replied.
We got to the end of the hallway. Jessie walked up to the second angel. There were other people on the line probably waiting to be signed. Most were lined up in twos.
The line wasn't too long. We waited behind six rows of people.
While we waited I glanced over at the other columns. And then I saw him.
Our eyes met and he jogged over to where Jessie and I stood.
"Jordan," I said as he opened his arms wide for a hug.
"Elizabeth," he said as we hugged.
It had been five whole years since we last saw each other.
Now we were in eternity together.
