"Adam, Ad-man," Jake said, his voice a playful, childish whine. "This is a murder case with a twist. The twist is... a hot medical examiner."
The conversation was a high-stakes, methodical game of cat and mouse. Adam used his foreknowledge to provide key details to Jake, disguised as "lucky guesses." He had a conversation with Boyle where he used a subtle metaphor about emotional honesty. The comedic element was Boyle eating a ham sandwich during an autopsy, with Adam's internal monologue being a mix of revulsion and amusement.
"Boyle," Adam said, his voice a low, firm tone. "You're eating a sandwich during an autopsy."
"It's a ham sandwich," Boyle said, his voice a low, rambling monotone. "It's a comfort food. It's a symbol of... life. A symbol of hope in a world of death."

He was a pawn in two games at once, caught between a ghost from his past and a ghost from his future. His life was not his own. It was a battlefield. The game had just begun. And he was a pawn in a game he didn't want to play.
