Morning sunlight stretched across the Blake estate courtyard, almost peaceful enough to make leaving feel unreal.
Two large travel carriages stood ready near the gates, their trunks already secured behind them.
Daphne stood near the steps, wrapped tightly in her brother's arms.
"You write," he said gruffly. "Frequently."
"I will."
"And if he overworks you..."
"Finn..." Daphne laughed.
Finn shot Alaric a pointed look anyway.
Alaric raised both hands slightly. "I surrender in advance."
That earned a small chuckle from Finn before he stepped back.
Aidan approached next, pulling Alaric into a brotherly hug.
"Take care of yourself," Aidan said. "And this time… actually rest."
Alaric huffed softly. "I rest."
Aidan pulled back, giving him a look that clearly said liar.
"I mean it," Aidan added. "You've both earned peace."
Alaric nodded once. "I intend to keep it."
Lianna stood close to Daphne, looking unhappy.
Finn crossed his arms. "Do you really have to go?"
