Chapter 3 - Abilities

Once I was back in my room, I read through the little stack of papers that Tracy had given me.

In them were the details of my five targets, whom I was supposed to assassinate in the next two weeks of time.

What I had understood so far was that these were the people who, at some point along the flow of time, had made a grudge with the Black Death, or Captain Tracy.

Two of them were former pirates who would temporarily settle down at places to set up business for short periods of time. Once they would make a certain amount of profit, they would then quickly leave the place and start their business somewhere else.

The leader of the two was Jameson Bacardi, who was a beyonder of the Marauder pathway, a Sequence 8 Swindler, with a bounty of 900 pounds on his head, while the other was a normal man called Bernardo Russell with a bounty of 100 pounds.

Of the remaining three, two were common pirates who were currently in Bayam while their ships were docked at certain private docks. These two, at some point, had offended Wormtongue Mithor King, the current Third Mate of Black Death, and when captain had asked for targets, he had given their names and information, and a reward of 50 pounds each, in case they were assassinated.

Now that someone new had recently become an assassin on the crew, it only made sense that these few missions would be handed out to help that person digest their potion.

The last target was a man named Big Nose Freddy, who was a barely popular thief on the sea, and he had stolen the Second Mate Grimthunder Allen Bower's pocket watch, several weeks ago.

Considering that he stole an object from a Sequence 6 Wind Blessed of the Sailor pathway, he was at least a Sequence 9 Marauder.

Going through all the details, I grasped the faces and information of my targets, after which I lit up a matchstick to burn the stack of papers in a trash can, making sure that the fire doesn't grow beyond the trash can itself.

Besides that dossier, I had been given notes regarding basic mysticism knowledge, covering things like the spirit world, the astral world, the body of heart and mind, the spirit body, and the powers of the first two sequences of the Marauder pathway, since my targets were beyonders from that particular pathway.

After learning all I could, I was exhausted. Especially when I had just become a beyonder and cogitated for a good amount of time to get myself in a stable condition. It only made sense that I'd be very tired.

The best thing about Black Death was the fact that generally it had fewer crew mates than any other Pirate Admiral's ship would have, because the Captain decreed for several rooms to be left for her female "guests". As a result, it made it possible for me to sleep so comfortably this afternoon.

Deciding not to delay any more, I fell on the rug present in the cabin, and fell asleep.

...

When I woke up, I quickly pulled out the pocket watch out of my shirt's pocket, and checked the time. It was 7:10 in the evening. It was barely about 20 minutes before the dinner time on the ship.

Getting up, I dusted myself off, and wore my rough, grey coat that was the local fashion on Rorsted Archipelago. Ever since I had consumed the potion, my senses had become near super human. Never before had I found my eyesight so effective that I could see deep details in the polishing of the room's door wood.

Besides that, I discovered that I had gained powers that belonged to a Sequence 9 Assassin of the pathway.

I could change a part of my body's structure for a short amount of time. I could obtain feather-like lightness. Even if I were to jump from a high place in such form, I wouldn't be harmed.

There was also hawk like vision which allowed me to see through darkness and distance in detail. It also gave me the ability to hide in the shadows.

Beyond all these was the signature ability of the Assassin, to concentrate all my strength into a single strike. The extreme improvement to my physical body, its senses, instincts and strength, all had increased.

I don't believe I would be too bad compared to a Clown, who had immense control on their bodies, or a Hunter, who had exceptional physical strength.

Shaking my head, I left the room, and went out on the deck to look around, and see what was going on.

On the deck was a table and two chairs arranged, and each of them was occupied by one beautiful lady after the other.

On one of the chairs was a red-headed beauty wearing a simple but modest dress, while on the other was our captain, the Ailment Tracy.

Indeed, she was as stunning looking as ever. Even though she was sitting in front of another beautiful woman, whom I guessed to be Helen, her charm really did overpower anything else in the surroundings.
