*This chapter got a lot darker then I originally intended, but once I started with the idea, i couldn't slow down. It sets up some awkward meetings in the future. Its also setting up how I wanna have 'anchor' characters. Not that people can't die, but they always exist.*
-J-000 log #1
"This is Dr. Frost, reporting a disturbing development with supply. A large amount of compound V seems to have gone down from 200 GALLONS to 130 gallons. We have our guards cracking it open as we speak, as there seems to be no outside tampering to speak of at this time. If someone from inside this lab is stealing from us then they have to be dumber than-" Her tirade was interrupted when just off screen, a guard shouted in alarm.
A faint "What the hell..." could be heard from another guard. Dr. Frost was seen rushing off screen to investigate the problem. After minutes of silence, she came rushing back into frame, large rubber gloves covered in a blue fluid with a pair of transparent goggles over her eyes and white hair cover on her head.
"Excuse the mess, I've just made a delightful discovery! Apparently, the problem with our supply of compound V was being caused by a man! While usually, this would mean interrogation and subsequent silencing, but he wasn't stealing it per-say... He was absorbing it, or drinking it, or something along those lines.
He's unresponsive at the moment, but we can't be sure if it's from the V, or something else. It's too early to tell. We will have to run tests before coming to any conclusions. This is Dr. Caitlin Frost, signing off."
-J-000 log #2
"This is Dr. Caitlin Frost, updating for subject J-000. This is log #2, as log #1 has been reserved for the discovery of the subject. As it turns out, J-000 seems to go by Jace Queen, completely unrelated to Queen consolidated, who have lost both their CEO and his son in an unfortunate disagreement with a super. We're just lucky Madelyn was able to spin it to our advantage as an assassination.
That's not the point though. As there is no record of him anywhere, we have zero reason to be concerned about a missing person's report and search party. It's like he just appeared in that vat from nowhere. Which is all we can go off of considering the current information.
From the vat's decrease in V levels from 130 G down to 120 G over this month, we calculated that he is steadily absorbing it and has been for the past 8 months at a steady rate of 10 G per month." At this last part, she looked frustrated. "How could we go 8 months with this going completely under our radar? I get that he was IN the vat, and its tamper proof seal was unbroken, but this is ridiculous. Because of this large oversight, I've put in a note to the higher ups to weigh all things in storage at this facility at least once a month.
We want to keep this project a secret until we can get solid results. It's already looking promising too! When we took his blood sample, we found that his white blood cells are not fighting the V at all. In fact, it seems like his white blood cells are merging with the V! We have tried to introduce foreign bacteria to the blood, things like the common cold, and even some poisons! His blood seems to shrug off the small ones like they aren't even present." She seems to drift off, as if imagining the possibilities.
"I have to get a hold of some of the bigger guns... Anyways, this is Dr. Frost, signing off. For now."
-J-000 #8
"Hello again, it's Dr. Frost, with J-000 log #8 update. We've had to change our method for extracting the subject's blood, every time we use needle's now, they bend.
We thought the secret to the subject surviving the amount of V exposer it was under was its blood. As it turns out, it was all of it!! HAHA!" She laughs almost manically. A strange light in her eye as if it was her own work that made this happen. "We already figured out that it's blood could bulldoze through everything we could get our hands on.
Animal testing is starting soon to figure out what we can do with that, but what of its skin cells? We have to collect enough before it's body adapts to what we are cutting it with... maybe an arm? If we do that, then we can get bone samples as well.... Does the body adapt on its own? Or does every cell act independently of the brain's demands?... Should we be doing deeper MRI and brain scans?... What about brain tissue itself? Should we hold off on it's brain until the brain scans come back?... SEMEN!!" She finishes, nearly hysterical by now.
The ideas of what she could do with this subject seeming to make her drift off with indifference to the camera in front of her. "I have to go; we have too much great work to do. Too much potential with this subject to stop now for an update. Dr. Frost signing off.
-J-000 #9
"Caitlyn Frost here. J-000 log #9 I've been busy this last year, that was the reason for the late update." She seemed to look towards the vat, a new addition seeming to be the duct taped drawing with the words Jay Jay the ghost scribbled on it.
"It felt weird sitting in this depressing lab with no color, so I grabbed the drawing we collected from his personal effects. I don't know why he shoved this in his wallet, but it makes me feel a little closer to him." She says, as she looks down at a new photo frame on her desk. One with a man that looks suspiciously like a less blue and bloated version of the man in the vat. Folded to cut out the other person from the frame.
"The animals keep going into a frenzied state after we introduce the blood cells to them. The skin cells seem to calm them down a bit. Luckly, his arm grew back, taking a hefty amount of the V with it. We've since had to refill the vat with more V. The problem with the animal trails is that after exposer, it sets them on a completely different evolutionary track. Subjects J-001 through J-032 grew at an accelerated rate, and past their specie's expected maturity size by 35%. They seek anything else with V exposer like bloodhounds, eating them to sustain themselves. Without it, they deteriorate at a rapid pace. They show no hostility towards baseline humans with no V.
Further tests should show if this is viable for human testing." She said all this without looking away from the photo frame. Almost as if she was talking to the man in the photo instead of the camera. As she looks back with a soft smile on her face, she ends with an all too gentle "Dr. Frost, signing off."
-J-000 #14
"This is Dr. Frost. J-000 log #14. We have had to discontinue human testing for now. Too many subjects die within the first 24 hours.
I think the problem isn't that there's no way to mix it, but the higher ups won't let me use our supers for the experiments. Their 'too valuable to be sacrificed'. They just don't understand the direction Jay's cells take.
They adapt, they reform on a fundamental level, they regenerate when exposed to something beyond original adaptation failed.
Working with baseline humans is too similar in structure to his own DNA and yet too weak to withstand full adaptation. Animals only work because they are so far from his own DNA structure that it slows down until it can process the animal's changes in a way it can understand, they fail when they recognize that there's not enough fuel from their new evolutionary path to sustain then. With a super, we can fully realize Jay's potential to evolve supers further beyond the evolutionary chain. His DNA would change theirs without blowing through their cells."
She stands up from her chair, walking over and putting a longing hand on Jace's vat. "I just need one subject and I could show the world Jay's genetic perfection... Just one..." As she finishes her statement, she spins around stiffly. Abruptly speed walking over to the camera and shutting it off.
-J-000 log #16
"This is Dr. Wells, after review of subject J-000's log #15, the scientific board has decided to suspend Dr. Frost and take her off of this project. Her blatant missus of company resources has shown us that further contact with the subject is unwise. It was clear that the subject had almost woken up from her lack of decoram and...
DECENCY
The choice to redact log #15 was an obvious one, not much more then porn in it anyways.
She should have never taken the subject out of its tube. Future updates will continue at a later date."
*As I said, this chapter is a lot darker. This won't be an overly dark story, but I figured since this is 'The Boys', I could afford to dig into the darker aspects a little. Hit me with a review. I dunno how to get better without them. Sorry on no dates on the journal entries. They were unnecessary... I think. I was just too lazy to go look up the actual date before the lab breakin by the boys, then subtract 5 years and go through dates. Just know that it's supposed to take place over the 5 years he's in a coma. There's only 2 more entries that I'm gonna put in, but that's for the next chapter if I don't have to rewrite this one.*
