She kept running.
Barefoot. Breathless. Bleeding.
The world around her blurred into trees, thorns, and shadows.
Her heartbeat drummed in her ears louder than the chaos behind her.
The men were still chasing her-
shouting, laughing, hunting.
She didn't dare scream.
Not yet.
She stumbled behind a tree, back scraping the bark, lungs on fire.
Her hand clutched the sharp letter opener she had snatched from the table just before she ran.
It wasn't much-
but it was something.
Her last hope buzzed in her pocket.
Her phone with a dying battery.
Hands shaking, she turned it on.
And then-
Location: ON.
That was all it would take.
She knew it.
He'd find her.
Because he always did.
Even if the world collapsed between them-he'd come.
But what if… this time… he didn't know where she was?
Didn't know how close death was breathing down her neck?
Her thumb hovered over the call button, one second from dialing-
when she heard it.
"THERE SHE IS!"
The voice cut through the silence like a blade.
Rough. Loud. Dripping with triumph.
Branches snapped.
Boots pounded the dirt.
Her breath caught.
Her legs moved on instinct.
But in her mind…
One name.
Just one name echoed like a scream.
His.
And far away-
a phone lit up.
And with it…
hell broke loose.
