Chapter 2 - 002 One Year Later

Adrian's POV:

It has been a year since I've been reincarnated…a year since I lost my old parents. Not a day had passed where I hadn't thought about them, where I hadn't cried for them.

I will not forget them. Ever!

But at some point I knew I had to let go…of them. It would be an injustice to my new parents if I didn't. No matter how painful it is. Especially my new mother, who loved me more than anything. She didn't leave me alone for a moment for the first six months. Perhaps if I ever moved on, it would be solely because of her.

My new mother's a very beautiful woman, a kind and loving one too. Her name was Selena, and from what I could gather, she's a painter—a very successful one. I'm still not sure of my father's name; I haven't seen my mother calling him by his name, nor the servants in our house. He seemed to be a busy man since he only visits us once every couple of days. I wonder what he does for a living.

We are wealthy… I don't know by how much, but I have seen at least six servants wearing maid uniforms helping my mother clean me over the months. They are good people, always trying to play with me whenever my mother lets them. Always with a bright smile and comments about how cute I was and how I looked just like my mother.

And it seems to be true as well. I've inherited most of my traits from my mother, her silver-blonde hair and pale white skin, and my ocean blue eyes from my father.

Anyways, life is… boring as a baby, not much to do, which meant a lot of time to think. Think about my past life and also my future. But mostly, it was about my old parents.

… I can't help it. I don't understand how the protagonists in all those reincarnation and transmigration novels just seem to brush off their connection with their old parents just like that. I couldn't.

And every time I think about them, my eyes moisten, just like now, and I cry.

WAAAAH

I-I miss you, Mom, Dad… I miss you a lot…

Third person POV:

Adrian's cries echoed in the room, his small face turning beet red while tears streamed down his cheeks.

But his cries seemed to have startled the people in the house, as several footsteps rushed towards his room.

"Honey, are you okay?" A woman exclaimed in worry as she entered the room in a hurry, panting. Her silver-blonde hair was a mess, while dots of paint were scattered across her white dress.

Selena rushed towards her son, her heart aching at his cries, "Oh baby, don't cry, Mother's here!" She took him in her arms, embracing him tightly as she patted his back. "It's okay, baby. Mommy's here!"

WAAAH

But his cries didn't stop.

Several other footsteps arrived at the door, causing Selena to turn around. It was the maids, each wearing the same worried expression as her.

"Mary, he's not stopping…" Selena whispered to the one among them. Her heart ached every time he cried. At first, she thought he was hungry, but he would always reject her and would cry nonstop. Then she worried he might be sick, but no doctor could ever find what's wrong with him.

She had tried everything, but none could find what was happening. He would start crying out of nowhere and would cry until his tears dried before he fell asleep from exhaustion.

"It's okay, it's okay, honey. Mommy's here, Mommy's here…" Selena whispered like a broken record, her voice cracking with sorrow. No mother liked to see her child cry, worse not knowing why he is crying.

She paced around the room, patting his back while trying to soothe him. The maids watched this while feeling a pang in their hearts. They wanted to help but didn't know how.

By now Selena had left the room and was currently striding in the hallway while trying to make Adrian stop crying. She tried giving him some toys and showing him her paintings, which seemed to have worked a few times, but failed. She even took him outside, but nothing worked.

"P-Please, baby. Stop crying. Mommy can't see you cry… "I'm sorry," she cried. She didn't know what to do, and every minute that had passed was like a knife stabbing at her chest. Her body shivered as tears left her eyes, falling on Adrian as she tightly embraced him.

And perhaps sensing her tears in his face, Adrian's cries gradually came to a stop. His reddened face turned to his mother, who was still crying.

He could feel her hands trembling against his back. And he could also feel it—her desperation.

His eyes quivered as tears threatened to fall down, but Adrian clenched his small fists, barely holding them in. It took a moment for him to finally realize how pitiful his mother looked. And once more, he cried. Not for his old parents, but for her, his mother.

His tiny arms wrapped around Selena's neck. His silent tears, flowing against her skin, 'I-I was blind…' he mumbled inwardly. He was blind. Whenever he cried, he never stopped to look at her. He was drowned in his own suffering to realize his mother, too, was suffering by seeing him cry. And now that he had stopped to look, it broke him.

"I-I'm swawwy, Mwamma….!" He broke through his cries as he tightened his hug.

"I'm swawwy!"

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry, I couldn't keep my promise. I know I said I write one chapter a day and I have no excuses. I plan to make up for it tomorrow.

Also, this chapter took a while for me to write. I couldn't decide how I should proceed since the first chapter was light and sarcastic. But I decided to write this emotionally heavy one. I thought that if Kane just moved on like nothing happened, his relationships wouldn't really matter. Like they wouldn't have any weight to it.

In the next chapter, we will have a time skip, where he moves on, still remembering his old parents, but not stuck to them (the wording maybe wrong but you get the point) also, his sarcastic tone would return, slowly.

Anyways, I once again apologise for not sticking to my words. I'll try to make it up tomorrow!
