Chapter 16 - A Glimpse of Green and a Promise of Life

Then, a man suddenly appeared and said to Aretil, "Sir, it's evening. First, we should move your carriage."

Aretil simply said, "Okay," and they started moving toward his house. I watched them go, but my eyes couldn't leave the girl. Her white hair and green eyes were like a magnet, pulling me in. I just stood there, watching her until she vanished from sight.

A few seconds later, I snapped out of my daze. I remembered my friend and our cattle and rushed over. I saw Vivian still sleeping. How can someone sleep so much? I thought to myself. I went to wake him, and we started heading toward our homes.

"Bye, Vivian," I said, but my mind was still on the girl I'd seen.

As I entered my house, I saw my father looking happy, while my mom sat in a chair, her face red. I walked over to my father, my face full of worry. "What happened, Father? Why is Mom's face red?"

They both looked at me, their eyes bright with hope. Just then, our old granny came from the kitchen, holding a bowl of hot soup. "Oh, Rudra, you're back."

"Granny, what happened to Mom?" I asked urgently.

My father, Reyand, interrupted with a happy smile. "Oh, dear, you're going to be a big brother!"

My world seemed to stop for a moment. Then, I jumped with joy, repeating, "I'm going to be a big brother! I'm going to be a big brother! Where is he?" I asked my father.

He pointed to my mom's stomach. "He's in her stomach."

I suddenly felt anxious. "Mother, why is he in your stomach?"

She smiled. "My sweet boy, he will live in my stomach for nine months, and then he'll come into the world to see you."

"Nine months is too long!" I cried out.

Everyone laughed at my desperation. My mom lifted me into her lap and held me close. "Oh, my baby, you are so beautiful. Nothing in this world compares to your pure heart."

My father, Reyand, put a hand on my shoulder. "Boy, you need to become strong to protect both your mother and the new baby."

I thumped my chest. "I will, Father!"

We all ate dinner together, and later, I went to sleep, my mind filled with thoughts of a new sibling and a girl with striking green eyes.
