Chapter 72 - CHAPTER 72:A TEST OF TRUST

The next day, the campus buzzed with the usual energy—students rushing to classes, laughing in groups, and chattering about assignments. Racheal walked alongside Declan, the morning sun casting a warm glow over them. She felt calm, confident, and even a little excited, as though yesterday's intimate moments had lifted a weight she didn't realize she'd been carrying.

But peace rarely lasts long on campus.

As they approached the courtyard, a group of students had gathered, their whispers carrying across the open space. Margaret stood at the center, arms crossed, a sly smile playing on her lips.

"Well, well," she called out, loud enough for several people to hear. "Look who's walking around like they own the place."

Racheal's stomach tightened, and Declan subtly shifted closer, his presence reassuring.

"You didn't hear about the little challenge happening today?" Margaret continued, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Seems like our Racheal here will have to participate. Wouldn't want to chicken out, would we?"

Racheal frowned, confused. "Challenge?"

Before she could protest, a student stepped forward, holding a stack of papers. "It's a quiz competition. Teams of two. Declan, you're automatically paired with Racheal. That's how the system assigned it."

Margaret's grin widened. "Perfect! Let's see how well you two really work together. Or will you crumble under pressure?"

Declan's hand brushed against Racheal's, subtle but grounding. "Ignore her," he said softly, leaning in just enough that she could hear. "We've got this. Trust me."

Racheal swallowed hard, nodding. She could feel her nerves rising, but his calm confidence was contagious.

The competition began, and the questions ranged from tricky riddles to problem-solving scenarios. At first, Racheal's mind raced, her thoughts scattered. But Declan guided her, whispering hints, and they began to synchronize effortlessly.

"Good thinking," he murmured after she solved a particularly difficult puzzle.

Racheal smiled, a warmth spreading in her chest. "We're actually… working well together."

Declan smirked. "I told you. Trust."

Margaret watched from a distance, her smirk fading slightly as Racheal and Declan breezed through the challenges with surprising ease. She could no longer mock them—it was clear they were a strong pair.

By the end of the competition, Racheal's heart raced with excitement and relief. They had won—not by chance, but by working together, trusting one another, and letting go of the distractions around them.

As they walked back through the courtyard, Declan's fingers brushed against hers again. "See? Nothing can shake us if we stick together," he said softly.

Racheal nodded, a genuine smile on her face. "Yeah… nothing."

The whispers of the crowd seemed distant now, insignificant. With Declan by her side, she realized that trust, courage, and connection mattered far more than gossip or judgment.

And for the first time in a long while, she truly believed she could face whatever came next together.
