Chapter 124 - Chapter 125: Night Raid, the Power of a Demigod

Chapter 125: Night Raid, the Power of a Demigod

Around eleven at night.

In his demigod state, Xi Nian sat motionless at the bedside, serving as a human cushion. The green-haired girl Lorna lay sprawled across his chest like an oversized doll, her steady, gentle breathing rising and falling in sleep.

The little Flerken cub, Xiao Huang, was curled under the blanket snoring softly. That greedy eater and sleepyhead lived up to both names, and Xi Nian was used to it by now.

On the desk, the colorful starfish Jarro floated quietly in its glass jar, basking in the silver moonlight streaming through the window, lost in memories of its long wanderings across the stars.

Outside the car wash, noises occasionally stirred, but inside this small room, all was serene and calm.

"Someone's coming again," Jarro suddenly warned, its gemlike eye glowing as it sent a psychic thought to Xi Nian.

Xi Nian opened his eyes, his sharp gaze landing on the door. His brows furrowed slightly.

This time, he hadn't heard footsteps from the hallway.

Whoever it was, they were deliberately moving quietly.

Not a friendly visitor.

"Male, about thirty-five, bald, tall," Jarro continued. "Strange… his energy and mind are extremely unstable."

At the same moment, when the intruder was just three meters from the door, Xi Nian finally caught the faintest sound of movement.

Light leaking through the crack beneath the locked door was suddenly blocked.

Hiss!

Under Xi Nian's vigilant eyes, the center of the wooden door began to smoke, glowing red from the heat outside. The next moment, flames erupted as the door ignited from the middle!

With fire raging before him, Xi Nian's eyes burned not with fear, but with cold fury. His voice was calm, stripped of emotion: "Jarro. Is he carrying a weapon? A flamethrower?"

"No. He has no weapon at all."

Even as Jarro's doubtful voice echoed, the door burst apart. Through the blaze, a huge bald man charged in, completely unbothered by the flames and heat, scattering burning splinters as he stormed into the room!

Xi Nian looked up. The intruder matched Jarro's description perfectly.

Except—

The bald man's eyes blazed red like fire. His bare arms and hands were semi-transparent, with molten blood flowing through his veins like lava. His entire body radiated a scorching temperature no normal human could survive, the heat wind surging around him as he entered Lorna's room.

His face twisted into a monstrous snarl. When he saw Xi Nian holding Lorna on the bed, a flicker of confusion crossed his expression—but in the very next second, he hurled himself at them without hesitation!

Perhaps because she was in Xi Nian's arms, Lorna lay defenseless, wholly trusting him to protect her.

The bald man's whole torso ignited, his shirt burning away as his chest and abdomen glowed with molten heat. He was half a human torch, charging forward with inhuman speed. At such close range, any ordinary person would have been caught instantly.

Too bad.

Xi Nian was no ordinary person. He was a demigod.

In a flash, Xi Nian rose with Lorna in his arms and snapped out a devastating kick with his right leg.

Boom!

The bald man flew backward, smashing through the flaming door remains, shattering the railing in the third-floor corridor, and plummeting down onto a jeep parked below.

The jeep's roof crumpled inward, its windows exploded in shards, the deafening crash triggering car alarms throughout the lot!

"What happened?!"

"An attack?!"

The crash jolted everyone in the car wash awake, no matter if they were asleep or not.

"My car!!"

A tattooed youth burst through the main gate, only to scream when he saw his jeep wrecked, smoke billowing from the ruins.

But his cry died in his throat.

He froze, eyes wide in horror, as the bald man climbed out from the crushed jeep roof—his body glowing red-hot, steam hissing from his flesh like a demon crawling up from hell.

"What the hell is that?!" All around, men inhaled sharply, terror gripping them.

Back in the third-floor room—

"What… happened?" Lorna stirred weakly awake, her voice soft and hazy.

"It's fine. I'll handle it. Be right back." Xi Nian brushed her damp forehead, comforting her back to sleep and gently laid her back on the bed.

He gave a sharp command: "Jarro. Xiao Huang. Protect her. No one enters this room but me."

"Understood," Jarro replied, sending a firm psychic wave.

Xiao Huang leapt beside Lorna, her small body like a guardian spirit, her eyes glowing an eerie green.

Xi Nian glanced at his foot. The canvas shoe he'd worn was half-melted, flames licking its cloth.

So hot…

He kicked off both shoes, stepping barefoot to the doorway. More than twenty eyes watched in stunned silence as he strode out and leapt directly from the third-floor balcony.

Crash!

From ten meters up, he landed with no pause, the ground cracking beneath him. His silver hair whipped wildly, his eyes cold as he faced the fiery intruder.

"You dare come for my boss with just this?"

Xi Nian's cap and mask hid his face, leaving only his blazing eyes visible as he stared down the glowing bald man.

The man's chest bore a deep footprint from Xi Nian's kick, but before their eyes, the wound was knitting itself back together, healing rapidly.

The bald man let out a furious roar, leaping from the jeep wreck and charging again. His fist, blazing with heat thousands of degrees high, swung toward Xi Nian.

Xi Nian didn't move. He calmly threw his own punch.

Their fists collided.

The bald man's eyes went wide with disbelief as his entire right arm shattered apart, blood and molten flesh exploding like lava and raining down across the wrecked jeep.

Xi Nian shook his head.

Against Kryptonians or Doomsday, a demigod's body fell short. But that didn't mean just anyone could match him.

With a sweep of his hand, Xi Nian summoned the golden Lasso of Truth, binding the one-armed attacker tight.

"Tell me. What's your purpose?"

Under the lasso's power, the bald man blurted out: "Even if I die, I must kill the target—Lorna."

"What? Our boss?!" the onlookers gasped.

So he was an outsider, sent by another faction.

Xi Nian pressed on: "Who's behind you?"

"Killian…"

But before he could finish, his face twisted in agony. His skin turned translucent, inner heat spiking higher and higher as his body began to swell.

Xi Nian's instincts screamed. He yanked the lasso and hurled the man skyward.

The intruder slammed into the roof of the car wash—then exploded like a bomb. His blazing body disintegrated into ash, vanishing as the explosion's heat punched through the metal roof and melted it in seconds.
