I found Xan curled up in the fetal position on the floor. I lifted her up and put her on the bed. She fitted perfectly in my arms, which I wrapped around her.
"I promise you I had nothing to do with it. I made it clear to Luca that I didn't want to break our fated mate bond," I said against her hair. I was hoping that being here with her would ease her pain. A pain I didn't understand as deeply as she was feeling. At first, I thought me being near her and holding her wasn't helping, but soon her crying stopped. She fell asleep. I felt relieved. I woke up later, but Xan was no longer next to me on the bed. I sat up. "Xan?" I called out. My eyes could not help but fall on the blood stain where she had lain earlier.
It dawned on me that she lost the baby. The pain of loss she felt washed over me as I now felt that same loss. 'I am going to kill Luca,' I silently vowed, getting off the bed.
"Xan?" I called out again as I walked towards the living room.
