During the 13th century, Japanese Wako pirates frequently raided the south-eastern coast of China. The local villagers and defense forces were no match for these highly trained Wako pirates. Some of these Wako pirates were Ronin samurai. That is samurai who lost their Master, without support, poor, desolate and desperate. They joined the Wako pirates pillage, kill, rape and burn.
There was one Wako pirate boy who did not like the killings. He was coaxed into joining the Wako pirate gang due to extreme poverty at home. The other Wako pirates despised the Wako boy. They say he is too soft.
One day, the Wako pirates attacked and raided a village. The villagers ran into a sugarcane plantation. They could heard the Wako pirates pillaging, killing and burning. The villagers were terrified. The head of the villagers gathered a few men, collected dried sugarcane stalks and burned them. The burning created a cracking sounds that resembled gun shots. As the sounds grew louder, the Wako pirates thought they have no match for these "guns" and retreated back to the sea. The villagers survived and saved. That day was the 9th day of the first month in the lunar calendar. This is an important day for the southeast Chinese. Even up to today, Chinese in southeastern China and Southeast Asia will remember this day by offerings including sugarcane stalks to thank and celebrate that they survived that ominous day.
The Wako pirates retreated back to the sea. They blamed the Wako boy for leaking their presence. They wanted to throw the Wako boy into the seas. At this moment, one of the Wako gang leader stepped forward and stopped them. He later took in the Wako and kept him closely by his sides.
The Wako pirates waited at a uninhabited island and waited for the next chance to strike again. As they waited the Wako pirates drank, sang and danced. The Wako gang leader walked into the forest with the Wako boy following closely by his side. The came to a stream. It was mid Summer and the weather was hot and humid. The gang leader removed his clothes and walked naked into the stream to bathe. The Wako boy also undress and followed in. The Wako boy stood behind the Wako gang leader and help cleaned and rubbed his back. He then massaged the shoulders, arms and body. The Wako gang leader had cuts and wounds all over his body. As the Wako boy massaged the front, he felt the Wako gang leader's physical reaction. He understood the Wako pirates were away for long time and have no sex. He felt he should do the favour as the Wako gang leader had saved him. He massaged harder and lower. The Wako gang leader eventually could not control himself, turned the Wako boy around and ride on him. The Wako boy was 18 and have not experienced something like this. However, he felt he is the servant and should submit to the Wako gang leader. After this night, they became closer together. The other Wako gangs laughed and made fun of the Wako boy. The Wako boy was not at all affected. He knew he owed his life to the Wako gang leader.
