Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Long Wait

It has been three days since I began observing and experiencing the boy's and the man's imprisonment in the jail through the boy's eyes. During these days, I've learned that no one feeds the boy except for his father, who is taken out of the cell by the guards every morning and brought back latten at night. Each time, he returns with a small portion of bread, which he gives to his son.

It's likely that their family committed some offense against the king of this kingdom.

Tonight, the man wasn't brought back to the cell.

I started feeling the boy's anxiety and concern for his father. The night dragged on. The boy's worry kept growing until he finally decided to look for his father. He walked up to the door and began peeking through the small gap in the door, which he could barely reach by standing on his toes.

"Excuse me, does anyone know where my dad is?" the boy asked weakly, pleading for help.

"Please, help me," the boy begged again, desperately pleading for help.

"Please..." he whispered one last time, quietly asking for someone's help. The boy started slowly slid down to the ground while his hands was resting against the door. Tears began to stream endlessly from his eyes. I can feel his pain and deep loneliness — the fear of losing the last precious person he has left.

The boy's sadness immediately turned into hysterical crying. He began pounding his fists against the wooden door, screaming out his inner pain in desperation until he had no strength left.

"Ahhhhh!!"

I listened to and lived through his pain for an hour — maybe even longer. I tried hopelessly to find a way to help him, tried to speak, to move, but all efforts were in vain. The boy couldn't hear me or feel me at all.

Suddenly, both the boy and I heard footsteps in the corridor, drawing closer to us. Someone unlocked the door and slowly began to open it. A wave of joy swept over the boy — his father was finally coming back.

"Dad!!" he shouted eagerly, overwhelmed with happiness.

The door opened, but on the other side stood only a guard.

"Get out," he said.
