Chapter 39 - Plea Granted

"...."

Silence permeated the air as Luck's question resounded across the room. The silence was so deep that it penetrated the deep folds of Luke's meditation, causing his eyes to shoot open.

He glanced at his family. He could immediately tell something was wrong, causing a frown born of confusion to paint his features.

Even with that, the silence still ensued as Dan and Vera shared a glance

""Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah""

Their sudden laughter cut through the quiet like a dagger, leaving the twins to jump back in fear that their parents might have gone mad.

(Maybe I should have asked them when they had rested.) Luck said internally as he took one cautious step at a time towards the door.

If a person with the power to destroy cities with a single wave had suddenly gone out of their senses, the only thing left to do was escape.

Or hide, anything to ensure your survival, resting in the hands of an unstable soul.

(Now we have two.) Luck lamented in his heart at his current predicament. What could low awakeners like themselves do to those who stood at the pinnacle of mortals?

"Where are you guys going?" Vera said in between laughs as she wiped a tear from her eye.

Luck's body automatically stiffened, making Vera frown. She could sense the fear around him as she looked into his eyes.

"Hey, Dan, quit laughing for a sec. These brats of ours thought we'd gone mad?!"

The laughter ended abruptly. "So you think we're mad, eh? Well then, you can ask someone else to send you two Lysarrieth."

"After all, as mad people, we don't have the ability or the power to decide for you ." Vera added mockingly as she turned to leave."

"Wait!"

*Whoosh*

Luck flickered into sight beside Vera, holding her dress desperately. "Of course you can't be mad! Two fantastic and legendary individuals, as yourselves couldn't fall prey to such a paltry condition.

"..."

Vera was stunned speechless. Not because of her son's shamelessness. No, she was already used to that. What shocked her was the speed Luck used to reach her.

Luck, what rank are you?"

"Echo. Why?" Luck responded, slightly confused.

Another shock registered in their brains. As powerhouses of their caliber, they quickly regained their composure, but they couldn't stop staring at Luck as if he were a different species altogether.

Vera exhaled a breath. "First of all, weren't you in the lower tier of Meta rank yesterday?"

Luck nodded his head, making him take a sharp intake of breath.

(We've given birth to a monster.) They both thought. Even if he was a low-awakener who were known for that speedy advancement to the next stages, this was simply too fast.

With the speed he's going, he might reach the threshold to become a Mid-awakener before the end of two weeks!"

(We need to make sure that his foundation can take such pace) Vera said internally as she glanced at her husband.

Her husband waved her off. (It is precisely because of this that they're going to Lysarrieth; to strengthen their foundations."

Vera sighed after listening to her husband. Today, she appreciated having the power of a Saint. Because of this, they could safely have this discussion away from the children.

She glanced at her son, who was still holding onto her clothes. "Secondly, that's not the speed of an Echo rank, and why did I sense gravity mana from you when you ran here?"

"Oh," Luck voiced out in understanding as he proceeded to narrate how his Shadow element had evolved to Darkness, giving him affinity to the four elements under the umbrella.

"Maybe I should enter a coma too," Luke muttered, earning a glare from Vera.

She sighed in resignation as she eyed her son. "Stand up, Luck, you guys are going to Lysarrieth."

Luck's eyes shone like gemstones as he shot into his mother's arms, making her chuckle. She sometimes forgot her son was still fourteen years old.

Luck's body suddenly turned rigid, making her look down to see her son eyeing her with a suspicious gaze. "What's the catch?"

"Nothing at all," she replied casually. Its lightness did nothing to appease Luck.

"Can our friends come too?" Luke voiced out innocently, having been silent for the time being.

"I'm sure it will be an honor for the children of Clearwater to attend the best academy in the Southern Continent of the Human Domain, if not...."

"There are other ways." Vera completed her husband's work, making her children shiver due to the dark tone used. "But more importantly, there's now a catch."

Luck clicked his tongue as he glared at his brother. "Lay it on us."

Vera smiled sweetly in response, "You lots are taking the long route, you will pay for no transportation, and you must get there within a week to the entrance exam.
