Chapter 6 - Chapter 5 - Rumours

Around the campfire, new events were always talked about.

"Did you hear? That last group sent here were a bunch of lunatics."

"Lunatics? Were they crazy enough to mess with the border guards? Are they strong?"

"Weak as a stick! I saw them approach the gate making all sorts of weird sounds. If it weren't for their human bodies, I'd suspect they were filthy beasts in disguise."

"They could still be slaves sent in here by their filthy masters. You remember the last time that happened, half the camp was in ruin."

Jero, who was also within the crowd, couldn't help but take interest in this gossip. Lunatics? Slaves? He thought it was an opportunity to get inside the walls. It's as his teacher always scolded him about, 'a good deed goes a long way.'

As the gossip continued, Jero inserted himself into the conversation.

"I heard you talking about some crazy people in these camps. You got their faces?"

Looking at Jero's face, the group of gossipers flinched slightly. Then one of them pointed straight at Jero, another stood up with a frown on their face, and the rest started shuffling away.

"It's one of those lunatics!"

"Fuck off you freak."

The sudden hostility and disrespect startled Jero. Then he cursed.

"The fuck you barking at? Were you taught by a fucking beast? Bark this, bark that. Why don't you shut that shithole you call a mouth. It fucking stinks from all that feral shit between your teeth."

Before they could react to Jero's outburst, he jumped and drop kicked the guy that told him to fuck off. Then he grabbed the finger pointed at him and bent it backwards. One was down while the other screamed. Prana hastily circulated around their bodies as they struggled to heal their injuries. Jero smirked as knocking down assholes was his hobby.

The sudden commotion had other refugees crowd around them. They didn't care about who was fighting nor the cause of this brawl. This was just an entertaining show in their mundane lives as they waited outside the walls.

When Jero was going to finish his assault, a guard quickly intervened and slammed Jero to the ground. Other guards quickly followed to clear the crowd as a few stayed to give clarity on the chain of events.

To the guards, it was revealed that Jero ambushed the victims after calling them slaves. Multiple accounts confirmed this, leading to a strict verdict for Jero.

Isolation and labour.

Jata Kingdom was connected to a lake. It was a source of various commodities which Jero would spend his time harvesting. For someone as weak as Jero, it was similar to a death sentence. He would have to struggle desperately to survive.

Powerless, Jero closed his eyes with regret, unwilling to see his reflection in other people's eyes. His impulsiveness seems to have wrecked his chances of entering the kingdom.
