Chapter 242 - Chapter 242: Ron's Reasoning

Chapter 242: Ron's Reasoning

The robber leader's pupils contracted sharply. Ron knew he'd hit a nerve from that reaction. However, before continuing, he needed to further intimidate this arrogant criminal. Of course, not with his usual physical intimidation. The most effective way to deal with such a highly intelligent criminal who was extremely proud of his intellect was, naturally, to attack him mentally.

"I heard that you also had all the hostages change into the same clothing as you?" Ron asked rhetorically. "If I'm not mistaken, you must be planning to blend your people in with the hostages and escape together during the evacuation, right?"

The robber leader's entire body trembled visibly. If it weren't for the mask, Ron would definitely have seen the shock on his face.

But it didn't matter. His silent reaction only confirmed Ron's theory.

"Hahaha, I nailed it, didn't I? What a classic move—only that muscle-bound moron outside wouldn't see it coming," Ron laughed: "But what makes me more curious is, how do you plan to get your prize out? You can't make all this noise just to mess with law enforcement, right?"

One of the robber's men beside him snorted smugly: "Since you're so smart, take your best shot."

"Since you put it that way, then I'll take a crack at it?" Ron smirked and began his deduction: "Since your original plan was to slip in among the hostages and walk away, then I'm guessing cash was never really an option, because you can't smuggle it out, right?"

"Bullshit!" The robber's subordinate objected bluntly.

Ron didn't flinch: "So, what you're after should be something that's easy to carry, or even unnoticeable, so that would be..."

Seeing the increasingly confident looks in the eyes of the three robbers, Ron suddenly had a revelation: "No, wait—no matter what it is, as long as it belongs to the bank, you can't get it out, because you'll be searched on your way out, and then your cover will be blown!

So, you must have another angle, right?"

"Of course, our boss is..."

"Shut up!" The subordinate wanted to brag, but was immediately silenced by the leader. Ron flashed a knowing smile and continued his reasoning:

"So, you only have two options left. The first is that there's some unknown escape tunnel in this bank that leads to your exit route, but I've seen the bank's architectural blueprints, and that's impossible;

so, there's only one possibility remaining—you're going to leave at least one person behind in the bank with whatever you're after until this whole thing blows over, and then walk out of the bank openly as a regular customer..."

Ron pointed his finger at the leader: "Am I right?"

"Click!"

Ron's deduction was met with the sound of a rifle being cocked. Arthur was about to spring into action when Ron gently pressed his shoulder and asked mockingly, "What? Did I hit the bullseye? Planning to silence me?"

He grabbed the AK rifle from the busty female robber he'd been toying with and pressed it against his own chest. "But are you sure you can kill someone with a toy gun?"

"If you want to kill someone, use this." Ron suddenly diverted the busty female robber's attention, snatched her weapon, and pulled her into his arms. In the blink of an eye, he pressed a .44 Magnum, which he had produced from nowhere, against her temple.

In that same instant, Ron also discretely squeezed her ample, soft curves, causing her to gasp. The other robber screamed, "Let her go!"

Simultaneously, Arthur quickly drew his Glock and pressed it against the head of the screaming robber, instantly turning the tables.

"So? Do you think I'm in a position to negotiate with you now, my dear criminal?"

The robber leader's expression darkened. "Okay, you win. What do you want? Let me be clear: the maximum share of the diamonds in the bank vault is fifty percent."

"I'm not interested in overpriced rocks pushed by De Beers marketing," Ron said, gently kissing the woman on the cheek and pushing her back toward the leader. "But, as I mentioned, I'm very interested in something else in there—like evidence that the bank's board members once worked for certain wartime regimes.

It might be worthless in your hands, but in mine, it can guarantee maximum leverage."

"Why should I believe you're not working with the bank executives?" Ron's words immediately put the robber leader on high alert.

"No particular reason. If you must know, it's probably because I'm the one holding the gun." Ron casually spun the cylinder of his revolver and aimed it at the leader's head. "Or do you want to bet that I'm bluffing?"

Ron swore that if the other party claimed he was betting the gun was empty, he would put a bullet in his brain. "What's the point of being a badass if you can't back it up with action!" This punk definitely couldn't be allowed to live!

The robber leader shoved his hands into his pockets and remained silent for a moment before finally pulling out an envelope. "Alright, you win."

Ron took the envelope with satisfaction and handed it to Arthur beside him. Arthur opened the envelope, examined it in the dim glow of the computer screen, and nodded to Ron. "Package looks legitimate."

"Excellent," Ron said, holstering his pistol and gracefully giving the three robbers a theatrical bow. "Thank you for your cooperation."

"Wait!"

Seeing Ron and Arthur about to leave, the leader finally couldn't help but call them back. "What are you going to do with that evidence?"

"That's not your concern," Ron said, pulling two grappling guns from the backpack he had brought and aiming them out of the office window.

The office was located on the opposite side of the building from where they had entered, facing the three-story Target store across the street. The office was on the fourth floor—just the right height differential for them to zip-line across.

"But there is one thing I can guarantee, and that's that the owner of this evidence will definitely receive the justice he deserves—something far worse than financial ruin. Are you satisfied with that answer?"

After saying that, with a sharp "THWIP!", two grappling hooks flew out and embedded themselves in the roof of the Target across the street. Arthur slid across first and gave Ron an OK signal from the Target rooftop. Ron leaped onto the windowsill and attached his harness to the line: "Well, farewell, gentlemen~"

With that, Ron jumped, and the Dark Knight soared once again over the Los Angeles skyline.

But this time he didn't have the good fortune he'd had earlier. The patrol officers below spotted him first.

"Batman? What the hell! The perp is trying to escape—call for backup!" The patrol sergeant shouted and immediately opened fire on the figure swooping through the air.
