Chapter 7 - cookies and cream

"Do you have Ice-cream in here?" I ask, opening the fridge.

"Knew it" He hands me a freshly out of the freezer cookies and cream ice-cream tub. "Aiiii cookies and cream my favourite!" I clap as I open the tub.

"Anything for you my future Mrs Watson" He smiles as he chops the vegetables.

I narrow my eyes at him, spoon halfway to my mouth. "You're lucky this ice cream is distracting me from throwing hands."

Keifer chuckles, not even looking up from the chopping board. "I'm just telling facts"

The only sound in this boring house is Keifer's knife chopping on the chopping board. I shove another spoonful of cookies and cream into my mouth. Stress + ice cream = best combo.

"Future Mrs. Watson huh?" I mumble with ice cream still in my mouth. Ugh I sound like a hamster. "You're getting too comfortable with that title."

Keifer smirks without even looking at me. "Well, it's true, isn't it? You said yes. Official is official." He finally glances at me with those stupid glinty eyes that make my stomach do cartwheels. HELP. "How about caretaker and watcher?" He smirks as he searches for my reaction. I stare at him. I stare with my you-can't-be-serious stare.

He chuckles and leans back against the counter. "Can't you imagine it? Caretaker Watson and Watcher Watson"

Some part of my wants to love those names, but no way am I giving him that satisfaction. "Dream on, Keifer," I huff, shoving another spoonful of cookies and cream into my mouth.

Keifer tilts his head, watching me too closely. "You're smiling though." His grin widens. "See? You secretly like it."

I roll my eyes so hard they almost fall out. "I'm smiling because this ice cream is good!" I point at the ice cream in my hands.

He leans in a little, lowering his voice. "Maybe it's both. Ice cream… and me."

Don't blush Jay! "Ahh what did I say? Your blushing."

Nope. My brain short-circuits. The way he says it, calm and smooth, like he knows exactly how flustered he's making me—I almost choke on the ice cream.

"Don't flatter yourself," I manage to say, "You're not even close to cookies and cream level."

Keifer laughs softly, shaking his head. "Yeah, I know! I'm just way better" He nudges my hand, his fingers brushing mine for a second. Too short. Too fast. But enough to make my chest feel like it's doing a drum solo.

I look away immediately, hugging the ice cream tub like it's my shield. "Stop saying stuff like that."

He smirks. "Why? Because you'll fall for me even more?"

I snap my gaze back to him, ready with a comeback… but nothing comes out. Just silence. My mouth opens, then closes. Great. I look like a fish.

Keifer notices, of course he does, and his smile softens. "Relax Jay. I'm not teasing this time. I mean it."

….

I accidently drop my ice-cream spoon on the floor. waaa!! It still had my ice cream scoop on it! My poor ice-cream

"Oh shi-"

Before I can even finish, Keifer rests his chin on his hand, with his iconic smug smile.

"Careful, Jay. You remember the rule."

My eyes widen. "W-what rule?" I try to play dumb, but my cheeks are already on fire.

He leans closer, that familiar smirk tugging at his lips. "Our rule. If you say profanity again… I'll kiss you."

My soul literally jumps out of my body. "Y-you can't be serious right now! That was forever ago!" I point at him with my ice cream tub like it can protect me.

Keifer chuckles, stepping closer until I have to tilt my head up to meet his gaze. "I never break my promises, Mrs. Watson. And you just broke the rule."

My heart is pounding so hard I swear he can hear it. "K-Keifer, don't you dare—"

But he's already leaning in, his face inches from mine, eyes locked on me like he's daring me to move. "Don't what? Keep my word?"

My hands grip the tub tighter. "If you kiss me right now, I swear I'll—"

He smirks wider. "Swear again, Jay. Say it. I'm waiting."

OH MY GOD. He's actually evil. My brain is screaming, my stomach is flipping, and my mouth—OF COURSE—betrays me. Why can't you say anything Jay!?

"Fu-fudge—"

Too late.

This guy really needs to hesitate!

I push him away, he barely moves an inch.

"Oii you need to heistate!"

He chuckles, brushing his thumb across my cheek. "See? Worth the wait."

I blink. Once. Twice. Then scream into my hands. "KEIFER WHAT THE ACTUAL—!!"

"Go on!" I smiles. I dig my face in my hands trying to hide the golden blush. "Awe is my Queen blushing?"

I flop onto the couch, covering my face with a pillow. "I hate you. I actually hate you."

Keifer sits at the other end, smug as ever. "You love me."

"Nope. Hate. Pure hate." My voice is muffled, but even I can hear how weak it sounds.

He nudges my leg with his foot. "Then why are you smiling under that pillow?"

I slam the pillow down and glare at him. "I am NOT smiling."

He leans back, hands behind his head, looking too damn pleased with himself. "You so are."

Before I can argue back, my phone buzzes from the table. I grab it, still pouting—only to freeze the second I see the screen.

Enjoying your little moment? It won't last.

The blood drains from my face. My hands start shaking.

Keifer notices instantly. "Jay? What is it?"

I hand him the phone slowly. He slowly reads the message. The playfulness in the air vanishes, replaced by something sharp and dangerous.

He looks at me, all traces of his smirk gone. "They know where we are."
