Chapter 32 - Foothold (1)

Lin Feng

It has been two Earth weeks since Lin Feng successfully established a foothold on Norozza. Looking back, getting rid of the Crimson Beast Sect has been the easy part. With the successive campaigns organized by Immortals Ascension Pavillion to nab natives from the lower realm, Earth cultivators have come to master the art of besieging small settlements with discretion without alarming the surrounding local powers.

The Crimson Beast Sect was just a small-time local tyrant with less than a hundred cultivators. The sect master and its two deputies are the only three second major realm cultivators within the sect. Despite having less than a hundred cultivators, the valuable mine was still firmly in their possession simply because of their demonic beast army. According to the intelligence collected, an analyst report has guestimate that each cultivator in the Crimson Beast Sect has enslaved at least two to three demonic beasts each, making their demonic army size somewhere between two hundred to three hundred beasts. With such combat prowess, those evil cultivators interested the mine simply doesn't have the might to challenge the Crimson Beast Sect while evil cultivators that have the capability to do so have no interest for the mundane mine. Only the most powerful sect on Norozza has the facility and capability to construct airships.

In any case, a mob of enemy in the hundreds with cultivation below the third major realm is not something Lin Feng fears. Once the Crimson Beast Sect has been cut off from the outside world, a couple of gauss gatling guns is all it took to eliminate most of the cultivators from the Crimson Beast Sect.

Holding on to their new foothold on the other hand has been a slightly more challenging. Since they are on the defending front, it makes it difficult for Lin Feng to cut off his enemies from the outside world whenever they are attacked. Without the privacy, he has to hide the gauss gatling gun as well as any other novel weapons the cultivation world has never seen before. Each battle has to be engaged using the cultivator's combat method. Even then, Lin Feng's team can still play dirty by exploiting their ability to revive.

With each confrontation, a few in their team will charge headlong into the enemies and detonate the explosive vest they wore. Test has shown that even an unprepared second major realm cultivator will be blown to pieces with a vest strapped with ten kilos of magically enhanced C4. Such battles aren't much of a challenge when the initial suicidal charge decimate more than half of the opposing enemies. At the same time, the suicide team will always go after the most powerful cultivators in each confrontation.

After more than ten such confrontations, evil cultivators have learnt the hard way to steer clear of them. From a cultivator's common sense perspective, a cultivator will only choose to self-destruct when their death is inevitable. Given Lin Feng's team abnormal behavior, all evil cultivators can only conclude that the new overlord of the mine is a bunch of crazy ass fanatics that don't value their own life.

Lin Feng has introduced themselves as the Blood Refining Cult, a new minor branch of an even more powerful and mysterious deviant sect. Despite the casualties suffered with each confrontation, their ability to maintain their numbers suggest incoming reinforcement from a much large entity. Even if the evil cultivators somehow managed to eliminate the Blood Refining Cult, there is no guarantee the main sect those crazy ass fanatics come from will not send another batch to exact revenge and blow them into oblivion. With such a background, it will also give a plausible explanation to Lin Feng inexhaustible demand for slaves or where his supply of trading goods come from.

In the midst of defending their new foothold on Norozza, Lin Feng still has to continue building up his base of operation into an impregnable fortress. In comparison to the previous owner, he has built most of the base key infrastructures within a hill and underground it. As a precaution, the whole base is rigged with high explosive to blow up in case where defeat are inevitable. The revival chamber, the command center, barracks, armory and minor gateway that is still under construction are all housed within the hill. As long as these few key infrastructures are destroyed, their enemy will have little crucial evidence to trace their origin.

At present, only the minor gateway has yet to be completed due to its complexity and limited manpower. Once the minor gateway is completed, he will be able to start shipping back all the slaves and other resources he is able to purchase on Norozza. At the same time, the cost of opening a portal between Eldorin and Norozza will be reduce significantly enabling regular travel and transportation.

Although the minor gateway is important, Lin Feng can't drop everything to fully focus on completing the minor gateway. It will seem especially suspicious if Lin Feng stopped doing everything after establishing their authority in the local area. It was never easy for him to act like great villain given his personality and great sense for justice.

The first thing Lin Feng address is the treatment of slaves. When the whole of Norozza is treating slaves horribly, it will be a self-brought disaster if he started treating those slaves like a decent human being without reason. Fortunately for him, the elite planners supporting him has come up with a rather feasible plan. If things go according to plan, the rest of the slaves on Norozza might also get better treatment in the long run.

It is not a coincidence Lin Feng name his group the Blood Refining Cult. On the surface level, the economy of the cult he led will revolve around blood. Just like how some third world country residents will sell their blood for money, Lin Feng will be regularly drawing blood from his slaves to be sold to deviant sects that need blood for their cultivation. It is well known that Norozza's overlord, the Heavenly Blood Sect will buy almost any type of blood and has been buying without limit. For sustainability, Lin Feng has kept his slaves well fed and also given better treatment than before to ensure they remain healthy to work at the mine while also being able to draw their blood regularly. The regular drawing of blood may seem cruel but this is the best Lin Feng can do and more importantly, tolerated by other deviant sects. His country still doesn't have the military might to take on a whole world and any great endeavor starts from a small step. In any case, those slaves working in the mines only have to suffer such treatment for a year before Lin Feng send them to Eldorin.

Holding on to his bottom-line, Lin Feng believes that not all slaves that comes into his possession should suffer such harsh treatments. For the majority of the slaves, Lin Feng will send them to Eldorin after initial filtering. Only criminals will be sent to work in the mine. From his standpoint, all criminals should at least be subjected to a process of punishment and rehabilitation before being granted freedom again. He believes that no crime should go unpunished. As for how much manpower he has working in the mine, it is just a secondary priority to him. Mining more or less doesn't truly affect the country's long term growth when he can't openly mine with modern machineries. The amount of ores obtain using traditional mining method are just too inefficient and unproductive. Working in the mine for a year is just a benchmark. For hardened criminals that are unrepentance, their stay on Norozza will be extended for any infraction committed. Since there is punishment for bad behavior, there will also be a reward for good behavior. Criminals that are well behaved will have their duration working on Norozza reduced.

Next, Lin Feng will need to start making local connection and establish a channel to trade goods for slaves. In the plan given to him, Blood Refining Cult should slowly build its reputation until they became the largest slave trading market in the local region and in the long term, the largest slave trading merchant group on Norozza.

Setting up a trade channel is never a difficult task as long as there are goods that are highly sought after. The goods can either be significantly cheaper or its quality superior than others in the market. Getting such goods on the other hand is slightly of a hassle. Given Earth's manufacturing philosophy, mass production of superior quality good while reducing production cost aren't a real challenge. The problem is finding a reasonable explanation for Lin Feng's ability to produce such goods.

This explanation has also been well prepared. Lin Feng will attribute all his cheaper and superior goods to their blood refining technique. It is a technique that will requires a vast amount of blood to accomplish. As such, the hassle comes more from the fact that they have to add a layer of blood aura to all the products that came from Eldorin. Fortunately for Lin Feng, this last step falls under someone else responsibility back on Eldorin. He only needs to focus on selling in small quantity now to wet the appetite of those evil cultivators. He can start trading in bulk once the minor gateway is completed.
