Chapter 16 - Wings of Sol

The trees above Jericho and Cypher viciously shook, each branch flopping up and down with its leaves being scattered about by the wind.

"Solians?"

Cypher put his finger on Jericho's mouth, shushing him before pointing up.

The winged man was zipping through the trees, leaving fierce gusts of wind in his wake. It looked like he was scouting the forest in search of them.

Whispering to Jericho, Cypher attentively looked out for any sign of the man getting closer.

"After the fall of the old Central, and when you were exiled, a group of religious fanatics came claiming that this was a part of their religion's prophecy."

Jericho's eyes widened in shock, and his jaw dropped to the floor.

"Ironically, everything in their religious text has happened, and it's currently been mostly correct. But, it's obvious that they're forcing their prophecy to happen, I just don't know how."

Placing his hand on his temple, Jericho it trying to calm himself down; his mind was racing.

'Sol? Prophecy? Cult?'

"Why's it called the Church of Sol?"

Cypher forced his hand onto Jericho's mouth, his face flushed with white.

Suddenly, a gust of air shot in their direction, and soon after, a man followed with it.

"Found ya, Jerry!"

The winged man's golden chest plate glistened in the small amount of sunlight that peeked through the tree; he descended as if he were an angel from heaven.

"Cmon dude, I just want to take you to our church. The holy 'Book of Sol' beckons your return to his glorious kingdom!"

There was a smile that exuded a bright light coming from the man; his teeth were squeaky clean and white.

His golden hair flowed in the wind behind him, swaying with the wind that followed.

Jericho looked over at Cypher, expecting him to do something, but he just stood there, crouched down near Jericho.

He looked back up at the golden man, who slowly descended closer to them with his arm out.

"I see that look on your face, it's one of pain and suffering. Come be with 'him', he'll set you free."

The man landed on the ground in front of Jericho, his chiseled abs glistening.

"So, what do you say, brother? Will you join our family?"

He stared into Jericho's eyes from the small eye holes that revealed bright blue eyes that could pierce the soul. It seemed as if he didn't even notice Cypher was there; his eyes rested only upon Jericho.

Jericho glanced back over at Cypher. He was gone.

'You left me in this time of need!'

"Hah, why am I even asking! Of course, you'll join our family, you are the great Jericho who will carry us through the path created by the great Sol!"

The man put his hand back out towards Jericho, opening his balled fist to reveal a pendant.

"No need to speak, all it takes is a small cut and a drop of blood for you to be one with Sol."

He inched closer towards Jericho, frightened and honestly confused. Jericho stepped back.

Noticing this, the winged man's eyebrows raised from under his helmet.

"Are you afraid? Heh, I understand. Before I devoted my life to Sol, I was also afraid and confused by it. But once you truly accept 'him' into your soul, you'll be free from the dark and embraced by the sun."

"I'm not joining you're bullshit cult."

"Whoa, Jericho, we are not a cult. We're a group of people who are trying to save the world. Accept Sol, help guide us to him, Jericho, you're a prophet, you just don't know it yet! The name bestowed upon me is 'Flügel Gottes'."

"Fuck your silly ass name, fuck your church, and most of all, Sol can go rot in hell!"

Erriely enough, the smile on Flügel's face didn't drop not one bit; instead, he sighed.

"Well, if you won't come willingly, I'll just have to take you forcefully."

Readily gripping the handle of whatever weapon resides in the sheathe on his back, he lunged towards Jericho using only his feet, not being aided by his wings.

Reactively, Jericho jumped back in a defensive stance, ready for the attack that was soon to come.

Flügel was already right in front of him with his face inches from Jericho's, his hand swiftly moving from handle to Jericho's stomach.

'Fuck! A fake out!'

Right as the blow was about to land on Jericho's solar plexus, a black blur shot down from the trees above them, launching straight towards Flügel's head.

Feeling the air pressure coming down from above him, Flügel swung his body to the right, narrowly evading the strike.

Flugel's head dropped to the ground; his body didn't move. He began to shake profusely, as if he were having some sort of spasm.

His head shot up, revealing his red, angered face, drool dripping from his mouth.

He threw his finger towards Cypher, pointing at him vigorously

"HIS HOLY SPIRIT REVOKES YOU!"

Cypher picked himself from the ground, taking his foot out of the dirt.

Mocking Cypher pointed right back at him.

"I revoke you, scum."

Instantaneously, Flugel darted towards his grip once again, firmly gripping the sheath on his back.

"DIE, DIE, DIE!"

A sharp, golden, curved blade sliced through the wind, just barely connecting with Cypher's head.

Cypher ducked his head swiftly, dashing to the side, countering by slamming his foot into Flugel's side, clashing with his armor, sending vibrations through his leg.

Retaliating, Flugel grabbed Cypher viciously, his talons sank their claws into his ankle.

'I have to do something!'

Jericho leaped from off the ground, ignoring the gunk on him; he had to do something and fast.

Cypher groaned as he was lifted off the floor by his leg. The claws pierced even deeper than before, embedding themselves within them.

Their ever-tightening grip caused it to become immensely harder to resist or escape from their grasp.

Flugel hung Cypher in front of his face, their eyes interlocked with each other.

"You have the eyes of a sinner, all you could and will ever bring is destruction to yourself and 'your' people."

Cypher scoffed before filling up his mouth with a fat loogie and launching it at Flugel.

"So, what?"

Enraged Flugel flung Cypher into the air, then flew up above him before he could begin to fall back down.

Flugel grabbed him by his legs and spun around like a tornado, causing the air around them to distort.

He was trying to create a space of unbreathable air to suffocate his foe.

"What the hell?"

Jericho looked up at the spectacle in awe; the leaves from the surrounding trees were caught within the current.

Sharp blades of wind brisked along Jericho's face, leaving various small cuts along his cheeks.

'Just what the hell is happening up there!'

Whatever it was Jericho needed to get up there, he hastily examined his surroundings, looking for something that could help him get to where Flugel and Cypher were.

"Do you feel it, you, heathen?"

Flugel barked at Cipher, who was already unconscious, his eyes rolled back completely white.

"FEEL THE WRATH OF GOD!"

Preparing to spiral straight into the ground, Flugel rose up even higher into the ai,r flipping himself upside down.

"Wait!"

Flugel stopped instantly after hearing Jericho's voice, the fierce winds around them calming.

Cypher was hanging on by a thread; his ankle was still within the grasp of Flugel.

"Ah, so you've finally come to your senses!"

Flugel descending from the air in a less graceful way than before, his hair was amuck, it was frizzy, and a clump of hair covered parts of his eyes.

Yet, the sun still shone behind him, making him look like some sort of ugly angel.

When he finally touched the ground, he stood in front of Jericho, looking down at him, still holding up Cypher.

"So, have you chosen the church?"

Jericho looked around, thinking of a way out of this situation. He didn't want to leave with this odd man. But he did want to know more about how to get to Sol, and if their god was the same Sol that he once knew.

"If you answer these questions, I will consider joining your church."

Warm air brushed upon Jericho's cheek. Flugel was intimidatingly close to his face.

A wide grin grew upon the scary angel's face.

"Alrighty, let me dispose of this heap of garbage first."

Flugel raised his hands towards Cipher's neck, his talons slowly sinking in as blood trickled from the fresh wound.

"Bye-bye!"
