Chapter 15 - Chapter Fifteen

Chartreuse…

I went in search of Jinx and Sheridan to see what they were doing. The party was over and only few persons stayed around. To my horror and confusion, I found Jinx pounding on a door with heartbroken eyes. I could hear sobs coming from the room.

"Open up, Sherry. I am sorry. I shouldn't have said it. Please come out and talk to me." I heard him say. His voice sounded so heartbroken and shattered.

"Jinx?" He turned to me immediately. I noticed his white hair looked disheveled and his multicolored eyes had lost their brightness. He was truly sad.

"Chartreuse…I am glad you are here. I made a mistake. I big mistake. I don't want to lose her. I love her. I…I…"

"Shh, calm down, Jinx. I heard you confessing to her. I will talk to her. You just have to give us space and give her time." I told him and he nodded. I have never seen Jinx this way. He has always been the playfully cool sarcastic type. He had a soft heart though but he had a strong mind of mischief.

"I will talk to her tomorrow." He said.

"Exactly. Talk to her tomorrow. Now go, it almost midnight." He turned around and started walking away slowly. He turned back twice to stare at the door and I saw his eyes glisten. He was truly scared.

I turned to the door. The sobbing had stopped but I knew it was for a while. I knocked gently because I knew she could recognize my scent.

"Open up, Sherry." I spoke calmly.

"Go away, Chartreuse. I don't want to see anyone." She said in a sad tone. I sighed and then held the door knob. I sighed and closed my eyes, tapping on the soul of Sandra. I felt my body lighten more and it slowly tuned to thick black fog and I found my way through the little opening under the door. When I got in, I finally let go of the temporary powers and came back to my normal shape.

Sheridan looked surprised when she saw me.

"How did you?"

"The question should be transferred to you only that the 'how' should be replaced with 'why'." She sniffed and looked down at her fingers. She was sitted on the bed in the large room. Her hair was more disheveled than before and her makeup was totally ruined. Her dress still looked okay but her shoes were no longer on her feet and I couldn't find them anywhere in the room.

"The moon goddess is a bitch." She said in tears "When does she want me to meet the one I love, huh? When I am old and wrinkled with no strength in my bones? It would then turn out my mate is an immortal. Do you think he would want an old, weak and wrinkled lady?" She sniffed.

I walked towards her and sat on the bed bedside her. I hugged her and allowed her to cry.

"Everything happens for a reason." I said and let her continue crying. When she stopped, she had black mascara on her cheeks. She looked scary at the moment "You should have let him in and not lock him out. You don't need the full moon on your birthday to know who is the one for you. Your heart tells you so. You feel it and you wouldn't even know. For the full moon not to come out tonight, there has to be a good reason for that."

She looked at me, her yellow eyes glistening; "How do you know?" She sniffed.

I smiled at her; "That's what my grandfather told me. You should give him a chance, Jinx. If anyone knows Jinx better that I do or should, it would be you. He loves you dearly, Sheridan. He really wants you and he would have told you long time ago if only he had the courage, that I know. He was just scared that he might end up losing the one girl he loves and trusts. It's now I understand why Jinx prefers your company over mine. Why he would buy you sweets when I told you shouldn't have anymore. Why he would come out whenever he is sick to play with you. Why he always got so worked up if you got hurt during training. Now I understand his reactions. He behaves like that to me too and that was what made his feelings hard to detect but someone with a good eye would have noticed that the way he looked at you, the way he spoke to you, the way he gave you attention, the way her argued with you was totally different from me. Give him a chance, Sheridan."

"I might be a bad match, Chartreuse. For the moon goddess to have forgotten me then she probably knows I would not give any guy the happiness he deserves. I am afraid, Chart. I am scared. Besides, Evan loves…"

"That's it, Sheridan. You better go find Jinx and sort things out with him or I will if ignore you for a month. You don't want me to do that, do you?"

She shook her head vigorously; "I will go talk to him."

"Now?"

"Now."

"Good. You better clean up the mas…"

"I will go this way." She smiled and unexpectedly, she hugged me "Thank you, Chartreuse. I hope you meet a lovely guy who would be with you forever before this semester ends."

"Should I say Amen?" I joked making her hit me hard on my back "Ouch."

"Now, I have to find Jinx. Wonder where he would be." She said, getting up.

Jinx sat on the railing on the roof of the main building. He had taken off his hoodie despite the cold and all he could think of was the shock on the face of Sheridan when they kissed. She looked confused and scared. He found himself regretting.

He should have taken it bit by bit and not rush to kiss her. He pushed it but he would take things the way he saw them now. He would endure and try to win her back. He just couldn't imagine a day without seeing her face or imagine a day without annoying her. She was his everything, the reason why he was still jovial despite the curses he carried with him.

He raked his hair with his slender fingers after they got blown by the icy wind. Was his bad luck affecting his love life also? Was is preventing him from getting closer to Sheridan? Was it really creating an illusion in his mind?

Tears slipped from his eyes and he didn't bother to clean them off or hold them back. He really wanted to free his heart.

Sheridan landed skillfully on the roof. Jinx hadn't noticed her presence yet. She felt bad when she saw him bury his face in his palms. Did she really hurt him so much by running away?

She approached him slowly because she was scared of what he would say. Nothing really happened except his heart touching confession and the kiss. If anything, she interrupted him with that kiss and ran away, scared of the outcome. She was crying because she didn't feel worthy. Maybe she loved Jinx but just didn't know it.

Sheridan crouched behind him and touched his shoulder. He turned immediately and her eyes widened when she noticed he had been crying.

"Sheridan?" He hugged her tightly, not wanting to let go for anything "I am so sorry. I promise not to say that again. Please don't hate me. Don't avoid me. I still want us to be close just the way we have been…" she parted from him and kisses his lips. He never expected that and was scared to kiss her back.

She pulled back with a natural red color on her cheeks and nose; "You don't need to apologize, Jinx. You are not wrong. I should be the one to be blamed for this and not you. You were just confessing your feelings. I just…ran away in fear. I believed or no…I still believe that the full moon hasn't appeared on my birthday because I am not worth it. I still feel less of myself like I don't…"

"Shh. Say no more. You don't need to feel that way. I love you, Sherry. Give me a chance to prove it. Please give me a chance to show you how much I love and care about you." Jinx spoke to Sheridan with pleading eyes.

Sheridan smiled and hugged Jinx. Now she realized that she didn't need the full moon at all to know who would accept her the way she is. The person has been with her all along.

"I accept you, Jinx." She kissed his cheek.

He could feel his magic burst within him in happiness. He has never been this happy in ages. The girl he so much loved was finally his. Totally his. Only his. He felt contented. He would love her for as long as they lived.
