"Emily…" Lucian started, his tone low.
But she shook her head lightly, cutting him off before he could speak. "And if you have any other personal matters or appointments, that's your business to handle," she finished firmly.
Her words were polite, but her meaning was clear — she wasn't interested in crossing professional lines.
Lucian studied her quietly, the corner of his mouth twitching. He nodded slowly, as though mulling something over, yet a flicker of irritation passed through his eyes. He was still very much angry that she had ignored Emilie's approach earlier.
"Fine," he said finally, his voice calm but edged with an emotion she couldn't read or wasn't ready to read. "Get ready. We're going to your parents' house in an hour."
