The lights are blinding me, please turn the lights off.
"Miss Mary, please! I wanna sleep some more."
I was woken up by a sudden force on my left cheek. It was painful, but the pain diminished due to the fact that I was half asleep.
As I opened my eyes, I saw a rather rare sight: Kit was praying. He had closed his eyes and was murmuring some vows about forgiving himself for what he had done to someone and what he was about to do. Who was he talking about?
I was thinking about this when he suddenly opened his eyes, and his hand came right down to my other cheek. A tight slap was delivered once more.
This bastard was praying to the gods for slapping me. I am gonna kill him.
After the slap was delivered, I quickly rose up with anger.
"Why the hell are you slapping me, bastard?"
His calm demeanor never faded; it always astonished me.
"I was doing my duty as a fellow mate of waking you up, Erebus."
I thought about his answer for a second and countered.
"Couldn't you have rather shaken me or shouted at me? Why slap?"
"I tried, Erebus, but you wouldn't wake up, so I had no choice."
This bastard said this with a smirk on his face. Wait, where are we?
This is not the orphanage. This is not even the road, nor the same city. Why are we in the middle of a jungle?
Why am I saying this in my mind?
"Why are we in the middle of a jungle?" I shouted to Kit.
Kit's face told me that he had been to this place or at least been in this situation a thousand times, which made me a bit relieved. Okay, at least he knows where we are.
Kit blinked a little.
"I don't know about this forest."
Yeah, yeah, you don't know about this place. What? I recollected what this wheelchair-bound bastard just said. I am gonna flip his chair.
"How could you not know and be so calm?"
He kept his hand on my shoulder.
"You can't blame me, Erebus. I told you to run away, but don't worry. I have not been to this exact place, but it is not the first time my eyes have traveled us back in time."
I made a face of an all-knowing donkey—meaning a face of a clueless monkey.
"What? Time travel? Has my friend gone mad, or have I gone mad?"
Control your mind, see your surroundings first, and try to talk to him.
"You are joking, right? I could have believed that you had special eyes for hypnotizing and maybe even harming people, but this is on a whole different level."
Kit inhaled like he had never taken enough air in his life and exhaled. Why is this guy so dramatic?
"I know that it may sound like a farfetched dream or a lie, but that's the truth. It actually happens very rarely, and in most cases, we are safe. You and me—we are imperceptible to the rest of the world right now."
I thought about it. "You mean invisibility?"
He shook his head in approval. This might be more interesting than I thought, but which era are we in? We have to find that out first.
"Let's first get out of this forest." Kit signaled me to move him up to his wheelchair, which meant I had to follow his direction.
This guy had jumped out of his wheelchair especially to slap the shit out of me and to mock me with his prayers. Unbelievable!
It had been about twenty minutes since we started roaming all around the jungle, but somehow, neither did I feel thirsty nor did any type of fruit make me want to eat it. This time travel had done something to our digestion.
I was thinking about something since we started the journey, which I finally asked Kit.
"How do you know that we are in the right direction, and how are we moving without thinking?"
Well, if he isn't thinking, then how does he know it's the right path? Even if one thinks, if he doesn't know the area, he can't find the right path just by thinking about something he doesn't know.
Okay, now I am just saying anything to distract myself.
"Well, I am trusting my guts," Kit spoke without thinking.
I froze for a second. I am rolling someone in a wheelchair who doesn't know the direction and going by his so-called guts? Am I mad?
Kit suddenly spoke out.
"And don't think I am mad. This is a tested phenomenon. Whenever I have been lost while time traveling, this is the way I get out of that situation or location."
I rolled my eyes.
"And how many times have you done this, and where was this place you had been teleported to?"
"Two places till now, not including this. One was a sandy desert—the worst place ever. My wheelchair sank in the sand, so I had to crawl for two hours. I didn't feel the heat, nor was I hungry. That is why I was able to stay alive."
I had a good question ready for him.
"What happened after two hours?"
"After I found a good shelter beside a coconut tree, I got teleported back to the present."
I smiled at that realization and faced Kit's wheelchair.
"So we just have to find the exit of this forest, and boom! We are back at home."
He nodded steadily.
"Well, it always works like that."
"So I think we should go home now."
I saw what he was talking about. I saw the edge of the forest and rushed his wheelchair like a race car.
We got there in no time.
"Yes! Finally, I can relax in my bed and stay away from this slapping bastard."
Two minutes...
Three minutes...
Four minutes...
Nothing happened.
As I was going to shout out Kit's name, the market took away my attention. It was right in front of me—traces of people. No, there were real people in the market.
Kit saw my face and exclaimed:
"This journey is gonna be a long one!"
