The melodious sweet music played in the school ballroom,which was actually the hallway of the school. Everyone who danced felt free and were in their own world.
Much could be said for Makayla as she was feeling an undescribable feeling all over her body. She didn't know if it was her mother's lasagna she ate before coning that started to do its trick,the music being played in the room, Justin's hand on her waist or all of them at once. She just didn't want it to stop as it felt so magical and elating. For once she decided to believe in fairy tales. She felt like she was in the shoes of Cinderella as she danced with Justin,her prince charming. Only this time,she didn't have a fairy godmother. Well Lucy could be classified as hers since she made it possible for her to be in this situation.
The music continued and so did she,dancing with her partner. He held her so gently like she was a priceless antique that would break when handled improperly. Was he really into her or this was his way with girls? Because,she wasn't the the first girl he had been with. He had hang out with almost every girl in the school so she doubted if he had true feelings for her or was just going on with the flow. Either way,she decided not to expect anything serious or romantic in order to not get disappointed. She may not be knowledgeable when it came to things like this but she wasn't going to let her heart fall prey to this heartbreaker. Yes,he was known as the heartbreaker of the school. He was always the one who ended a relationship and his silly reason the girls said he gave was because he wasn't into a relationship that was too deep or complicated. Absurd she thought it was.
Mak decided to stop thinking about all this and focus on what was going on now. She wanted to enjoy every single moment here and indulge herself in this strange but nice feelings she was experiencing.
The couple danced so elegantly and gracefully to the extent that the others ceased their dance and decided to spectate on them. It was as if they understood each other's body and mind. Their body movements moved with the rhythm of the song and was in sync with it.
People wondered if they rehearsed together before this night. If not,then they were really compatible.
Even Lucy who was in the crowd with her partner August was really proud of how her butterfly was doing so far. Tears threatened to fall but she reminded herself of her makeup as she was watched her best friend and Justin dance like Cinderella and her Prince Charming.
"So you had it in you after all. You sneaky fox"She muttered to herself.
The music got to its end and Mak was about to pull away when Justin pulled her closer to him to the extent that,her breast brushed against his chest. And just like that,he leaned in and kissed her.
She froze in shock as she closed her eyes to savor this burning sensation in her chest. It was like the two of them were the only one in the world at that moment. Her heart was thumping so loud,she could hear it and feared he could too.
Just like that,all her doubts dissipated into thin air. She threw caution into the air as she decided to believe he was into her because this kiss was so magical and her heart seemed to be overjoyed meaning it was all destiny.
She leaned in more to savor his soft lips on hers more, not giving a damn about the world. This was her first kiss and she never imagined it would be so magical like this.
The students around them clapped which made her open her eyes and realized she and Justin weren't the only ones in the world after all.
Justin retracted his lips from hers with what it seemed to be love in his eyes,that's what she thought it was and looking shy, he apologized;
"Sorry,I got carried away.Hope I didn't offend you anywhere?"he asked looking worried.
Of course not,she was right now feeling the best feeling she had ever experienced in her life. The joy of winning awards and trophies and coming in first place in school couldn't be compared to this.
She couldn't even open her mouth now because her heart was really thumping hard and she feared she would faint or get a high blood pressure. All she could do to assure him that she wasn't the least offended was to shake her head and he smiled. His cute smile made her blush now. Her cheeks and ears were all red like that of a lobster.
The couple had stayed there till God knows how long till they heard someone aww them.
Mak was now shy and her eyes were now on the ground. Everyone in the school knew her to be that quiet,calm and innocent girl. Who knew she would carry the show today with such a bold and romantic act. She knew they would now have a different view of her. That she was a hypocrite. But she cared less because it wasn't that way,she just decided to grow up and come out of her comfort zone. That wasn't hypocrisy and neither was it a sin.
"OMG,that was a fairytale we had just witnessed. Now if the lovely couple wouldn't mind,can they please vacate the dancefloor for us?It is time for the dance battle and don't forget to vote for your prom King and Queen. The voting portal will soon close after half an hour. Now the the fun begin.Deejay,show us what you got" Michelle,who seemed to be the host for tonight challenged and announced.
Mak and her prince charming then did what was asked of them and went back to join the crowd.
"My little bird has finally left her nest. Who knew you had it in you all this while,you just needed a time like this to show it. I'm so so proud of you. " Lucy,her best friend said and hugged her when she got close to her.
"So how was your first kiss?"she asked Mak not pulling away. She was aware that Mak had never kissed a guy or girl before and her lips were virgin but from today,they weren't anymore.She was so happy for her best friend.
She on the other hand had kissed countless of boys and she would be lying if she said she remembered her first kiss and who she had it with.
"It was so magical"Mak whispered into her ear and pulled away from her friend's embrace and was smiling from ear to ear.
The deejay started the music again but this time,it wasn't the slow calm music but the energetic and loud one.
The students with full vigor rushed to the dancefloor and swayed and moved their bodies according to the beats of the music.
"Come on let's go"Lucy said as she urged her best friend to join her to dance which she hesitated but seeing Justin waiting for the two of them ,she thicken up her skin and decided to join even though she hated crowded places. The heights at which people went for love.
"Come on don't switch to your boring self,I liked the bold one earlier"Lucy claimed a little impatient. She wasn't going to waste her time persuading her best friend to dance. After all she had at least kissed a boy,that was big progress which needed to be celebrated. Just as she was about to give up,
"Fine let's go"Mak ordered.
What just like that,what had gotten into her best friend today? On normal days she would kneel and beg till tears started to fall for Mak to follow her to a party and with that,she would still refuse. She wondered if it was because of Justin. She shook her head with that thought.
The three of them soon joined the crowd and started dancing. Mak didn't know what she was doing but looking at her best friend and copying her moves,she soon got the hang of it.
She was really having fun here. Was this what went on at parties she got invited to by Lucy and refused to come? She sighed in retrospect. She was going to change from now onwards.
