Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: I Must Become a Shinigami

[Soul Society]

"Do you think he's dead?"

In a clearing, two young children watched a man with white hair lying on the ground, his eyes covered with a black shawl.

"What kind of questions are you asking? Of course he's dead. Otherwise, how could he be here?"

"Ah~ No, I meant, is he dead, really dead?"

"Well, who knows? Anyway, whether he's dead or not, it's none of our concern. The academy opens its doors in a few days. We need to get ready."

"You're right. Let's go!"

After those words, the two children began to walk away, never looking back.

"My God, this world is so harsh. Even children have no compassion."

As they left, the man with white hair, Satoru Gojo, opened his eyes.

It had been a few hours since he entered this strange world. At first, he was quite disoriented. But after playing dead for a few hours and listening to different people, he understood his situation better.

It was the afterlife.

Surprising as it may seem, Gojo wouldn't be who he was if he let himself be disturbed by such a thing. Even in death, he had managed to defeat humanity's greatest curse.

"Haha! These youngsters better make a statue of me. Maybe Nobara will even write a book about me?"

Thinking of his students, his smile faded a bit. He had grown fond of the small team he was in charge of, and he had to admit that leaving them made him sad. But at least, they were alive.

"Alright, that's enough. There's no use in moping around."

The most important thing at that moment was to figure out what he was going to do.

Raising his hand, he looked at it carefully, furrowing his brows.

"I sense a strange energy flowing through my body. But it's not a cursed energy."

He couldn't quite describe it, but it was something purer.

As the name suggests, evil energy is born from the malice of the human heart. From there, monsters called Curses are born, and sorcerers use it to defeat them.

"First of all, I'm dead, right? So how come I feel drowsy, tired, and hungry?"

It was another problem he didn't quite understand.

"But the worst..."

He frowned, concentrated. It lasted a few seconds before he sighed:

"For some reason, I've managed to keep the six eyes, but I've lost 'Limitless.'"

It was a tough blow. Not knowing how to use his current energy, he couldn't do anything for now. Even though the six eyes would be extremely useful to control this new energy, losing Limitless meant he had lost over 80% of his power.

Fortunately, he wasn't in a dangerous zone or anything like that.

"I lack information. I have no money, no home, and I'm wearing a strange kimono. It's really a great start. I feel like the hero in a role-playing game."

Even though the situation was quite desperate, he was still able to laugh about it.

It wasn't because he naively thought everything would be fine. It was simply because he refused to bow down to adversity.

Standing up, he began to follow the path taken by the two children. He felt a great concentration of energy, similar to the one circulating in his body.

These were his first steps into the Soul Society.

----

After leaving the place where he was lying, it didn't take him long to spot what was probably a town. Once he arrived, it would have been more accurate to call it a village or a shantytown.

Once there and after asking a few questions, he surprisingly got answers quite easily. After all, most, if not all, here had already experienced the same situation as him.

"So this place really is the afterlife."

Sitting on a rock on the other side of the town, Gojo sighed nostalgically. Deep down, he was still a bit incredulous, but now he had no doubt. But what really annoyed him in his current situation wasn't his death or his appearance in the afterlife.

"I fought to protect the world, and after my death, I'm sent to the depths of the afterlife? Or maybe it's because I cheated? But damn it, that shouldn't have been enough to counterbalance my good karma, right?"

He joked a bit before finally sighing once more.

If all the information he received was accurate, then he belonged to the Soul Society, more precisely to the 80th North District of an area called Rukongai. The area where lost souls usually appeared.

But among all the information he received, the one that particularly caught his attention was:

"Shinigami and Hollows."

After death, people generally had two destinations based on their luck.

Either their souls were guided by Shinigami and they could enter the Soul Society, or they became Hollows and entered Hueco Mundo.

"It's really like sorcerers and Curses. Moreover, Hollows are born from souls, and Shinigami are also evolved souls. In essence, they use the same source of energy. Just like sorcerers and Curses use cursed energy."

Furthermore,

"Shinigami can visit the Earth to kill Hollows."

That was very important. He didn't know what would happen after his death. Even though he had managed to completely defeat the severely weakened Sukuna, who could know what would happen?

If he could return to Earth...

"Of course, that assumes time flows the same way."

At least, judging by his clothes and behavior, he was certain that this "paradise" was connected to Japan. But there were too many unknowns.

But fortunately, he now had a solution,

"I must become a Shinigami."
