"This Singularity is set in 1783, during the American Revolutionary War. In the original history, America's victory and independence were a pivotal moment for human history!"
Romani addressed the group during the meeting.
Morpheus nodded. If asked what was most crucial in human history, he'd point to the Declaration of Independence... nothing else came close.
The American Revolutionary War was deeply tied to that declaration.
Romani continued, "Thanks to the intel from our last mission, Sheba has undergone some refinements…" He glanced at Morpheus. "A special magical formula has brought new changes, allowing us to achieve observations we couldn't before."
"So, what did you find?" Olga Marie asked. Since Romani had called the meeting, he must have discovered something significant.
Romani replied promptly, "This time, it's a chaotic clash of multiple factions. From Sheba's observations, there are at least three factions involved. I can't confirm if there are others that haven't been detected, as this is Sheba's first official observation post-refinement."
Morpheus asked, "Are you worried that too many factions will create complications, leading to major unpredictability in our actions?"
"Yes. The factions are clearly fighting each other, and they all seem to have Servants…" Romani frowned. "I don't know which one is Goetia's setup."
"No big deal," Morpheus said casually. "We'll just take out all the Servants. We can split up... Ritsuka and her team handle one faction, I'll deal with another. If we don't find the Holy Grail, we'll take out the third faction."
"And if we still don't find the Grail?"
Morpheus thought for a moment. "Then I'll tear the Singularity apart and retrieve the Grail. Its existence is tied to the Singularity's stability, so as long as the Singularity exists, the Grail is there."
Seeing Morpheus's nonchalant tone, Romani sighed. "Fine, let's deal with the factions first. If we really can't find the Grail, then you can dismantle the Singularity."
He had no doubt Morpheus wasn't joking. If they couldn't locate the Grail, Morpheus would absolutely aim to destroy the Singularity to dig it out.
Even if it meant tearing apart the entire American continent, Morpheus wielded Durandal... a sword said to be capable of splitting a planet!
"I'll send you the remaining intel. Review it, and if you have questions, ask me. I'll answer on the spot," Romani added.
A file was then distributed to the group.
Morpheus glanced at it but wasn't particularly interested in the details. His focus was elsewhere.
For instance, which Servants they might encounter in this Singularity. That was the key. If he could meet Servants from the Age of Myths, he could have a proper chat, borrow their Noble Phantasms, and dissect their structures.
So, as he waited in boredom while Olga Marie questioned Romani, the meeting finally ended after half an hour. Morpheus let out a cheer and leapt from his seat.
Romani barely resisted the urge to facepalm and cautiously glanced at Olga Marie. With Morpheus's behavior, she was bound to be displeased.
But to his surprise, Olga Marie seemed dazed, lost in thought.
"What's up with her?" Romani wondered but didn't dwell on it. He turned to Mash. "Mash, come for a physical checkup later!"
"Okay, Doctor."
"You've been through several Singularities. They've been relatively easy, but we still need to check. If there's an issue, you might need rest or adjustments."
"Don't worry, Doctor. My body's fine!" Mash said with a smile, but Romani shook his head. "I only trust the test results."
He then left the meeting room.
Morpheus raised an eyebrow at the scene and walked out.
Fujimaru Ritsuka, observing this, glanced at the still-dazed Olga Marie, smirked to herself, and left as well.
At the door, Mash asked, "Senpai, did you notice something?"
"Of course. I'm pretty sure my guess is right," Fujimaru Ritsuka said with a smile, leaning close to Mash's ear. "I think the Director's got a crush on Morpheus."
"What?!" Mash exclaimed, startled, prompting Fujimaru Ritsuka to quickly cover her mouth. "Not so loud! Don't spread it!"
"Oh, okay!" Mash nodded hurriedly, then whispered, "Didn't you say we'd discuss it with others?"
"Let's observe first. See if the Director needs help. If she does, we'll discuss it then. For now, we hold off!"
She then asked, "By the way, how's your body doing?"
"No issues, Senpai. Don't worry," Mash smiled. "I'm a Servant now, after all!"
"Still, listen to Dr. Romani and get checked. Your health comes first!" Fujimaru Ritsuka said, grinning. "You're my Servant, and I've got to take responsibility for you!"
"Right, Senpai. I'll make sure the Doctor does a thorough check and doesn't slack off!" Mash nodded lightly.
Seeing Mash playfully tease her, Fujimaru Ritsuka laughed, and they walked together toward the medical bay.
…
"Why are you here? Need a checkup too?" Romani asked curiously as Morpheus followed him.
Morpheus shook his head. "Not for me. I just want to know about Mash's condition. If needed, I can help."
"You, help?!" Romani's eyes widened. He quickly moved to a computer, furiously typing to pull up a file. "Take a look. This is Mash's secret."
"Hm, a homunculus… or rather, a test-tube baby. Born in 2000, so 16 now, right? Your tests show her cells are aging rapidly, likely to die by 18?"
"That was the initial estimate. I thought fusing with a Servant to make her a Demi-Servant would slow the aging, but it didn't work. She could lose bodily functions at any time… Though the fusion did boost her immunity. Before, she couldn't even go outside…"
"Your tech's too primitive…" Morpheus frowned at the data. "Too bad I'm not versed in this field. If only… Never mind, Aleister can't show up here…"
"Aleister?"
"My mentor in magic. Brilliant in science too. He could easily fix Mash's issues…" Morpheus said, then smiled. "But don't worry. I can't fix her cellular aging, but I can give her a new life."
"How?!"
"Let her die, then revive her soul in a new body."
"What?!" Romani's eyes widened, then he caught on. "You mean like the Director's state?"
"No, no. Marie's situation is because I'm busy, and her body's gone. I need something from her life... some hair, for instance... as a medium to create a new body. Don't think I'm a creep; I need it as a vessel."
"Like a puppet?"
"Yes, like a puppet. I've got experience there. But a real flesh-and-blood body is better." Morpheus grinned. "So, using her hair, you help me craft a flesh body. I'll assist to ensure it doesn't develop its own consciousness."
"To prevent a new soul?"
"Exactly. I can't create souls, but I can stop one from forming."
"Alright, I'll help. But for Mash…"
"Test my blood first."
"Your blood?!" Romani blinked, confused.
Morpheus smiled, conjuring a dagger. A wind blade appeared, slicing his palm.
Instantly, his palm was pierced, and his aura shifted.
Sensing the compassionate, merciful energy, Romani's eyes widened. "You're performing Sanctification?!"
"Yes. I'll use a Sanctification spell to align myself with Jesus, then use the blood of the Son as a remedy to see if it can restore Mash to a normal human state." Morpheus glanced at the time. "Mash should be here soon."
"If this works and Mash becomes a normal human, you'll be my lifelong benefactor, Morpheus!"
"Don't get sappy. Saving her is part of my path as the Son, a step in exploring magic's mysteries. Besides, since Mash exists, I'll try to bear her sins…"
Morpheus's smile turned serene and compassionate. A cross appeared behind him, weighing on his back, laden with countless sins, bending his knees.
Compared to last time, this Sanctification spell was noticeably more effective.
Just then, the door opened, and Mash and Fujimaru Ritsuka walked in.
They froze at the sight... Morpheus bearing a cross, Romani collecting his blood in a test tube.
"What are you doing?!" Mash exclaimed, rushing forward, only to be held back by Fujimaru Ritsuka.
"Um, Morpheus has that Sanctification magic, right? His blood can heal…" Fujimaru Ritsuka whispered, reminding Mash of when Morpheus used it in France.
She'd been startled by the bizarre scene and hadn't processed it.
"But why? Does someone need his blood to heal?" Mash asked curiously.
"You do," Romani said with a smile, preserving the blood in the test tube.
"I-I don't need it!"
"No way," Romani shook his head. "This could restore your body to a normal human's level. If you separate from your Servant, you could live the life you want."
"Give it a try. It's likely fine. The Son's blood can even cure blindness," Morpheus added.
The cross behind him vanished, his wounds began to heal, and soon he was as good as new.
"The blood's effect lasts for a while. Do Mash's checkup first, then use the blood for treatment. I suggest half oral, half injected. Injection needs to be quick... there's no reaction now, but if the Son's blood loses its effect, injecting later could cause issues."
"Got it!" Romani nodded, turning to Mash. "Let's start. No time to waste!"
"Okay!" Mash knew this wasn't the time to dawdle. She lay on the bed, letting the equipment scan her.
Seeing the results, Romani sighed in relief. "Good, no worsening. Everything's as it was initially."
He poured half the blood into a cup for Mash and drew the rest into a syringe.
Looking at the red liquid, Mash hesitated, then closed her eyes, tilted her head back, and drank it all.
"Hm?!" Her eyes snapped open in surprise. "It tastes like wine?"
Morpheus laughed. "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you."
Fujimaru Ritsuka's eyes lit up. "I know this! Bread is the body, wine is the blood... Jesus's sacrifice for humanity!"
"Exactly. That's why it tastes like wine now. Wait too long, and it'll just taste like blood."
Romani injected the remaining blood into Mash's arm. Once finished, he returned to the monitors, closely observing her body's changes.
His serious demeanor silenced the room, everyone waiting for the results.
After what felt like an eternity, as Morpheus considered checking himself, Romani's trembling voice broke the silence.
"It… it worked! Not only has her immune system returned to normal, but her cellular aging rate is also at a normal human level!"
Mash's breath caught, then she let out a cheer.
Morpheus smiled faintly, turned, and headed to his room to rest. They'd depart tomorrow.
