Chapter 46 - Chapter 46 : Prince Joseph (Arkhan)

On October 22, 981, the bells of the royal palace rang across the capital, a new prince had been born.

His name was Joseph, the second child and first son of King Louis Vrans Arkhan XVI and Queen Marie Cindy Antoinette, and he was born within the magnificent walls of the Palace of Versailles, where golden halls, crystal chandeliers, and endless gardens surrounded the royal family.

From the moment he opened his eyes, Joseph carried a title that would shape his entire life Dauphin of Arkhan, the heir to the throne.

The kingdom celebrated his birth with great joy, bells rang through the city, soldiers fired ceremonial salutes, and nobles gathered at the palace to offer their congratulations.

To the people, Joseph represented the future one day, they believed, the little prince would sit upon the throne of Arkhan and continue the royal bloodline but Joseph was still only a child he loved the simple things that children loved.

He enjoyed walking through the palace gardens, watching birds fly between the trees, listening to musicians practicing in distant rooms, and spending time with his family, whenever he walked through the palace, servants would bow before him but Joseph never quite understood why.

One afternoon, he looked at a servant who had lowered his head before him.

"Why do you always bow when you see me?" Joseph asked innocently, the servant smiled.

"Because you are our future king, Your Highness."

Joseph looked toward the enormous palace beyond them.

"Do I really have to become king?"

The servant hesitated.

"Yes, Your Highness."

Joseph lowered his eyes.

"I think I'd rather just be Joseph."

For a moment, the servant did not know how to respond, the little prince had no idea how heavy his future truly was as Joseph grew older, however, his health began to weaken he suffered from a serious illness known at the time as consumption, later understood as tuberculosis.

His body became increasingly fragil the palace physicians tried everything they could, medicines were prepared, special diets were arranged, doctors from distant kingdoms were summoned to examine the young prince but Joseph's condition continued to deteriorate.

In the final period of his life, he also suffered from problems affecting his spine, making it increasingly difficult for him to move freely his parents watched helplessly as their son became weaker.

Queen Marie Cindy often remained beside his bed she would sit quietly, holding his small hand while the candlelight flickered across the room.

"Mother," Joseph once whispered.

"Yes, my child?"

"Will I become king?"

Marie Cindy looked at him.

For a moment, she could not answer.

Then she gently smiled.

"You can become whatever your heart wishes."

Joseph smiled faintly.

"I think I'd like to travel."

"To where?"

"Everywhere."

His mother gently brushed his hair away from his forehead.

"Then perhaps, one day, you will."

But that day never came.

On June 4, 989, tragedy descended upon the royal family, Joseph was only seven years old, inside the Château de MeudonChâteau de Meudon, the young Dauphin took his final breath.

The news spread throughout the kingdom, the heir to the throne was gone the palace that had once celebrated his birth became silent.

No bells of celebration rang that day, no crowds gathered in joy instead, the royal family mourned the loss of a child who had never been given the chance to become the king everyone expected him to be.

King Louis Vrans Arkhan XVI stood silently beside his son's resting place, Marie Cindy Antoinette struggled to accept that the little boy who had once run through the palace gardens would never return Joseph had been born to inherit a kingdom but he never received the opportunity to wear its crown.

After Joseph's death, the title of Dauphin passed to his younger brother, Charlesthe little prince now became the new heir to the throne.

History would later remember him as Louis Vrans Arkhan XVII but for the royal family, Joseph was never simply the prince who had died before his time he was their son, heir brother, and their little princend for a brief seven years, he had been the quiet hope of a kingdom that was already beginning to tremble beneath the surface.

The revolution was approaching the world Joseph had been born to inherit would soon change forever but before the kingdom descended into chaos, there had been a little boy named Joseph who simply wanted to see the world and although he never became king his name remained forever among the children of the Arkhan royal family.
