Reunion
It's been quite a while since graduation and Virgil had changed somewhat, not really changed but leaned a little deeper into what he had never really wanted to accept. That part of him that had always sounded like he was some sort of devil or evil in the world.
No one ever understood it, not even Virgil himself understands it but he finds it comforting, the voices in his head, the whispers that define the things that always seemed foreign to him and how they actually worked, Virgil had a second man that lived inside him but he never knew it. And he would converse with this man about things only he could understand.
He had never wanted to make Anna the cause of the way he feels and looks at things because he felt no matter how it was sliced or looked at, that memory was sacred to him even if it turned out something that wasn't meant to be, he still cherished it - cherished her.
It's been a year at most, his sis was still schooling at De Vine Technical College, so he decided to go visit her as well as his guys that were graduating that same year.
Later that afternoon he arrives at his former school, and things didn't really change much and it gave him some kind of weird comfort, walking through the school gates, he was greeted by a warm feeling of nostalgia remembering all the good things that happened within those walls.
Simply put, this graduation was for the 5th now 6th year students or Anna set and he wanted to see how she would dress to attend, he went to settle with some of his guys while awaiting the start of the event.
And while he got bored and immersed himself in his music and his device, he was tapped on the thigh, looking up his guy Japhet pointed outwards "look at your babe" Virgil looked out to where he was directed and there she was - Anna.
She had just arrived, and my was she looking more radiant than he thought she could ever look, Virgil had known her to be radiant, beautiful and all that but today was beyond what he could ever have imagined. There was quite a distance between them and he found himself staring intensely at her, captivated by nothing other than her aura.
Was he being called or ordered to go meet her? He couldn't tell almost like he was under some sort of spell, he felt some kind of warmth just from looking at her.
He also felt it would be better not to get involved again too save himself some hurt and spare him the weird atmosphere that would come with it. While still locked in she happens to look to his direction and they lock eyes, casually turning his face back to his device.
His guys knew what was going on but soon afterwards he's told she's coming over to meet them and they didn't want to stay around there any longer and to tease Virgil a bit began dragging him from his seat to follow them to their class for a while.
Virgil knew exactly what was going on here and tried as he might but was eventually overpowered and taken from his seat, they intercepted Anna before she could reach their canopy since the event took place outdoors. They greeted one another, there was no way he could avoid talking to her so he just had to fess up and do it.
He wanted to shake her hand but she was opting in for a hug, what could he do but accept it and respond in kind. They eventually all went into their class and Anna then left him to go join her classmates in the other end of the room play around.
Virgil just went to a spot at the window that overlooked the whole event space outside, he had began to enjoy the solace high tops gave him especially when staring into an open space.
Maybe he might just get to like this new part he was still discovering, being alone for almost an hour still immersed in his music until Anna came along, she gently tapped him on his shoulder and was urging him to come join them but he told her he was okay.
She insisted and began dragging on him but what started as a petty game began to slowly annoy him, not because of anything else but because he didn't know if she was ignorant - ignorant about the fact he still very much loves her like the very first time they were together, or she was just playing a game.
"that's enough Anna, I'm not interested" in a kind of cold tone, which made her drop the childish attitude, she had the thought to leave since he was just cold to her but immediately thought to herself she was being selfish.
She had been clinging to the guy she dumped like they were still dating, and even if he did sound cold he never did once look her in the eye and tell her that so he still had to be hurting or even more still in love with her, so she chose to sit with him rather than leave him there.
"I'm sorry Virgil.." her apology was tethered with all the sincerity as her heart could muster, he knew this and looked slowly towards her.
Heaving a deep sigh, he turns to face her and she explains something to him
"look I'm not trying to play any games or play you in any way, I know you still have those feelings and I was being inconsiderate even as much as you tried not to make things weird between us both"
She didn't need to finish that statement, he leaned in and told her it was fine, she didn't need to beat herself up over it, leaning back out to face the window while she sat there still. He got up and stretched out his hand, with a gentle smile that said "c'mon, let's go have fun"
