Beep... Beep... Beep

The rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor filled the white interior of a hospital room, slow...too slow.

Lying on the bed was a young boy, his skin unhealthily pale and his body skinny. Half-lidded eyelids scanned his surroundings...he was alone. The doctors who were working on him just a few minutes earlier had left after telling him the worst news of his life.

His parents were dead.

The truck that had crashed into their car had killed them. Tears streamed down the boy's face as he questioned a single thing. Why was he still alive?

He could move his face, but everything past his neck was completely unresponsive. He couldn't feel the sheets on his body or how the needles felt on his hands.

He wanted to scream, to shout in despair, but he had done enough of that these past few hours...Too much of that.

"Go to sleep." A deep voice emanated from nowhere, an underlying tone of something unrecognizable present.

He tried to move his body to check for the voice's origin, only to be reminded of his unfortunate situation. "W-w-who's there?" His voice came out small, smaller than it had ever been.

A loud chuckle came in response, almost mocking. "What a sorry sight. So much promise, only for it to be destroyed by a freak accident."

Mustering all of his energy, he'd try to make his voice more imposing. "T-ell me who you are!" Only for the effort to fall flat.

"Go to sleep."

"W-wha-"

"Go to sleep."

"Go to sleep."

"Go to sleep."

"Go to sleep."

"Go to sleep."

Unwillingly, the boy's eyes fluttered, his chest burning like something was burrowing underneath it. 'I-is this how I die?"

Beep... Beep... BEEEEEEEP-

Silence.

The world held its breath. He was gone.
