Compared to Hughie, Butcher seemed calmer.

He slowly walked to the side of the specially made glass bassinet, placed his hand on the Compound V IV tube, and followed the tube to look at the infant in the bed.

Perhaps sensing Butcher's gaze, the infant subconsciously opened her eyes.

Then…

Two blue lasers shot out from her eyes, striking directly onto the specially crafted glass!

"Damn!"

Butcher was startled, subconsciously taking a step back before saying:

"Is this a Super Baby?! So this is how Supes are made?"

Butcher finally understood the 'birth' method of Supes.

They weren't born with powers at all; they were merely monsters manufactured by Vought.

Butcher didn't marvel for long; once he confirmed that Compound V was Vought's method for creating Supes, he immediately took out his phone and snapped a few pictures of the infant.

His old flame in the CIA kept insisting there wasn't enough evidence; now he would capture all the evidence and let her see if it was sufficient this time!

"So… there's no such thing as being chosen by God, right? So-called Supes are just… special humans created by Vought?"

It took Hughie a while to grasp the situation.

After taking photos, Butcher took out a syringe to extract a sample of Compound V and said to Hughie:

"The evidence is right here; anyone who isn't blind can see it."

"It looks like the Supes in this world, including those shitty Superheroes, are nothing more than Vought's experiments. Oh, this is truly big news."

Butcher was in the middle of exclaiming when suddenly, the door was violently kicked open, and several guards in ordinary suits walked in, carrying guns.

"Hey!! What are you doing?!"

"Oh, shit…!"

Seeing the strangers in the room, the guards yelled, then, without any intention of asking their identities, they immediately pulled the trigger.

Butcher was quick, pulling Hughie behind a pillar in the room.

The next moment, bullets rained down on the pillar where the two were hiding.

Da da da da—

"Damn it!"

Butcher hadn't expected the guards to arrive so quickly, nor had he expected these people to open fire without a word, clearly intending to leave no survivors.

But the more agitated the guards reacted, the more certain Butcher became that the evidence he found must be crucial to Vought.

Now, they just needed to find a way to leave here so the CIA could deal with Vought, and that damned… Homelander!

However, how to leave here was a problem for Butcher.

He only had one pistol, and Hughie wasn't very good with a gun either.

Or rather, who would have thought before coming that a mere ordinary hospital would have so many armed guards?

If he had known, Butcher perhaps should have brought Marvin, or Frenchie would have worked too.

So now… what to do?

The bullet rain outside hammered against the pillar where the two were hiding, and Butcher's mind raced, thinking of a countermeasure.

And when he glanced at the infant in the specially made glass, he suddenly had an idea.

Perhaps… he could use the 'little princess' inside as a weapon?

Butcher's idea was bold, and if nothing went wrong, this move of his should be quite effective.

But before Butcher could put his idea into action, the guards who were firing outside suddenly screamed:

"Ah!!"

"Who is it!? Ah!!"

Screams and several ear-splitting thuds rang out, followed by complete silence outside.

Butcher and Hughie exchanged glances, and Hughie tentatively poked his head out to look.

After a careful look, he suddenly gasped:

"He's… Kevin?!"

"WTF!?"

Hughie's gasp made Butcher instinctively curse, and he instantly left the pillar to look outside.

Indeed, among the unconscious guards, he saw Kevin, wearing black-rimmed glasses, and the recently renowned Starlight.

The two stood side by side, Starlight staring intently behind Butcher and Hughie, not looking at them.

She was only looking at the Super Baby behind the two of them.

And Kevin clapped his hands, his gaze leaving the guards he had knocked out with a 'headbutt' on the ground, and turning to Hughie.

Seeing Hughie again, Kevin seemed to sigh helplessly:

"It's you again, Hughie. I really hope next time we meet, it can be a bit more normal."

This was Hughie and Kevin's fourth meeting.

This meeting was also not pleasant.

...

Following Butcher and Hughie here, after the guards entered the ward, Kevin followed them in and knocked out the guards.

With these minor matters taken care of, Kevin looked at Hughie, then at Annie, who seemed completely lost, and sighed again.

Hughie and Butcher were right in front of her, but Annie seemed to ignore these two potential criminals.

All her attention was drawn to the infant behind them.

Hughie and Butcher were a bit confused as to why Kevin and Annie were here, but seeing that Kevin had no intention of arresting them, Butcher gave Hughie a subtle look.

Hughie was initially startled, looking at Butcher with some confusion.

It wasn't until Butcher gestured towards Kevin with his eyes that Hughie understood something and immediately said to Kevin:

"Uh… Kevin…"

"Don't say anything."

But before Hughie could speak, Kevin raised his hand to interrupt him.

Kevin took a deep breath and pointed to the door nearby:

"Now, don't stay here. Leave my sight immediately before I change my mind."

Kevin harbored no ill will towards The Boys' protagonists.

After all, given the current situation, their stances were basically consistent.

Kevin's conflict with Homelander was inevitable, and if they truly had to face off in the future, then the help of The Boys would be indispensable.

Becoming their enemy was meaningless.

Kevin showed no hostility, and Billy Butcher naturally could see that.

He temporarily lowered his guard against Kevin and Annie, preparing to leave with Hughie.

But at this moment, Annie seemed to react, as if asking Kevin, or perhaps muttering to herself:

"…Aren't… we chosen?"

Hearing these words, Butcher stopped, and with a rather ill-mannered tone, said:

"Apparently, madam, this is all just a conspiracy by Vought…"

"I told you to get out."

A slightly cold voice came from beside the two.

It was Kevin.

Kevin didn't care why Butcher was saying these things to Annie at the moment; perhaps he just wanted to increase Annie's resentment towards Vought, or perhaps he was simply being a jerk by saying that.

In any case, Kevin didn't want Butcher to disturb Annie at this moment.

He dropped his previous friendliness and coldly ordered Butcher and Hughie to leave.

Butcher didn't get angry at the words; he gave Kevin a seemingly friendly smile and met his gaze:

"From the current situation, it seems we are not enemies. I think we might be able to cooperate."

Butcher was someone who could pick up and let go.

When he noticed that Kevin and Annie were also here for Compound V, Butcher immediately realized that this might be an opportunity to get close to The Seven.

Regardless of whether Kevin and Starlight were as two-faced as Butcher thought, at least for now, Butcher believed they were potential collaborators.

It was precisely because he realized this that Butcher chose to stay and talk to Kevin.

He also tore a page from the duty roster nearby and left their contact information on it:

"If you want to cooperate, you can call this number. This is Hughie's phone."

"What? Mine?"

Hughie hadn't expected Butcher to leave his phone number, and for a moment, his expression was a bit bewildered.

Butcher, however, didn't explain to him. After leaving the number, he quickly took Hughie and left the intensive care unit.

Only Kevin and Annie remained in the room.

But Annie probably didn't even notice the two leaving, perhaps not even noticing the other two people in the room from beginning to end.

Her eyes were only on the infant, the infant who had been injected with Compound V and had become a Super Baby.

"So there's no God at all, and I was never chosen. I…"

Annie's breathing was rapid, her heavy gasps sounding like a malfunctioning bellows.

Kevin knew that this was respiratory distress caused by Annie's overly agitated state, so he grabbed Annie's shoulder, forcibly distorted her gaze away, and prevented her from continuing to look at the infant in the cradle:

"Annie, calm down, deep breaths… Yes, deep breaths! We can discuss these issues later. Now, we need to leave here. Will you leave with me first, okay?"

Although Vought's security had been knocked out by Kevin.

But more reinforcements might come later, and it wasn't safe to stay here.

Moreover, they already knew the 'truth,' so there was no point in staying here anymore.
