Gar sat in his office, lost in thought. As much as he wanted to get back at the Skyes for all the times Philip harassed him, it would be a big mistake. The Skyes had declared war against Gar, but if Gar started the war, it would be bad. But it's not like he had a choice, the system had already given him the quest and he must complete it.
He thought of possible ways to complete the quests without consequences while reviewing the status window, but every possible scenario he thought of, ended in a bad way. The system had put Gar in a tough spot, one that would be very hard to leave.
Emily's eyes lingered on the window, watching Gar's car disappear into the distance. She couldn't shake off the feeling that he was hiding something from her. Ever since he woke up from the coma, he had been different. The way he carried himself, the way he spoke, everything seemed calculated, as if he were hiding a secret.
She turned to Rory, who was still smiling, the Citibank card clutched in her hand.
"Mom, do you know what's going on with Gar?" Emily asked, her voice laced with concern.
Rory's smile faltered for a moment before she regained her composure.
"What do you mean, dear?" Rory asked, feigning innocence.
"I mean, he's been acting strange. And that black card... I've never seen anything like it," Emily pressed.
Rory waved her hand dismissively.
"Oh, that's just Gar being Gar. He's always been a bit of a mystery, even to me." Rory chuckled.
Emily wasn't convinced. She knew her mother didn't care if Far was hiding anything; the money was what she was interested in.
Meanwhile, Gar drove through the city, his mind racing with the system's new quests. He needed to focus on taking down the Skye family, but his thoughts kept drifting back to Emily's suspicious gaze.
Gar reviewed his missions and thought of ways to acquire a significant asset for Skye Enterprise. He did a Google search and learned that Skye Realty was one of the most important properties the Skyes owned. He began to think of how to get it, and thoughts ran through his mind, but all his ideas were no good.
He knew the only way to get a Skye property was from a Skye. He browsed through his computer and stumbled on a photo, the young woman's name was Regina Skye, and she was a cousin to Philip. Gar immediately thought to communicate to with Regina.
Though he lost his memories, some nights, he had dreamt of his past encounters with Philip and how he mentioned a 'Regina' whom he never got along with.
Garfield thought to reach out to her the next day. That night, he went to a luxurious hotel where he sat at the bar having Scotch whiskey, his eyes scanning the lobby. Coincidentally, he spotted Regina Skye, sitting alone and sipping a glass of Bourbon.
Gar approached her, his presence commanding attention.
"Regina." Gar said, his voice low and confident. "Garfield Heights. The man who challenged a Skye." Regina's gaze narrowed, her expression a mix of curiosity and hostility. "What do you want?" She asked.
"That sounds a little impolite, don't you think?" Gar answered. "Well, not all of us had a good day. " She said and took a sip from her glass.
Gar maintained his smile and spoke up, "Straight to the point then, I guess.", He cleared his throat, "I'm interested in acquiring an asset that belongs to Skye Enterprise.". "Oh really?" Regina scoffed with displeasure. "Yes, you know, I thought about media, but I already have an art gallery in my possession. Technology, it's not my thing. But Skye Realty, I have my eyes on that." Gar explained.
Regina raised an eyebrow. "Now, Philip is a selfish, ignorant and stupid son of a bitch, but you're out of your mind if you think for a second that Jonathan would ever sell that?"
"I'm not asking Jonathan, am I? Gar replied, his eyes locked on hers.
Regina's expression shifted. "Color me intrigued. But what on earth makes you think I'll secretly sell off a Skye property?" Regina asked. "Well, I know you and Philip don't get along." Gar replied. "Hmm, you don't know anything about me or my family." Regina said, a hint of anger in her eyes.
"I know you and your 'so-called family' you don't care about. Yes, my memory was fractured, but I've had recurring nightmares of my encounter with Philip and he always talked about how I remind him of his cousin Regina, weak and worthless to him." Gar explained.
"You don't care about the family or the business. Your fortune isn't from it. So, how about you earn a little token by selling the realty to me?" Gar told. "What do you need a realty for?" Regina asked. "That's for me and the Gambit to know." Gar added.
"Fine, how much are you willing to offer?" Regina inquired. "Name your price." Gar replied. With a stunned look, Regina continued, "I don't know anything about realty, but $5 million will do."
"How bout we step down a bit to $2 million?"Gar asked. Regina scoffed, "It's 5 million."Regina said. "3.5, take it or leave it." Gar stared into Regina's eyes with a smirk on his face. "Look, pal, you're the one who needs the realty, not me. $5 million? I can get in an instant. But the realty, once I pass on this deal, you've lost your chance." Regina explained.
"Fair enough." Gar replied. "Bring the documents to the Gambit at noon tomorrow, $5 million will be wired to your account by then." Gar added, shook hands with Regina, and they both went their separate ways.
The next day, Regina arrived at the Gambit, a sleek briefcase in hand. Gar greeted her with a nod, his assistant producing the documents.
After signing the documents, Gar handed her a secure phone. "For our future transactions."
Regina pocketed the phone, her eyes locked on Gar's. "This isn't the end of our partnership, Mr. Heights."
Gar smiled, a hint of intrigue in his eyes. "Definitely not, Regina."
As Regina left with the $5 million wired to her account, Gar's thoughts turned to the next phase of his plan.
