Zeta was on the garage floor, with parts of an engine scattered around her. Eder spotted this coming in from out back. She had an employee's badge on her lapel.
Zeta: You found the drones.
Edgar: Yeah, they were messing around in the basement; logic didn't mention there was one.
Logic: You never asked.
Edgar glanced over the parts on the floor. Then, to a group of parts combined on the desk, Zeta claimed.
Edgar: What are you up to?
Logic produced a 3d blueprint in the bio-field.
Zeta: Logic, and I spotted this engine hanging out of one of the cars out back while surveying the area. We then had an idea for an extension to the high gear armor.
Edgar rubbed her chin in thought.
Edgar: interesting then I'll have to hold on to your gear riser a little longer.
She said holding up the gear riser she had in her hand.
Logic: so were you able to remove the tracking device.
She nodded at the question.
Edgar: yes, but also if you're going to start making upgrades to the armor then I'm going to need to modify the armor itself to be more compatible with these types of upgrades. And while I'm at it, I might as well give it some updates too. Can't have the system lagging on you when trying out new gear in the field. Also how are you feeling zeta.
Zeta looked at her hands while remembering what had happened earlier today. Edgar escorted her to the generator real or rather the large generator with chords feeding into the building in different directions.
Edgar did an inspection on the machine then instructed zeta to power it up using her stored energy. He's either refused advising that in order to do that to keep Edgar safe, she'd have to power up using the armor which has a tracking device on it. Edgar not as an understanding and then collected the gear Riser of storing the armor saying that she would deal with the tracker and told her to do it anyways.
Zeta refused explaining it's too risky with all the excess energy astray lightning bolt could strike her. But Edgar insisted she was fine showing zeta her necklace. Apparently it's a device made by her father before he went into space it's a force-field device he was using to protect from any stray solar flares she said there are 16 barriers to protectors.
Is it annoyed at this and then transformed into gearion form. Zeta was different than how she looked wearing the high gear Armor her body was a lavender instead of a deep indigo purple. Her hair was not as slick back and instead it was more messy and splayed like a mullet and she had an anxious it expression on her face.
Edgar waved her hands at zeta to go on for which she held out both hands producing an arc of lightning which traveled into the machine and generator started running and late. Started to turn on while doing so of field of electromagnetic energy started a form around zeta causing her body to lift off the ground.
Edgar took a slight interest in the floating zeta but instead shifted her focus to the generator. Trying to figure out why the power wasn't coming through. She then spotted a damaged wire leading to the power lines. She left the generator room for a bit and went back into the main area. She came back with a fuke cables she likely got from the boxes that we're taking from the lab with swift hands. She manage to repair the cable allowing for the machine till I'm without zeta's power.
By the end of the whole thing, zeta was genuinely exhausted as if she had done a bunch of exercise recently.
Edgar observed zeta who appeared as if she was genuinely out of breath.
After recalling all that zeta responded.
Zeta: yeah, I'm starting to feel better according to logic because of my gearion DNA being more prominent than my human DNA harnessing the energy approach is far more work than walking then moving around and doing exercise which basically just helps me with producing energy.
Hedger knotted then looked back at the desk.
Edgar: good but what does that thing on your desk have to do with what you're making.
The three of them looked at what appeared to be the handlebar from a motorcycle attached to a random assortment of parts from an engine.
Zeta: well, while we were working on this project, instinct said that.
Instinct: eye gear needs a sword. All badasses have a sword. You ain't cool enough.
A glare caught on Edgar's glasses concealing her eyes as if reflecting age-old wisdom.
Edgar: he is truly right. But where is the blade.
Cuz I get appointed at a door over across the garage with the lights displaying in use glowing.
Zeta: logic has the drones making it. Apparently there's 's equipment good enough for foraging in that room. I wanted to make it myself, but logic insisted that I'm too young and have not been trained for foraging.
The four of them continued working with Edgar occasionally. Instructing the drones on building the industrial generator. And mainly focusing on producing upgrades for the high gear armor while zeta along with logic and instinct finishing the sword and working out the plans for the engine.
At one point they had to stop because it was starting to get dark and as far as the law is concerned, zeta is a teenager. They soon returned back the apartments where a surprise was waiting at the front door of the building.
It was Valerie waiting on the steps of the building. The two got out of the car and Valerie immediately walked up to zeta.
Valerie; you are all pretty late.
Zeta: I'm learning engineering. It's a rigorous process.
Valerie nodded at that statement and then looked over at Edgar wearing a brunette wig to hide her identity in case motor City affiliates are hanging around.
Valerie: and you must be sprocket's ex-wife that Marin told me about.
She said in an uncaring tone but hadn't a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
Edgar and zeta looked at each other. Edgar then looked at Valerie.
Edgar: yep, I heard about his death and felt bad for leaving little zeta on her own. Figured I'd come out and look after her for a bit. Make sure she's all right.
Zeta didn't say anything but nodded. Meanwhile, her mind shot up in admiration for Edgar's ability to adapt in any given situation.
Zeta: yeah the other day she messaged me saying that she's about to open up a shop nearby and was looking for an apprentice. I figured got nothing better going on. Might as well take the opportunity for a future career.
Edgar smiled and nodded at the on the fly excuse they made. Then she spotted through the window of the door to the building Marin hiding slightly by the entrance. She gave him a settled layer without breaking her facade.
Valerie: that's nice and all but listen closely. Zeta my mother is getting persistent. She really wants you here for the dinner at my place this weekend. So don't forget Sunday. Meet me first thing in the morning next Junior wardrobe. It's not going to fly that woman's judgmental and callouses all things. She knows what you've got going currently. Will have a new plan, new clothes and a new look. We're not going to let her beat us.
Zeta was mildly confused about why it sounded like a simple dinner with family? Seems to be more of a battlefield laced with hostility.
Logic: just go along with it. That'll be interesting and I guarantee you will have fun.
Zeta and United at Valerie per logics instruction.
Valerie: good girl, see you Sunday.
She said then walked over into the parking lot hopped on her motorcycle. Started the engine and then drove off. Edgar did not break her subtle glare from Aaron who was hiding behind the door.
Zeta: I think I want a motorcycle.
Logic: I get the feeling you're starting to want to mirror her and from what I've observed from parenting blogs, even if she is your mother, she's not that ideal person to be a role model for you.
Then Marin realizing the storm may have passed, slowly walks out to greet zeta and try to avoid Edgar's wrath
Marilyn: hey zeta.
Mia: zeta you just get home.
Mia walked up zeta who was standing outside the building with Edgar and Marin. Edgar started to realize that things were going south but tried to escape only to be grabbed by the arrest. He looked back to see Edgar stopping him from retreating.
Zeta: Mia what are you doing here.
Mia: did you forget you? Texted me yesterday saying that you would need to reschedule.
Zeta pulled out her phone spot of the text and then gave a somewhat hidden glance to logic who shook her head in response to the idea of sending that text.
Instinct: yeah that was me. Figured you didn't want to stand her up so I did the right thing and rescheduled good thing we made it back.
Zeta looked back at the two adults who had clear tension building between them. She thought about sticking around and seeing what happened and didn't like it.
Zeta: sure, you came just in time. Let's go to my room.
She pushed Mia by the shoulders into the building. Marion tried to stop her reaching out but couldn't get close enough with Edgar holding him in place.
