Chapter 20 - Saviour

HAZEL'S POV.

"This is a very risky thing to do, Your Grace!" A raspy voice yelled as the men chased me down. "Turn yourself in and we promise not to hurt you. We don't want to hurt you, but we have been given the authority to do so if you make this hard for us!"

I wondered how he managed to speak clearly under such an immense amount of pressure. I didn't listen to him and continued running, even though I knew they were surely going to catch up to me very soon. They had already surrounded me, and what separated us wasn't big anymore. The sound of their feet on the earth as they got closer was deafening.

That was the moment it happened, it happened so fast that it took me some time to register it. In a flash, the men who were chasing me were pushed by three large wolves. They crashed violently before the wolves killed one of Lism's warriors while the rest fought back skillfully. After some time, they turned and I immediately headed for the deep woods.

I ran through a serpentine road before I emerged behind a creek in the open night. The full moon was out, and the scattered trees and dark stretch of endless expanse gave me the fright. I had run for hours and now it was already night. I couldn't imagine being chased by those monsters in here.

I shouldn't waste more time. I'm sure those bastards are still on their way. They won't stop at anything unless they find their Luna. I was soon accustomed to the darkness because of my heightened eyesight, so it wasn't a problem finding my way through the woods and escaping.

I found it extra hard and painful to run after running for hours. My clothes were torn at the helm and my hair was a mess."Your Grace!" I heard a voice from the woods. They were still searching for me.

I started running once again. I was hoping that without finding me they would return back to Liam and everything would be okay, but I was horribly wrong. I was still running, intermittently imagining the consequences of being caught by Liam's men when another blood-curdling scream pierced the air. It sent a shiver down my spine, and I felt my head swell. I didn't need to think before I knew I should pick up my pace and run even harder.

Just immediately, I began to hear heavy footsteps thundering towards me. They were far away for sure, but I knew I had been detected. I pushed myself to run faster but I was starting to feel tired. I had been running the whole night, from escaping my pack and now running from the only place that gave me a semblance of peace.

Also, my body had been enduring prolonged abuse and oppression from Liam, which factored in my being physically frail and lacking strength in my wolf form. It wasn't long before the beasts caught up to me. They were in their wolf forms, so it wasn't so surprising.

I continued running until I reached a stream. The guard hesitated for a moment and suddenly turned to the left. I followed suit, but the sudden swerve made me lose my footing and crash on the shore. I got up but the breath had been knocked out of me. I was breathing heavily as I turned and continued running, but something tripped me, causing me to fall. I glanced back to see what had tripped me, and was shocked to see the guard kneeling behind me, shivering with fear. He was staring at something.

I felt my blood chill as I followed his line of sight, and that's when I saw it! I had been surrounded!! The wolves slowly made their way towards me, and changed into their human forms as soon as they reached. I instantly recognized them as trackers from my Pack. They were frothing with anger as they approached me.

I threw myself back on the floor and I got up immediately and tried running but crashed into a wall. It must have felt like a wall, but it wasn't really a wall, it was in fact one of the trackers who had a frame of a wall- burly and huge.

He pushed me back on the floor harshly. I felt scared, worried, tired and angry. I felt so angry that I couldn't help but stare at them in anger.

As the anger grew, I suddenly felt an urge to attack. There was something burning deep within, and as it grew, I felt a surge of power. Looking at them, I had the urge to tear their face off.

"Leave me alone!" I yelled at them but it sounded so deep, almost like a growl. The anger kept boiling within me as I backed against a tree. I fetched a handful of soil in my hand and I threw it at the face of the leader who was close to me. He hissed as the soil got into his eyes.

"Get her!" Their leader yelled in command, snarling at me.

Two of them immediately longed to grab my arm but I quickly dodged, getting up instantly. Fired up and scared, I started running again. I felt a sudden but strange surge of power as I ran now. It was unlike anything I'd ever experienced.

It felt as if a dormant force within me had been awakened, and my whole body was pulsing with a different energy. I couldn't understand the whole thing fully. I suddenly stopped running and turned to look at them as they approached. With a clenched fist, I waited for them. It felt like something had gained control over my body and as they neared, the fear I felt was gone. I was only filled with anger that burned through my veins.

However, I felt something moving fast in the forest, causing them to pause and look around cautiously.

A familiar voice growled from behind. The leader was about to turn when he was attacked by sharp claws which slit his throat. He fell heavily behind me and that was when I saw him, Colton.

"W- what are you doing here?" I asked, but before he could say anything, one of the trackers interrupted.

"I can assure you that you're making a big mistake here, Colton!" The man growled, calling Colton by his name.

"Fight me first, and if you win then I'll let you idiots take on a defenseless woman." He thundered at them, then in the gentle voice he used to speak to me "Hazel, stay behind me. I'll take care of this."

The men immediately shifted and attacked, and he did the same, shifting into his large wolf before the fight began. I found a spot to hide and dashed into it, hoping they hadn't seen me. Colton launched at the rest. His sharp claws grabbed them by the furr while they fought back. Soon blood splashed around the whole place and I moved back in utter fear. I could hear the loud screams and they were coming from the trackers. The fight quickly shifted in Colton's favor and he was fighting with all his strength.

He got a few deep cuts that made me gasp in fear but he appeared unmoved by the cuts and still fought back without rest. It only proved his experience in the battles.

After a few minutes however, the whole place went silent. The silence was broken by a whimpering wolf.

Scared, I raised my head and turned to the direction of the soft whimper, but what caught my attention was the number of dead bodies lying around. The trackers were all dead, and Everett was bleeding from the wounds inflicted on him.He knelt there with his head down while trying to catch his breath. He was in his human form and the place looked like a bloodbath. His clothes were covered with blood and his wounds kept bleeding.

I stared in shock, unable to digest the fact that he had saved me. I never thought he would come so unexpectedly to fight for me. He looked so angry early that I felt compelled to do as he said.

I attempted to walk towards him but I stopped in my tracks, contemplating if I should approach him or just leave him be. There was that dark aura around him that was both terrifying and spellbinding as he knelt there in pain.

Amidst my thoughts I saw him raising his head to look at me and the look in his eyes was just…

I could find the proper words for it but I found myself running towards him without a moment or delay.
