Evelyn's POV

I stood there, frozen in place, staring at Aiden as his words hung in the air.

"It was my father," he said again, quieter this time. "It was my father who hurt Lisa… not me."

For a heartbeat, I thought I'd misheard him.

I shook my head, taking a step back. "No," I said, almost to myself. "No, you're lying. You're just trying to shift the blame from yourself, Aiden. You men are all the same, when things get ugly, you twist the story until you come out the victim."

He didn't flinch at my words, but there was something behind his eyes, a deep, weary sadness that I didn't understand.

"Evelyn...."

"Don't," I snapped, cutting him off. "Clara saw it with her own eyes. She said she saw Lisa coming out of your room wounded and crying! Do you know what that means, Aiden? She saw you hurt her. She saw it!"

He shook his head slowly, his expression hard to read. "Clara didn't see everything."
