Prologue

...the known is finite, the unknown is infinite...

(Thomas Henry Huxley, Letters and Diary 1887)

During 0505 and 0606 G.C year...

In the endless universe, between Earth and Mars, there were the mysterious planets Syrinx and Scylla. They were deeply hidden among the stardust and clouds. Miniature to the human naked eye, they were places where unusual creatures lived. Their inhabitants were identical to humans. There were slight differences in physical appearance and abilities. They had a silvery skin color and naturally different eye and hair colors, and their body structure was similar to that of a human. They spoke much slower than a normal human. They learned quickly and were stronger and more durable. They also differed from humans in other features that reflect their unusual lives.

The planets Syrinx and Scylla were very strange because they were almost joined together. The secret of this optical illusion lies in the small distance of light-years between them and some mysterious phenomenon in which stardust, with its force, occasionally merges them into one.

The residents have fostered a sense of unity for many years. Proximity to the Earth provides them with almost the same conditions for life as humans. They have land plants and buildings whose architecture has many similarities with that of Earth.

Their proximity to Mars, which has favorable conditions for survival, gives them the ability to live almost the same life as an ordinary human. But these two planets will forever remain a mystery to the human population due to the tense events that preceded their history...

Chapter 1.

„... yet who can measure the sum between in the vast universe, of two lovers and what is between..."

(Eric Overby, Senses)

During 0808 G. C year...

It was a year of war...

The battle that was fought on both planets began with a quarrel between the inhabitants. A strong desire to separate and appropriate the territory of the opponent that would bring them complete independence gave rise to a state of war. Soon after the war was declared, they divided the inhabitants according to their planetary affiliation. Severe verbal and physical confrontations were fought. They spilled huge amounts of the black liquid that circulates through their bodies. Syrinx's inhabitants suffered a defeat. This caused negative emotions that would significantly affect the entire cosmos.

Orion, a seventeen-year-old boy, as a resident of Scylla, chooses the side of Syrinx, thus becoming the only traitor to his people. Such a decision begins to forever arouse hatred towards him, in the hearts of the inhabitants of the planet he belonged to. But Orion was not affected at all because he was an extremely cold creature. He didn't care if anyone hated him.

He was tall and had a perfectly built body that left many breathless. Thick and extremely soft black hair fell over his eyes and tiny ears. It revealed the central part of his forehead with a perfectly symmetrical parting. That division indicated a mysterious moon-shaped mark. His eyes were a strong shade of black, and that made him even more enveloped in the darkness he had always radiated. He always had a serious and mysterious expression on his face.

He was rude, brash, and aloof. He had a remarkably mature mindset for a seventeen-year-old. Furthermore, he spent his time in solitary battle with heavy thoughts. They pressed on his fragile and tender heart, which he had always hidden from others. The remedy for that agony was training. He worked on himself and his knowledge.

His struggle began with the breakup of his family. It began to represent a bullet for him, which, from moment to moment, penetrated deeper and deeper into the layers of his skin and was unbearably painful for his being. His father was turning into a beast that slowly destroyed everything in front of him. He became a murderer and a bully. He made life difficult for his mother and gradually for himself. The beginning of Orion's opposition to his father and defense was the beginning of even greater ruin and torture for him, but also the beginning of even greater suffering for his mother. All of this was a trigger for the struggle, initially for his mother and then for himself. Not long after, she left him, leaving him in the house with that vicious monster. She left him without a single word and hope that she would come back for him. It beat him down and returned him to a dark hole, from which he managed to get out with great effort. She was his best friend and the only person he had by his side. Then, all that warmth he possessed, because of her and her motherly love, disappeared and left a painful mark, which became a burden. A burden that made him cold, closed and unfeeling. He was under the pressure of constant torture and violence. Constantly busy with new studies, he distances himself from everything, being completely alone. With each contact with other creatures, he manifested his coldness more and more. He was arrogant and cold, with hatred in his heart for everyone.

However, there was that one creature in the entire universe, for whom his hatred was relegated to the star clouds. Arabella, a creature much shorter than him, suppressed the hatred that was burning within him. Their first meeting happened in a passage on the boulevard.

He thought about her for days, and about her seductive purple eyes, as well as the moon mark on her forehead. It was quite similar to his own and complemented it. That tiny detail, hidden by her stepped and thick bangs, distracted him. She and he were the only ones who possessed it on these two planets. All this created warmth in his cold creature. For the first time, he felt the touch of some deeper emotions that his heart persistently tried to deny. He thought he was being possessed by just another stupid illusion that would destroy him again and just disappear like that. Then, he turned all those emotions into a completely different hatred, much stronger, which is only there to unsuccessfully prevent him from loving her.

She is more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, her and mine are the same.

( Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights)

Chapter 2.

Present time (1010 G.C. year)

The war is largely over. The bloodshed has come to an end. Many creatures doubted it. A truce has been made. The planet Scylla has won. The inhabitants of Syrinx, as losers, were exiled to the nearby planet Silvanus, while the inhabitants of Scylla could now live on both Syrinx and Scylla. With this decision, the losers and winners parted ways peacefully. The inhabitants of Scylla, as winners, received valuable privileges. They devised a strategy that would further improve them and thus introduced several changes in their way of life. The old people remained on Scylla. After moving to Syrinx, the seventeen-year-old was expected to start a new, fully independent life. This plan laid great hope for the younger generations, who would also work on improving the planet with their stay.

Two years have passed since the end of the war that brought changes for many. Young generations of Scylla began life on Syrinx. Since none of them knew what to do next, they should start by choosing their leader. Someone who will manage the planet and make various decisions and laws and thereby regulate order on the planet. Quite complexly, they chose Arabella for that position. It was a huge change for her. She met all the requirements for a good ruler and had the appropriate characteristics. She was an intelligent, capable, and wise creature. Furthermore, she loved to read various books and enjoyed it. While reading, she constantly escaped into her own world, which she tried to create in reality as well. She was engaged in various research projects. She mostly studied the planet Earth and the people on it. She also gets the motivation to resume drawing, which has always relaxed her.

She was an introverted creature. Closed off to others, she gives the impression of coldness, but when you come into contact with her, you get a completely different impression. That was one of the reasons why they wanted her as a leader, because a good leader has discipline in everything. Although she was only seventeen years old, she possessed good views and understandings of the cosmos and the environment, which gave her another predisposition to be a leader. Her closedness did not prevent her from building a good relationship with everyone. As the leader of the planet, she performed her duties with the entire population, taking into account their opinions and attitudes.

During her free time, as usual, she sat under the sakura tree. This time she was deeply engrossed in thoughts, which had been overwhelming her for several days. The moonlight gently caressed her silvery skin, giving her a feeling of warmth that she hadn't felt in a long time. But that didn't manage to drive away the quieter thoughts. She thought about her life before the war. A life filled with children's play, parental security, and non-existent problems. The age when she had all the love and support of her parents and when her heart could still feel that kind of love. She was now a third of a light-minute away from them.

She was deeply hurt by the fact that she had completely lost contact with these dear creatures, all too quickly and unexpectedly. Contact between the two planets could only be achieved in some official situations or on some extraordinary visits. Travel between them was rare.

Having arrived at this unexpected position, she understood what had been incomprehensible to her all along. She realized that she was slowly entering the world of adults. She became aware that the fate of the younger generation lay in her hands. She entered that world completely unprepared, left to herself. She became more aware of that world. Her problems, downfalls, worries, and difficult moments became more numerous. She overcame all of this quite well. She kept it to herself, deep in her heart.

She thought about them constantly because they gave her a sense of connection and recognition. She had heard many rumors about him. Most of them were in bad shape. They said that he was a traitor, that he was too arrogant and selfish, and that he was an extremely cold creature with thug behavior. The old people despised him and considered him extremely strange, as well as her, because of that sign of the moon. That detail, which she immediately noticed on his forehead, distracted her. Especially now, when he appeared so unexpectedly in her thoughts.

After a few days, she decided to visit her friend Liv. She regained her good mood and relaxed enough. Liv has been her best friend since childhood. They were very close and almost inseparable. To her, she represents the sister she never had, even though she wasn't part of Arabella's family line at all. She belonged to the people of Syrinx. At the age of two, she moved to a small house, not far from Arabella. She lived there only with her father. Her parents divorced because things didn't work out between them. And so she was left to her dad. He came from the planet Scylla and already had a house there that they moved into. Liv's father was a very good creature. He was Arabella's dad's best friend since childhood. Thanks to their friendship, Arabella and Liv met. From the first meeting until now, they built a stronger and stronger relationship. They had similar interests and hobbies and a peaceful friendship. Their friendship holds her together now that she has lost all contact with her parents. They were always there for each other. She missed her a lot during those lonely days. Outside, it was raining heavily, with shiny drops. Arabella decided to take a shortcut in order to get to Liv's house faster.

The shiny raindrops reflected on her skin, while she hurriedly moved to her friend's house. Rounding the corner of the library, she felt a collision with someone's strong chest. She raised her head and saw a boy, even two heads taller than her. In front of her stood Orion. Drops of shining rain fell on his perfectly built body. They lingered on his black, tousled hair and made it even more beautiful and shiny. A few drops fell on his sharp features, giving a gleam to his black eyes. Cold eyes measured every feature of Arabella's ravishing face as they stood in the rain, only inches apart.

- You know, you should pay a little more attention to the path of your movement! – said Orion.

- I am very careful about how I move - answered Arabella sharply.

- If you were careful about your path, as you just claimed, you wouldn't take shortcuts with such dangerous and unexpected angles.

– My movements are none of your business.

- I'm just presenting logical facts.

– Ugh, whatever, thought Arabella.

She started to go around him, but he skillfully set obstacles for her. – I would ask you to move away so I can pass! - she said sharply.

He stood beside her, giving her a cold look, as if she were transparent.

- You know, I don't have time for someone like you - she continued, looking darkly into his two darkest eyes. He walked past her, after giving her another look of disdain. He latched onto her shoulder and their shoulders brushed.

– Ugh, Arabella thought again. She continued on her way, soon reaching her destination. Liv warmly welcomed her into her home, where they began to exchange stories and events, to make up for lost time.
