Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Coveted Experiment

Empire State University, located in Upper Manhattan, is a prestigious Ivy League private school.

Upon entering the university, one can see the motto: "Strive for Excellence."

Gwen Stacy's grades were excellent, and she was admitted to the biology department there.

Levi Williams had 2B wait in the car, then entered the university with Gwen.

2B's gaze followed Levi, concerned for his safety, until he disappeared from sight.

The campus atmosphere in America was lively, with girls in short skirts and black stockings everywhere, proudly displaying their fair skin.

Of course, Levi directly skipped over the occasional darker-skinned person.

"University life is truly good," Levi sighed.

Gwen Stacy, hugging her bag and looking down at her toes as she walked, was bewildered when she heard this: "Huh?"

Levi glanced at the girl, who seemed lost in thought, and replied, "Nothing."

She certainly wouldn't understand the meaning of that sentence.

"Ding-a-ling!"

Soon, the bell rang.

Gwen let out an 'ah' and sped forward.

"Master, I'm going to class now."

She didn't forget to turn back and wave, almost tripping.

But she reacted extremely quickly, immediately supporting herself with one hand, as if 'crawling' forward.

High heels were still something she wasn't used to.

"Be careful!"

Levi called out, and then walked towards the laboratory.

Soon, he arrived at a biology laboratory.

"Knock, knock."

Levi knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" a muffled voice came from inside.

"Professor Connors, it's me," Levi said, and the door opened, and he was enthusiastically pulled inside.

Dr. Curtis Connors was once a military doctor, but he lost his right arm in the war, so after retiring, he devoted himself to researching limb regeneration technology.

Previously, Levi found him, promised to help him with his experiments, and brought him to New York, where he joined Empire State University and became a Professor.

This was mainly to leverage U.S. funding.

"Levi, you're here," Professor Connors enthusiastically pulled Levi with his single arm.

"I heard you were looking for me," Levi said.

"That's right, my experiment has reached a critical moment, but I feel it's not safe here," Professor Connors said.

"Oh?" Levi was puzzled.

"When I came in this morning, I found signs of disturbance in my lab," Professor Connors said with a grim expression. "Many people are watching our experiment, and I'm worried someone might be secretly causing trouble."

He led Levi to the disturbed area, where it was clear that the person who entered the lab was well-trained and obviously looking for data.

This was also Levi's fault; to gain popularity, he had sensationalized many experiments into news stories.

Professor Connors was researching a DNA serum containing genes from reptiles like lizards, which naturally generated a lot of buzz; even ordinary people were very interested in it, causing Professor Connors a great deal of psychological pressure.

If the experiment failed, he would be ridiculed across all of America.

Of course, if it succeeded, he would immediately become a celebrity scientist in the U.S.

How incredible would it be to allow people to regrow lost limbs?

This naturally attracted the covetousness of others, whether they were rivals or people with ulterior motives.

From many perspectives, the emergence of this serum would overturn many preconceived notions.

"Really? Then let's move the experiment to the company," Levi was also concerned, so he said, "By the way, Professor Connors, many people are watching the experiment now, so we must be foolproof."

"I know," Professor Connors nodded with a wry smile.

This was intentional on Levi's part.

Because he found that Professor Connors was very eager for quick results, a trait that could easily lead to a lack of rigor in experimental research.

So he hyped up the publicity, and sure enough, Professor Connors felt the psychological burden and dared not act recklessly.

"Moreover, Future Technology Company is researching a new technology that might be helpful for your experiment," Levi then said.

"Artificial intelligence?" Professor Connors knew that Levi had been hyping this topic recently, and Tony Stark had even been publicly debating him.

"That would indeed be effective."

Subsequently, Levi made a phone call, asking his company's security to come and move everything.

Levi was very cautious; after all, many people were envious of Future Technology, and this was America.

No matter how rich one was, if one didn't pay attention to personal safety, something could happen.

Tony Stark's parents were so wealthy, yet they were still assassinated.

Professor Connors immediately went to contact the university.

Anyway, the university would get a share of the results; they only cared about the prestige, so it didn't matter to them.

...

Half an hour later, Future Technology Company's security arrived.

Although they all had various prosthetics, and some even had metal plates on their faces, no one dared to underestimate them.

"Be careful," Professor Connors watched them carry the equipment and data upstairs.

Then, they were ready to depart.

They were all veterans, so they were well-prepared, and the escort at this time appeared orderly.

Levi quickly hailed Professor Connors to get into his car.

"Professor Connors, would you like to ride in my car?"

"No, I must be with my research findings," Professor Connors flatly refused.

In his eyes, probably nothing was more important than his research.

Levi didn't mind, he just took out his walkie-talkie and reminded, "Keep your eyes wide open!"

Professor Connors's laboratory was clearly being watched, so they had to be careful now.

"Yes, Master!" the security guards immediately replied.

Future Technology Company had given these veterans a second chance at life, and also provided security jobs, allowing them to support their families, so they would naturally fight to the death.

Soon, the convoy set off.

"All clear!"

"Vehicle two is still following, no suspicious individuals detected."

"Continue to be vigilant," Levi replied.

2B continued to drive the Maybach steadily, but this time, it was at the very back.

The vehicles continued to drive, and because there was a lot of traffic all the way, nothing happened.

This also made Levi breathe a sigh of relief; this was New York, so it wasn't that easy for something to go wrong.

Just then, 2B reminded, "Master, one car's movements are suspicious!"

Levi immediately looked left and right: "Which one?"

"In the adjacent lane at the intersection, heading towards us," 2B quickly replied; although she didn't use her eyes, it was as if her eyes were everywhere.

"Stop!"

Hearing 2B's words, Levi chose to trust her and immediately shouted.

The two transport vehicles in front immediately slammed on their brakes.

"Screech!"

After the two vehicles stopped, a tanker truck, a more terrifying presence than a fully-insured semi-trailer, indeed shot out from the right side of the intersection ahead.

Then it directly tipped over to the side.

"Boom!"

With a loud bang, passersby instinctively ran away, fearing the thing would explode.

And at the rear of the convoy, several transport vehicles immediately followed, directly surrounding Future Technology's two transport vehicles!
