Chapter 17 - Mending Broken Glass is Impossible

Written by **EYRAM**

The next day, both sisters went to school. Serena was rather nervous, not knowing how she would approach Lance, and there was Caspian, whom she had never called after their original encounter.

Luckily she did not meet him for most of the day but at lunch he was sitting at a table with Violet and for a change Seraphina was not clinging to him anymore, but what truly shocked Serena was that Seraphina did not tuck up her school top to look like a crop top, nor did she raise the skirt till it was indecently short, this was an improvement but she could tell the girl was sad.

She decided to put the boy drama on hold and try to sort things out with her sister. She sat directly next to her at lunch. At first, she did not say a word, but after noticing Seraphina ignored her presence, she said,

"Seraphina, why don't we just stop fighting? I miss the times we went shopping, clubbing, when not a single guy was in the picture, when we were happy."

"…"

"Seraphina, you could continue to give me the silent treatment, but just listen, don't respond, think about what I said, about guys, and look at how you are now, how you feel, should they have that much authority over you? Power to influence your decision?" Then Seraphina left the table and went to sit by Lance

"I am sorry about how I reacted to what you said the other day. I feel guilty for how I treated you; I should not have judged you for the actions of someone just because they gave birth to you."

"I can't stay mad at you, and I'm sure you also know that."

"Yeah, but about Violet, does she…"

"Yeah, since she first met Seraphina, um, Violet, can you excuse us for a little bit?"

She left, not saying a word, but looking terrified.

"What happened was years ago when she was just thirteen, I think, she was caught by a cult then raped before she was shot, but before she died I found her, knocking on deaths door and turned her into a Seer, she can practically see glimpses of the future and past alike, and that was how she knew about you before you came, though she never saw this future, probably because when we know it's going to happen and we act differently it changes the future"

"Okay, I think I get it. The reason you let her go is to prevent her from reliving such a memory."

"yeah"

"But now coming to think of it, you seem to be around a lot of raped girls and women."

"Do not push it, my mom hated me since the day I came into this world, even though I mostly look like her, and I don't even know how she would treat me if she remembered my dad's face every time she looked at me, so I kind of felt obligated to help women like that."

"Now I feel horrible. I do not know what to say, but you do know we are half-siblings."

"Yeah, I am aware."

"And my sister is head over heels for you."

"I know what you're playing at…"

"Just let me finish, I have not developed any feelings for you, so I won't go out with you."

"I'm willing to wait, and I promise, I'm not so hard to love."

"But I am hard to love."

"Don't start with the it's not you, it's me. I know you much more than you think. Just relax and let me win you over."

*Sigh* So much for it, Lance was so easy to talk to, Caspian seemed way less overwhelming now. Then the bell rang, and she decided to postpone Caspian's call to much later based on everything she was going through; she did not need more drama.

Then, on the way, Seraphina stopped her and said,

"Thank you."

Then left, now Serena was just confused. Did someone do something in her name to make peace between them? I mean, what kind of gift would just take someone out of the silent treatment to thank them?

Serena quickly got out of her thoughts and rushed to class, not wanting to stand out; she did not answer any questions till she was compelled to. Now, standing out in class was just another thing that might attract a guy she was not into at all. And almost like the universe was against her, a cute-looking guy with Pitch black hair and eyes to go with it stopped her and asked.

"Would you care to go out sometime?"

"No! And don't try to convince me I'm serious."

"Hi, serious, I'm Jamien, and I'm into shy, cute girls just like you."

This guy was getting on her last nerves. Turns out, if she answered a lot of questions in class, Lance would fall for her. When she was quiet, there was this guy, and when she was all dressed up, there was Caspian. Things were getting overcomplicated already, and she did not need another flirt in her contacts.

"Wait, that Jamien?"

"The one famed to be a playboy, oh, I'm sorry, but you can't get mine on me," he smiled mischievously and said,

"So, you don't like this?" he placed his hands on her shoulder, and she stepped on his foot.

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I do not."

He held his foot, feeling it was mushed in his shoe, and screamed like a banshee, holding on to it

"Next time pick on someone your own size" She hated guys like him and just felt great after turning his feet to mush, but that joy was short lived, she quickly remembered all the other things she had to deal with and how much bigger time was making them, moreover she was practically a wanted criminal for Vampires and even other Dhampirs, those in the keepers of light.
