Chapter 84 - Chapter 84: Bloody fireworks, blooming. This is art

Iron Man and the others—Garfield and Holland—watched Maguire with mounting anxiety.

The next second, Maguire lowered his cigar. A gust swept past—and he vanished before their eyes.

People stared, stunned. What just happened? Where did Maguire go?

High above, Obadiah soared along, feeling smug—until a figure appeared right in front of him: Maguire in the black battle suit. Obadiah nearly felt his heart leap out of his chest.

An overwhelming force slammed into him like a collapsing mountain. Before he could react, his body was hurled straight down toward the ground.

Boom.

On the street, Iron Man and the others gaped at the sight: a massive shape fell from the sky, kicked up a cloud of dust, and hit like a meteor. When the air cleared, they finally saw what it was—Iron Monger. The once-imposing suit now looked like a pile of mangled scrap. Obadiah lay inside, groaning nonstop.

"What on earth happened? Why did he just drop out of nowhere? And where's Maguire?"

They looked around—then saw a lone figure hovering in midair. It was Maguire, suspended above them in the Venom suit.

Jaws dropped. "Uh… think we can find that spider and have it bite me too?"

Holland and Garfield were shocked he could fly at all; Tony, inside the armor, was shocked by how fast it had just been. In barely two or three seconds, Obadiah had been driven into the pavement. Tony hurriedly pinged his AI. "JARVIS, compute that guy's movement speed."

JARVIS replied at once: "Estimated velocity approximately 1,100 meters per second—about three times the speed of sound."

Tony reeled. Mach 3. Terrifying.

Maguire gazed down coldly at the wailing Obadiah and drifted closer. Thanks to the suit's impact dampening, Obadiah was hurt but not dead. Seeing Maguire approach, he panicked, picturing his own execution.

"The way you were 'flying' just now… not bad," Maguire said, voice flat.

"F-Fly? My suit's totaled—I can't fly," Obadiah stammered.

"I'm talking to you. Didn't you hear me? Why aren't you flying?" Maguire's brow creased.

"M-My lord Demon, my armor's broken. I… can't."

"Oh? That so. Well, I'm the helpful sort. If you can't fly—I'll help you."

Terror washed over Obadiah's face.

Maguire flashed forward, and the symbiote cheered in his head. Another pitiful worm. Time to watch a beautiful blood-red firework.

Obadiah shrieked as Maguire lifted him one-handed.

"Why are you screaming? I'm helping you," Maguire frowned.

Obadiah clamped his mouth shut.

Maguire smiled. "That's better. I'm helping."

Iron Man immediately realized what Maguire meant to do and quickly covered Pepper's eyes with his gauntlet. Garfield and Holland traded a look—same thought in both minds: He's done for.

Maguire's arm snapped upward.

Whoosh—

Obadiah shot skyward like an artillery shell. Driven by monstrous strength, his acceleration spiked into the horrific range. Air friction shredded his suit in an instant; even his skin cracked and split under the blistering heat. In barely a second or two, he cleared a thousand meters, blacked out, then began to fall.

Splat.

A crimson "firework" burst on the ground. Blood spread across the pavement like paint.

Bystanders stared, petrified. Some with weaker stomachs fainted on the spot. Pepper pushed Tony's hand away and glanced at the ground—her face went bloodless, sick to her core.

Maguire looked at the gore, satisfied. "A proper send-off is an art."

Iron Man, Garfield, and Holland all felt their guts twist. Don't provoke this guy. Actually… even if you don't provoke him, he might not spare you. The meat on the pavement was proof enough.
