The glow swelled, spilling from Dillon's hands in a burst that drove the Sentinels back. Their screeches split the night, and Selene turned, shock widening her eyes.

One Sentinel lunged. Dillon's instincts flared — shadow rippled from his feet even as light poured from his palms, weaving together in a twisting blast. It struck the creature, shattering its bone frame to dust.
Selene pulled him away before he could process what happened. They sprinted into the wastes, the fog swallowing the last of the pursuit.
