Saturday arrived quickly, and Su Qing woke up early. She had already texted Jiang Sui that morning, and he had given her the room number.
Su Qing stared at the simple words on the phone screen, saying nothing more.
He never mentioned what happened that night again.
From that day on, he would still call her everyday at the appointed time, but between them, there was nothing else to hear except the quiet breathing.
He would not hang up until Su Qing said she was home.
Su Qing arrived at the hospital entrance around ten o'clock. Ranran hadn't come with her due to her cram school work, but she still took the opportunity to call her.
Su Qing walked outside the ward, carrying some fruit. Jiang Sui was standing there. The young man had his head down, talking on the phone. It was unclear what he was saying, but she could vaguely tell his expression wasn't good.
She stood there, pausing for a moment, watching him quietly. As the young man put away his phone, Su Qing abruptly turned her head.
She could sense the figure approaching.
The young man, still cold and elegant, held the fruit for her with his slender fingers and stood beside her. He was half a head taller than her. Without another word, he simply walked in.
Su Qing followed him, head bowed. A moment after he appeared beside her, she felt a slight limp. She bit her lip, a lump in her throat, and pinched her fingertips.
She secretly raised her head. He had lost some weight.
His fine black hair had been cut shorter, giving him a colder, more defined figure.
The single ward, though clean, still carried a faint, unpleasant smell of disinfectant.
Su Qing followed Jiang Sui inside.
Hu Yifan, with his sharp eyes, spotted Su Qing immediately.
"Brother wife-in-law, you're here!"
He wore a playful smile, the bandages on his face removed, leaving only a few scars. His red hair had grown considerably longer, tied in a small braid.
"Stop yelling!"
A cold voice came from Jiang Sui. The boy lowered his eyes, placed the fruit on the table beside him, stretched out his legs, and kicked Hu Yifan.
His words and expression were particularly cold.
Su Qing, who had been sitting on the sofa, had a half-red face, but it suddenly turned pale. Her fingers, resting on her knees, unconsciously gripped the fabric of her trouser legs.
Hu Yifan didn't think anything of it and didn't notice.
"I'm willing to call her that, and my brother wife-in-law didn't say anything!"
"Hurry up, pour some water for brother wife-in-law!"
He then called over to Jiang Sui. The young man's slender fingertips paused for a moment, and he remained silent.
Hearing this, Su Qing raised her face indifferently, her eyelids fluttering as she gazed at Jiang Sui's back. She said to Hu Yifan.
"Don't call me that. I'm not, and I don't like to hear it."
The words were filled with rejection and indifference.
Very good "I don't like to hear it.".
The boy's eyes held a bloody, bloody intensity, his lips pressed tightly together as he slammed the thermos down on the table.
A resounding sound followed the impact.
Hu Yifan, sitting on the bed, playing with his phone, couldn't help but glance at his expression. It was awful.
He watched as the boy tightened his joints, placed the water bottle in his hand, and slowly walked towards Su Qing.
Each step, measured and steady, stomped on Su Qing's heart.
Anyone could tell something was going on between them.
Hu Yifan didn't dare to breathe, putting his phone back in his pocket.
"Brother Sui, Qing Qing, if neither of you like it, I'll just stop yelling."
Su Qing clearly felt Jiang Sui's eyes darken even further, and his expression even uglier.
What was so uglier about his expression?
Su Qing lowered her head, unwilling to look, until the glass of water was placed in front her eyes.
She took the cup of water and held it in her palm, still feeling the warmth from the boy's fingertips.
Su Qing had thought Jiang Sui was leaving, but she hadn't expected him to sit beside her.
Sensing his presence, Su Qing lowered her head even lower. She wanted to move, but she didn't want to show it too obviously. She sat there stiffly, lips pursed, and silent.
Hu Yifan fell silent after receiving Jiang Sui's glare. He pulled out his phone and frantically messaged Liu Ranran.
But it was like a stone falling into the ocean, no one paid any attention to him.
A faint, cold emotion surged through the infinitely quiet air.
It wasn't until Jiang Sui's phone rang that the young man stopped looking at Su Qing and stood up to answer it.
He seemed busy?
Su Qing turned to watch Jiang Sui's back as he left, unconsciously tightening her grip on her water cup.
"Qing Qing, did you two have a fight?"
"Don't be angry, Brother Sui has a bad temper!"
As Jiang Sui left, the air seemed to lighten considerably. Hu Yifan, with the good intention of saving the young couple, sat down on the edge of the bed.
Su Qing wasn't good at talking; she simply hummed softly and changed the subject.
"Are you okay? Can you be discharged?"
Hu Yifan was nonchalant, his eyebrows raised, and he said nonchalantly, "I've been beaten countless times since I was a kid... No, no, I've been beaten since I was a kid, and I'm invincible. A man, how can not have some scars!"
He spoke without restraint, but he was quite optimistic, though his expression was slightly embarrassed.
Su Qing nodded, her fingers rubbing against the glass, and asked casually.
"What happened that day? You scared Ranran so badly."
"What did the police say?"
Su Qing's brow furrowed slightly. Holding the water cup, she pursed her lips and sipped it, her peripheral vision constantly scanning Hu Yifan's stiff, even bewildered expression.
The boy quickly adjusted himself.
"It's nothing. Sorry to scare you both. I just fell off the basketball court the other day. Luckily, it wasn't a concussion!"
His tone was light and cheerful. Hu Yifan clearly hadn't expected Su Qing to ask, but he still lied, the same one he'd told Liu Ranran.
But neither girl seemed to believe it.
After hearing this, Su Qing didn't ask any more questions. It was only a while later that Jiang Sui finally emerged from the doorway, clutching a stack of discharge surgery documents, followed by Hu Ling.
However, Hu Ling's face was clearly irritated, and her reluctance was clearly evident.
But when she saw Su Qing, her eyes suddenly lit up.
Then, casually, she said,
"Hey, you're here too, looking after your boyfriend? Tsk tsk tsk, I saw him shopping with a girl the other day!"
Her voice rose slightly, its tone lingering.
Su Qing's pale face was visibly stunned for a moment, and she pursed her lips in silence.
Jiang Sui stared at her with those deep eyes, also silent.
