Chapter 75 - Nick Fury's Bewilderment: This Stark Isn't Right

"Alright, Pepper."

"Leave the rest to the legal department. There shouldn't be any problems."

"Now, I have another important matter to entrust you with."

"I'm planning to relaunch the Stark Industries Expo."

"Yes, that's right. It's a very interesting endeavor, and I think it will be quite enjoyable."

Inside the Stark Tower office.

After a brief meeting with Pepper Potts, he wrapped up the matters concerning the Iron Man Armor.

Finally, he assigned the task of organizing the Stark Industries Expo to his assistant.

The playboy greeted the person and, patting his behind, returned to his role as a hands-off boss.

He leisurely returned to his luxurious villa.

Hmm?

Just as he entered the door, Tony Stark felt something was off.

Quiet. It was too quiet.

Normally, as soon as Tony Stark returned home, Jarvis would immediately come online and greet him.

Then, he would immediately observe Tony Stark's mood and adjust the room's lighting and color scheme to a suitable mode.

There was also the indoor air conditioning temperature, whether to play music, and a series of other operations.

In short, Jarvis would make corresponding adjustments based on the playboy's preferences and habits.

To ensure Tony Stark would be in the most relaxed and happy state of mind when he got home.

But now?

Jarvis was completely silent, without a sound, as if he had suddenly gone offline.

This was undoubtedly very abnormal, and it had never happened before.

"Jarvis?"

Tony Stark called out, a little strangely.

"I'm here, sir!"

It wasn't until his boss called out that Jarvis responded, sounding a little mechanical.

Something's wrong!

Something's very wrong!

Tony Stark immediately realized this.

His brow furrowed involuntarily, and a hint of wariness crept into his expression.

Could someone have tampered with Jarvis?

That was the most likely explanation.

After all, the probability of an artificial intelligence of Jarvis's caliber experiencing a bug was incredibly low.

Impossibly low, even.

And if someone had managed to do it, whoever they were, they were not to be trifled with!

Whoosh!

Sure enough.

The next moment.

Under Tony Stark's watchful and cautious gaze, the playboy happened to look up.

He saw a stranger standing in front of the wide, enormous floor-to-ceiling window!

What's going on?

Tony Stark was startled. Someone had broken into his house!

He had the most advanced artificial intelligence in the world guarding his home, yet someone still managed to get in.

This was almost impossible before.

So, who was this guy?

With this question in mind, Tony Stark began to look closely.

He saw a man standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, wearing a black robe and with his hands behind his back.

Because the other person was facing away, Tony Stark couldn't see what he looked like.

But when Tony Stark's gaze fell on the man's head, he suddenly understood.

"Nick Fury!"

"Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.!"

Tony Stark immediately guessed the other person's identity.

"'That wasn't a rumor,' 'I am Iron Man,' do you think you're the only superhero in the world?"

The next moment.

Accompanied by that deep, low voice.

That Bald Head turned around, and his features were completely revealed to Tony Stark.

Just as Tony Stark had guessed, the other person was indeed Nick Fury from S.H.I.E.L.D.!

As an intelligence chief who had participated in an alien war and controlled a massive intelligence agency like S.H.I.E.L.D., being able to crack Jarvis or something wasn't too strange.

After all, this Bald Head didn't look like much, but from the various spoilers in the diary, he was definitely not an ordinary person.

The playboy immediately understood.

"Mr. Stark, you've become part of a larger universe, you just don't know it yet!"

Nick Fury said these profound, high-class words as he walked towards Tony Stark.

"First of all, I never said I was the only superhero in the world, and I know I'm not."

"But without a doubt, I will be the most powerful superhero in the world."

"Well, maybe not now, but definitely in the future."

"Secondly, the 'larger universe' you're talking about, does that refer to aliens?"

"Then I bet your 'larger universe' is just the tip of the iceberg."

Facing Nick Fury's all-knowing, all-controlling gaze, Tony Stark casually and confidently spoke.

He wasn't just putting on a show.

Sure, he knew Nick Fury wasn't simple, having participated in an alien war.

But from what he could tell, it was probably just that war between the Kree and the Skrulls.

Even if he knew more, could it possibly be more than what was spoiled in the diary?

Tony Stark didn't believe it.

Would Nick Fury know about the Asgardians, the Cosmic Family Planning Commission, or Titan?

Know about at least 190,000 parallel universes?

Undoubtedly.

This director of S.H.I.E.L.D. has indeed experienced more than the average person.

The world he's seen isn't the world most people know.

The world in his eyes is far, far wider than most.

But even so, could it be wider than the world depicted in the diary?

The vast world in his eyes was just the tip of the iceberg compared to the vast world described in the diary!

Nick Fury: "..."

This development seems a bit off!

A little different from what was imagined.

Originally, Nick Fury wanted to cultivate an image of profundity and sheer awesomeness in front of Tony Stark.

To seize the initiative, preferably to intimidate Tony Stark.

In order to establish his authority, control the pace of negotiations, and seize the initiative…

He aimed to get Tony Stark under his thumb.

That's why he started with grand pronouncements like "you're not the only superhero" and "a larger universe," hoping to intimidate the playboy.

But Tony Stark's reaction was… oddly calm.

Far calmer than Nick Fury had anticipated.

Not only that…

Judging by the man's demeanor, it wasn't a feigned composure.

It was as if the bombshell information he'd revealed was already known.

And according to the information he possessed, Tony Stark, though always arrogant and conceited, wasn't the type to pretend to know things he didn't!

He wouldn't deliberately show off if he didn't know what was being discussed.

So.

Based on Bald Head's judgment and analysis, Tony Stark should indeed be aware of those things!

He knew that other superheroes existed in the world, and he also knew about aliens!

Nick Fury had to admit, this was a bit unexpected.

He hadn't expected Tony Stark to be so "knowledgeable."

This feeling of things being out of control was truly unpleasant, even if it was only slightly out of control.

Especially with that gaze of faint disdain and mockery, as if he was just a clown showing off!

It made Nick Fury feel quite depressed, like punching cotton.

"Oh, so you knew all along?"

Nick Fury raised an eyebrow, both curious and probing further, "Then, may I ask, besides yourself, which other superheroes do you know?"

"And about these aliens you mentioned, are you sure you're not referring to some science fiction movies?"

"Put away your clumsy probing."

Tony Stark didn't have the time to waste on words with Nick Fury. "You're not the only one who sees through the world's facade and knows its true face!"

Seeing Tony Stark's confident and matter-of-fact attitude, Nick Fury made an inner judgment.

It seemed he had underestimated the playboy before.

This person was more than just a simple super scientist!

He must have grasped and understood many unknown secrets.

There was also a high probability that he actually knew a corner of the real world.

"One last thing!"

As Nick Fury was deep in thought, Tony Stark's voice continued, "Even if you're the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., that doesn't mean you can just barge into my home!"

He actually knew who I was?

On the surface, Nick Fury remained composed, maintaining his air of inscrutable superiority.

But inwardly, he was caught off guard.

Tony Stark actually knew who he was?

Although S.H.I.E.L.D. was a higher-level organization than the FBI or CIA, its profile was far less prominent, even remarkably low-key.

S.H.I.E.L.D. agents often didn't even use their S.H.I.E.L.D. identities when on missions, instead posing as agents from the FBI or other intelligence agencies.

No problem.

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s reputation is too low; no one knows them, and they don't get any recognition.

It's completely different from how well-known organizations like the FBI are.

As a result, Tony Stark actually knew the director of such a "niche" intelligence agency!

This playboy's interests are way too broad, aren't they?

It seems like the old me really underestimated Tony Stark.

"Since you know me, things are much easier now. At least I can skip the introductions."

With those thoughts flashing through his mind, Nick Fury continued in an orderly manner, "I think this is a good start."

"What's the plan? I'm listening."

Tony Stark spread his hands, eyes locked on Nick Fury.

He was indeed quite curious about this.

Why had the man come uninvited? Was it to solve his palladium poisoning, or about the Avengers, or something else entirely?

"Stark, I'm here to talk to you about the Avengers," Nick Fury said, his expression serious, meeting Tony Stark's gaze.

This was completely unsurprising to the playboy.

After all, according to the intel from the diary, Nick Fury's sudden visit could only be for a few reasons.

But, should he join the Avengers and become an Avenger?

Tony Stark only thought for a moment before making his decision.

"I'm sorry, but whatever this… lame-sounding alliance is, I'm not interested."

Tony Stark gave a negative answer.

Of course.

Pretending not to know about the Avengers was just Tony Stark acting. Otherwise, it would be too suspicious.

He already knew he wasn't the only superhero, knew about aliens, and knew the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

You could chalk that up to his playboy lifestyle and vast knowledge.

But if he acted the same way about the Avengers, it would be really off.

After all, the only source of information for this organization is a diary! In other words, ordinary people shouldn't know.

Especially since the founder of the Avengers in front of him hadn't even established the organization yet.

Tony Stark wouldn't reveal such a flaw in front of an intelligence chief.

"Stark, I think you should understand that adults don't just do things based on their own interests."

"Moreover, I haven't even said what the Avengers are, how do you know you're not interested?"

Nick Fury's expression didn't change, and he began to introduce Tony Stark to what the Avengers were specifically about.

Originally, Nick Fury thought that since Tony Stark knew the truth of this world, he knew that the world was facing many extraordinary threats.

Plus, since he used to fight crime, he should be somewhat receptive to the Avengers.

But Tony Stark flatly refused.

For one thing, the playboy hadn't made that kind of decision yet.

Although he knew in his diary that another version of himself was indeed an Avenger, that person wasn't him and didn't represent him!

At least the current Tony Stark, lacking the necessary experiences, really had no intention of joining.

On the other hand?

He, the great Tony, didn't like Nick Fury!

This guy, who clearly had something his father left him, kept it hidden, only to pop out when he was about to die!

From a rational standpoint, Tony Stark understood his actions, and even had to admire his experience.

But emotionally, the playboy really looked down on him.

"This isn't looking too optimistic!"

Nick Fury's heart sank slightly, but he didn't dwell on it too much.

This kind of thing couldn't be resolved easily in just one or two attempts.

Bald Head had long been prepared to take things slowly.

In fact, up until now, Tony Stark was just one of Nick Fury's candidates, nothing more.

Nick Fury hadn't made a final decision to truly accept the playboy.

It was still just the initial stages of contact and assessment.

So, although Tony Stark wasn't being very cooperative, this mission wasn't considered a failure for Nick Fury.

"Goodbye, Stark."

"I have a feeling we'll meet again."

Nick Fury waved his hand dismissively, dropping this rather pretentious line on Tony Stark.

And with that, Nick Fury left the playboy's mansion.

"Sir, where to next?"

No sooner had she gotten into her car than Agent Hill, who was driving, began to ask her superior for instructions.

"Well…"

Without a moment's hesitation, Nick Fury provided the answer, "Let's go see another interesting fellow."
