The next day wasn't as pleasant as the previous one, because it seemed like the recruits just wanted to pick a fight with her at all cost.
She had been avoiding aggression ever since she found out it heightened her abilities till it went out of control.
On the training grounds the instructors weren't also helping matters for they wanted to push her to her limit of patience and no matter how much she looked around she couldn't find Diego anywhere.
"Why did she need him soo badly?". She thought to herself,maybe because of the fact he got some abilities too or was it something about his presence.
Then the last straw came when a trainee boy of a little higher rank decided that he just wanted to test the demon blood.
He pushed her intentionally causing her to trip over a stone and hit her lip on the rocky ground as blood seeped out of the side of her lips.
"You know for a demon you really have poor balance". He said as he passed her .
"And for an a***hole you don't have a lot of common sense". She fired back.
"What did you just say demon?"
"I said..... She hadn't completed her statement before a punch was landed on her causing her to stagger a little but still standing her ground.
Rage surged through her heart as her eyes changed colour like it had done.
She jacked a full grown man and flung him across the grounds causing him to crash on the wall.
A little crowd of training spectators had already gathered with gasps of awe as to what was happening.
She didn't stop there she ran across to where he was like the speed of light as he still tried to recover from the shock.
She caught him by the throat and pulled him up,by the looks of things that she was ready to kill him as her eyes were devoid of humanity.
Still in this position she lighted her other hand, as the blue flames came to life,she was ready to set the rascal ablaze until an intervention came snapping her back to reality.
She looked around and saw a group of people around her armed with daggers ready to attack at any time.
That was when she realised what she was doing and quickly let go of her victim causing him to crash to the ground and immediately gasped for air.
The crowd just stared at her in fear and disgust until the leader Dominica walked up to her and dragged her along.
"What did you think you were doing?". Dominica asked with rage in her voice.
"I don't know,it was an accident". She stammered.
"You need them to accept you into our community not everyone knows your capabilities and now they fear you".
"I wasn't the one who started it in the first place I was only defending myself".
"Defence or not,you attacked a human and that is very punishable,you will be dismissed to your room for the rest of the afternoon". She said as she pointed towards the door.
Jackie was very disappointed as she left the office,no matter how hard she tried they just saw her as a monster why did her life become like this?why did this power choose her?
She was angry at herself,she hadn't yet walked to her room,she wasn't just going to sit down there all afternoon brooding about herself.
She leaned on a pavement as she watched recruits scuttling to get ready for a mission,she watched them in silence as she asked herself why they risked their lives so, did they really believe in human salvation.
Still in her chain of thoughts a figure in the shadows appeared and spoke to her.
" Stop looking at them rookie they will think you are looking for a fight". The voice said snapping her to attention.
" I'm not here to make friends". She snapped back.
"With what you did earlier I don't think so, now they see you as a ticking time bomb and a weapon at the same time".
"Whatever they think is their business,I didn't ask for this".
"Well you see rookie your ability can be put to better use, you can join us for this mission"
Jackie turned to her in amazement for the first time as she now beheld the person behind the voice.
She was a muscled woman,with a scare across her eye and low shaved hair,her arms were crossed as she stared at her in distrust just like the others.
"My manners,call me lieutenant Kael, The resistance mission strategist".
"I'm Jacqueline Fernandez but they call me Jackie,I don't think you would need me in your mission". She turned her back on her.
"Very well then go back to your room as instructed as you are of less use and importance".
Jackie turned back and stared at her for a moment unsure if it was a trap or not,she hesitated and thought about it and decided it was best to join them than doing nothing all afternoon.
"Count me in then ". She said to her.
"Glad you changed your mind go prepare,grab your gear and meet here in ten minutes, don't be late". Kael said and turned her back and left.
Jackie stared in disbelief,she had hardly been here a week and now she was on her first mission,a sense of pride came over her as she rushed to the equipment room to hand pick her dagger and sword.
As she was doing this,she felt a figure around her and as she turned she found Diego with his smirk tugged lips.
"I can see you have a first mission already". He said to her as he touched a pointed dagger just close to him.
"If you have any problem with it I don't care ".
"I don't just try not to wind up dead, and plus I think your boyfriend might have a little problem with it". He said and walked away.
Jackie had totally forgotten about Lucas as she rushed to his room to find him up in a sitting position.
As predicted he wasn't happy at all as he asked if she wanted to die but no word said to her at that moment could change her mind.
Lucas yielded because he knew who Jackie was, always stubborn to the core,he just begged her to stay alive and be careful.
Jackie agreed and rushed for the meeting which she had somehow not arrived late.
Eyes stared at her in disbelief,What was the demon girl doing here ?.
Jackie stood her ground not being intimidated by their stares as the plan was mapped out and very concise.
The had to attack a demon strong hold and release their prisoners bringing them to the hideout,they will attack with precision and form as everyone was given a role to play.
The group wasn't much just of ten members,they wanted to move swiftly and didn't need any crowd with them.
When the lieutenant Kael was done briefing, she guessed the question in everyone's mind and said if anybody had a problem about the team they should drop out of the mission if not they should stay and keep shut.
As if clearly understood no one dared say a thing although they flashed her deadly glares, the couldn't utter a word.
They reached the grounds of the mission in a desolated area full of crumbled buildings and smokey atmosphere.
Everywhere was quiet too quiet as they pushed on,no sound was heard just their breathing.
Lieutenant Kael lead the way with two other individuals by her side while the rest of us were behind.
We could see nothing as we went deeper and even entered a poorly eliminated tunnel with neon lights flickering on and off.
Something tugged inside me as I could hear voices telling me it was a trap but I couldn't talk for I was already under suspicion.
And just then the unthinkable happened,we were attack by a group of marked demons as the broke out if the wall and killed like four of us in a chaotic battle.
It was as if they knew and heard we were coming and laid ambush on us.
We were surrounded with nowhere to escape as Lieutenant Kael shouted that I should do something unless we were all going to die.
That was the first time she let her powers lose,as if she had already known how to call on it the fire came burning them in a holy baptism as they screamed in terror.
Not only the fire this time,dark tendrils that choke and rip through demons shot out of her hands forming spirals.
It ripped through them which the fire hadn't yet consumed but something terrifying happened.
Not only did the tendrils kill demons,it tried to kill her remaining allies .
She managed to pull herself together as the tendrils got back inside and the flames died down like they were never there .
Jackie looked at the bloods on her hands before collapsing to the ground as the rest looked at her not in fear but with a new interest.
Back at home when she regained consciousness, lieutenant Kael told her how she wiped off the entire army as if there was no trace of them at all but she also left a dark warning.
"Be easy now,they no longer keep you around for keeps sake they are afraid of what would happen if you turned against them. You carry power that once brought ruin to our kind,prove you are not him". She said and left her sitting there .
Now that leaves the question who is he?. Jackie thought.
