The air was thick with heat. While Buzzwole was still recovering from the stagger caused by Lin Shou's feint, a wave of scorching fire roared from behind.

It was Blaziken, unleashing a fierce Flamethrower.

The massive Ultra Beast had no chance to dodge. Still in a semi-crouched, defensive posture, Buzzwole took the full brunt of the blast square in the back. The impact rocked its frame, the flames searing through its chitin-like armor with brutal efficiency — the type advantage made the hit devastating.

"Buzzwole, Drain Punch!" Zhou Ze barked.

Buzzwole's compound eyes flared with determination. With explosive speed, it lunged forward, one colossal arm rearing back before slamming a glowing fist straight into Lin Shou's chest.

Bang!

The blow would have shattered a lesser trainer. Fortunately, Lin Shou's Multiscale ability activated, dulling the worst of the damage. Even so, the hit still tore away 42 HP — nearly sixty percent of his total health. Without that ability, it might have been enough to drop him entirely.

A pulse of green energy flowed back into Buzzwole's body, knitting its injuries as it restored nearly twenty percent of its health.

But Lin Shou didn't back down. Instead, he surged forward, his own Close Combat erupting in a storm of strikes — fists, knees, and sweeping kicks battering the Ultra Beast in rapid succession. Under the arena's lights, fragments of cracked armor glinted like shards of a shattered rainbow.

"Dodge! Then another Drain Punch!" Zhou Ze shouted, reading the exchange instantly.

Even if every one of Lin Shou's strikes landed, Buzzwole's natural resilience meant the damage would be minimal. But Lin Shou had planned ahead.

Blaziken's eyes lit up with a pink glow, the psychic energy wrapping around both herself and her trainer. Skill Swap wasn't the move — instead, it was Ally Switch.

A flash of warped space, and suddenly Buzzwole's target was gone — replaced by Blaziken's fiery glare and defiant stance.

Buzzwole's fist swung through empty air where Lin Shou had been, and before it could recover, Blaziken's Flamethrower roared point-blank, engulfing the Ultra Beast completely.

[Ding!]You have defeated Buzzwole and acquired the skill: Drain Punch.(Attack the target with your fist, restoring HP equal to half the damage dealt.)

Zhou Ze recalled the fainted Buzzwole into its Ultra Ball but gave Lin Shou a sharp look. "Brother… is that Blaziken even legal? How did you swap places like that?"

Lin Shou scratched the back of his head, feigning confusion. "No idea. A friend gave it to me."

Zhou Ze studied him for a long moment, then let it drop. Everyone had their secrets, after all.

"That's not actually why I came here," he said, lifting the Ultra Ball.

"Not interested in the Ultra Wormhole," Lin Shou said instantly.

That made Zhou Ze's expression sharpen. "Boss Lin… so you do understand the Ultra Wormhole?"

"I heard someone at the hotel mention it once," Lin Shou said with the best poker face he could muster.

"But I never told you Buzzwole was a Pokémon exclusive to the Ultra Wormhole," Zhou Ze said slowly.

Lin Shou froze. He'd let too much slip.

"Fine," Lin Shou huffed. "So what if I know? You gonna give me a Pheromosa as a gift?"

Zhou Ze blinked. "Pheromosa? What's that? Another Pokémon?"

Lin Shou clamped his mouth shut.

Zhou Ze's gaze sharpened further. "Boss Lin… you know about Pokémon the Dragon Kingdom League hasn't even documented yet?"

"Never heard of them," Lin Shou replied, switching to his well-practiced "I'm a clueless idiot" act. "Ababa Ababa, I know nothing."

"Relax. I only came to ask a small favor."

Lin Shou wasn't falling for that. "Tell me first."

"In a while, Odyssey University will be sending students on internships to the Ultra Wormhole — confirmed safe. It's to give them a taste of the wider world before entering society."

Lin Shou remained silent.

"To lead a group, you need an Ultra Wormhole pass. One of the professors is on leave, so I was hoping you'd take his place," Zhou Ze continued.

Lin Shou gave him a long look, then pulled out his own pass and waved it mockingly. "You've been plotting this for days, haven't you?"

"Don't worry," Zhou Ze said, patting his chest. "I take a combat squad every year. Nothing's ever gone wrong."

"If it's so safe, why bring Buzzwole to 'show it the world'?" Lin Shou countered.

Zhou Ze didn't answer that. "Fine, name your price. What'll it take for you to come?"

"How about telling me what's really there first?" Lin Shou said.

Before Zhou Ze could answer, his phone buzzed. One glance at the message, and he set it aside.

"Alright, but this is classified Dragon Kingdom information," he said, leaning closer. "We've found a strange space deep inside the Ultra Wormhole. Pokémon can't pass through it. We need you to come see what's inside."

Lin Shou stared. "You're treating me like a Pokémon now?"

"More importantly, you're a Wave Hero," Zhou Ze said seriously. "If there are mythical Pokémon inside, communication will be easier with you there."

"Let me think about it…" Lin Shou said, unconvinced.

"No rush. The internship's more than a month away," Zhou Ze said, satisfied to see Lin Shou's resistance falter.

If he still refuses… I'll just camp outside the training hall every day, Zhou Ze thought.
