Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Level 5 Mutant

[Six Eyes — Level 2 (1/300): Grants 360‑degree long‑range vision, allowing the user to see the flow of energy with extreme clarity and perform precise energy manipulation.]

With his Six Eyes upgraded, Sam Moore's crystal‑clear range had more than doubled—from 200 meters to 500 meters.

Within that range, he could track small targets, follow exact flows of energy, and detect motion with terrifying accuracy. Beyond 500 meters, his vision still reached farther, but like normal sight at a great distance: he could see forms, not detail.

The upgrade brought a new gift: clairvoyance.

Now he could see straight through about four inches of solid steel—in full color, and with perfect definition. None of the hazy black‑and‑white limitation of the Byakugan; this was as if the walls weren't even there.

One of my dream powers, back in my old life… and I get it this easily.

The thought should have thrilled him. Instead, it almost felt anticlimactic.

And then—

"Hm?"

Through that greatly expanded vision, Sam spotted several drones racing in his direction. Farther out, a heavily armed squad was advancing at high speed, moving in tight formation behind them.

This wasn't Kingpin's crew. It wasn't even mafia muscle. With gear like that, there was only one possibility: military—and not just any branch, but the type of covert unit built for one job: mutant capture.

He smiled coldly at the nearest drone's camera… and loosed a basketball‑sized azure vortex. The Technique Shift — Blue swallowed the machine out of the air like it had never existed.

Drawing on cursed energy to reinforce his body, Sam turned and slipped away fast.

The original owner's memories told him enough about this special unit—they fielded mutants of their own. Unpredictable powers and lethal skill. Even Infinity wasn't absolute against everything.

No point trading blows now. Especially in this growth phase. What he needed was power—energy to charge his system, levels to raise his Template Fusion. Once he unlocked Reversal Technique, his survival odds would spike; the healing alone could erase a lot of risk.

A hidden military base. Rows of screens covered the walls.

Several feeds went black almost simultaneously. A few seconds of silence—and then voices rose.

A soldier snapped to attention. "Colonel Stryker, multiple drones destroyed in quick succession. Target Unit 9527 appears to have gone through a secondary mutation—he's showing new abilities."

Stryker's eyes narrowed. "Pull footage from the moment before each drone went down."

Frames rolled across the largest screen. The feed showed a tall, lean man with white hair standing in the street. A drone hovered, angled toward him. He looked directly at the camera, grinning. An azure sphere bloomed in his palm—then shot forward. The screen cut to black.

Every destroyed drone's camera told the same story. The blue vortex moved impossibly fast, shredding metal in an instant.

And more: the man had clearly been waiting for the drones. His perception range was huge.

White hair. Blue eyes. That smile.

Stryker spoke evenly, face hardening. "Capture 9527 at all costs. He's worth studying. Deploy Subjects 1085 and 1086. 1086's spatial offensive should bypass his defenses."

A grim smirk followed. "He wants to provoke me? Fine. We'll answer."

1407 Graymalkin Lane. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

In the hidden lab, Jean Grey handed Charles Xavier a new report.

"Professor, Stryker's unit is mobilizing. He's putting serious resources into capturing a mutant with the call‑sign 9527."

"9527…" Xavier's eyes narrowed. He remembered the file.

Like Stryker, the name brought to mind another legend—Sebastian Shaw, the Black King. That man had been able to absorb even nuclear energy, a monster in human form. Xavier and Erik had only beaten him through sheer chance.

But 9527—real name Sam Moore—was the opposite end of the spectrum. A minor, Level 1 mutant whose original ability was virtually useless. Not worth recruiting immediately.

And yet… now Stryker was moving heaven and earth to take him.

That meant something had changed.

Xavier reached for Cerebro, extending his telepathic range to scan for Sam's mind. He found—nothing.

Not just shielding. Total absence. Even Jean could normally sense his presence, but now… nothing.

Which left two possibilities: Sam Moore had developed a mutation that completely blocked even Charles Xavier… or he'd awakened into something far beyond a Level 1.

Level 5?

It wasn't impossible.

Xavier looked back at Jean, his tone urgent. "Find him before Stryker. And before Erik. If we can get to Sam Moore first and bring him here, it could change everything. He may already be… a Level 5 mutant."
