Chapter 42 - Safety protocol

Just as that thought passed through his mind, a deep, quaking reverberation shook the entirety of his being, shaking his individuality awake and consequently freezing the powers he had roused under the influence of the proliferating forest's remnant consciousness.

"I… am not… the proliferating forest; I am an Elt! That cursed thing!" He muttered as he folded his consciousness back into his mortal body, properly becoming an individual again in every sense of the word and not a sprawling consciousness.

'That thing almost took over me!'

He quickly unfused with the proliferating forest, the heart falling into his hands again in the form of a staff.

He heard the disembodied voice announcing, an act that buttressed the gravity of the situation he just escaped.

The temptation of wielding overwhelming power personally instead of through the medium of the staff assailed his mind as he held onto the heart.

Tune your salesman's pitch down. I can still get to the same control through wielding the heart instead of fusing with it. Haa! Absolute power really corrupts absolutely. He ordered, the remnant consciousness of the proliferating forest instantly obeying.

Even if the experience had been a very, very unpleasant one, which he would rather not repeat, for the first time, a lesser amount of questions were formed than were answered.

Mike had always wondered how big this reality was or who the administrator was.

'It turns out that this reality is 353 universes great. And who would have thought that the administrator is such a person?

From what his intelligent mind had pieced together, he found out that the administrator was the one behind the fragmentation, or at least had a hand in it.

'I guess a thank you is in order.'

He muttered, given the fact that he was saved firstly by the unseen gaze of the administrator, if the memories of the proliferating forest were to go by.

What was even better was him getting to know what the fragmentation was. Yes, he still had no idea of what the laws of fragmentation were, but he still had a general understanding of what it was by experiencing the emotions and thoughts of the proliferating forest manifested through his person.

In a turn of events, the near mind takeoverlet him discover the position he was in in the power structure of the multiverse, and if it turns out that the entirety of his home world was transported here, then it would be bad news.

It is surprising that just as we get to happen on supernatural powers, I get to discover that we are not up to a small fry to a germ on a small fry in the multiverse.

Even if he now had the proliferating forest, given the danger of fusing with it, he would rather use it as a top-secret weapon of last resort, the secrecy being because if those pinnacle existences, who reacted in fear at his 'I am back' declaration while he was under the influence of the proliferating forest, come to discover that it was a puny mortal like him that wielded control over their greatest fear, they would rather kill him and get it over with.

'At least, like the central government in my home universe, I now have my equivalent of a zircon armament in this mystery-gilled reality.' he thought to himself.
