Chapter 11 - chapter 11: Lost soul

Chapter 11: Lost Soul

She stared at the red haired girl, still confused.

"Mei… mei," she repeated slowly, testing the name on her tongue like she was tasting an unfamiliar flavor.

For some reason, just saying it made her chest feel heavy, like she had forgotten something important.

I am sorry for forgetting you, Mei, she said quietly. It wasn't my intention.

She tried her best not to let her voice shake, not to slip up, not to let Mei guess that something was… different.

Yunxia's Soul – Mysterious Cave

It was hard to tell how long I had been here. Hours? Days? Maybe even weeks?

Time didn't seem to work the same way in this place.

I had been walking or maybe floating along a single, thin, endless thread of red light. It stretched forward forever, no matter how far I moved.

I didn't need food.

I didn't need water.

I didn't even need to sleep.

But there was one thing I couldn't ignore the strange signs that kept appearing in the air around me.

[SYSTEM ERROR]

They popped up every time I moved, like flashing warning lights, It felt like… like I wasn't supposed to be here at all.

Finally, after what felt like forever, I reached the end of the thread.

The space around me changed instantly.

I now stood in the middle of a wide, open plain under a sky that wasn't like any sky I had ever seen before.

It was bright, too bright.

The light was so strong I couldn't even figure out what colour the sky was. It wasn't blue, it wasn't white it was just light and no matter how hard I squinted, I couldn't tell where the light was coming from.

Then I saw them.

Two massive glowing orbs hung high in the sky.

One was red deep, dangerous red, the color of fresh blood. The other was blue soft and calm like the ocean.

Except… they weren't the same size. The red one was fifty times bigger than the blue one, and the blue one was spinning around the red so fast that if you didn't look closely, you'd think it was just a ring wrapped around it.

Beneath those two strange orbs was something even stranger.

A sea.

Or… at least, it looked like a sea from far away.

I walked toward it slowly, my feet making no sound on the strange, empty ground.

When I reached the edge, I knelt down and leaned over the surface, expecting to see my reflection in the water.

But there was no reflection.

Instead, what looked back at me… wasn't me at all.

It was just light.

A tiny, glowing ball of pure white light.

I froze.

Was… was this my soul?

Before I could figure that out, the "light" began to ripple, and suddenly something started playing inside it like a video.

It was Mei.

She was talking to me.

My breath caught.

How? I was dead. I had felt it the pain, the cold, the end.

Why was Mei speaking to me like I was still there?

Then I saw something that made my blood run cold.

I was wearing a hospital gown.

Had Li Shen taken me to the hospital?

Did he figure out that Yue'er poisoned me?

Or was it Madam Li who saved me?

But then… the figure in my body wasn't me.

Someone else was moving inside my body living in it while I was stuck here.

A storm of emotions hit me at once

Fury – How dare someone steal what was mine?

Frustration – Why couldn't I do anything about it?

Jealousy – She was breathing, moving, speaking in my voice.

Relief – If my body was alive… maybe there was still a way back.

But first, I needed to figure out three things:

Where was I? How did I get here? and most importantlyhow could I leave?

I turned back to the strange sea.

Maybe… maybe I could interact with it.

I reached out my hand, remembering the odd fruit I had touched earlier in this place.

To my surprise, my fingers didn't pass through the surface.

It wasn't water.

It felt slimy, almost alive.

A cold wind suddenly swept across the plain, making the light around me flicker.

Then

Everything went dark.

It was like the source of that blinding light had been extinguished.

The only thing left glowing in the darkness was me the tiny, floating ball of light that was my soul.

Then came the red flash.

It lit up the entire sky for a single, terrifying second, and everything inside me screamed danger.

The red light didn't just shine it moved.

It was rushing toward me like a living storm.

Not to touch me.

Not to pass me.

To swallow me whole.

Every part of me knew, if that thing touched me, I would disappear completely.

And I wasn't about to let that happen.

Some stubborn, human instinct inside me the instinct to survive—l kicked in hard.

I turned toward the slimy sea and jumped without thinking.

There was no splash.

The moment I touched the surface, the whole thing rippled like liquid glass, and I felt a force grab me from below.

It was pulling me down fast.

I fought against it, but the harder I resisted, the stronger it pulled.

Gravity here didn't feel normal it felt personal, like it wanted me.

I kept struggling… until I realized it was useless.

The moment I stopped resisting, the sea reacted.

It didn't just pull me down it spat me out.

Hard.

And when I opened my eyes again, What I saw took my breath away.

A sea of flowers.

Everywhere I looked, there were blossoms of every colour imaginable, red petals swaying gently in an invisible breeze.

Blue flowers glowing faintly in the shade.

Golden stems that seemed to hum with life.

The air was sweet so sweet it almost made me dizzy.

I stepped forward slowly, the soft ground giving under my bare feet.

Whatever this place was… it felt different from anywhere I had been before.

But deep down, I knew one thing for certain.

This was only the beginning.

Something or someone had brought me here for a reason.

And I wasn't leaving without finding out what it was.
