Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 6 II

Yunxia's Body – My POV (Nyx)

Writhing in pain, I felt my body convulsing—like it was trying to reject me, or maybe trying to evolve.

My consciousness flickered. I didn't know what kind of power this body had awakened... or if it awakened anything at all.

But I knew this much—awakening doesn't mean you get some cool ability. It just means... your body's mutated.

In other words, you're a zombie. But not a zombie. A walking virus. A failed upgrade waiting to snap.

There were stages to this thing. Mutant, Deviant, Origin... all I could do was pray this body gave me something useful.

I staggered, barely making it into the tiny apartment the girl had bought with her savings. As soon as I hit the floor, blood spilled from my mouth. My limbs went numb. The poison in the body was still there—still burning me out from the inside.

Just as everything faded to black, it happened.

A cold spark in my brain. My breath caught in my throat. My eyes rolled back—and I saw it.

The awakening.

"Ding!"

First Player Awakening Confirmed.

Welcome, Player. You will now be transported to the Void for orientation.

Nyx's Body — Yunxia's POV

I remembered that smirk on her face—the one Yue'er wore right before everything went dark. I couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh. It was stupid. I knew the maids acted off. I knew something was wrong with that tea. And yet... I still drank it.

The warmth in my body had drained away, replaced by a coldness that sank into my bones.

As my vision flickered, I stared out into what remained of the world—twisted steel, collapsed buildings, ash floating through the air like snow. The stench of decay clung to everything.

"Where... am I?"

No one answered. Only the low, guttural growls of monsters echoed back.

Then it hit me—memories. Not mine. A flood of someone else's life washed over me. A girl with quiet dreams and quiet pain, who spent her days just existing. Watching them felt surreal, distant. I didn't cry. I didn't scream.

I just watched.

Detached. Cold. Empty.

Her life was... dull. Lonely. Pointless.

Almost like mine.

And yet, for reasons I couldn't explain—I felt pity.

I decided to leave this place that reeked of death. The air was heavy, and the scent clung to my skin—or... whatever I was now. I didn't make it far before I heard rustling nearby.

At first, I thought it might be monsters. But no... I remembered them. Those faces. Her so-called teammates. Nyx's team. The ones who'd left her behind to die.

"Aww, they must've come to bury her," I thought dryly.

I was wrong.

Instead of mourning, they were ransacking her half-eaten corpse, digging through her torn gear for supplies like vultures. They laughed, calling her names—"Dead weight. Burden. Weakling."

She was their leader.

I moved on instinct, ready to smack the disrespect out of them—but my hand passed straight through. I froze, staring at my translucent fingers, a sickly green mist swirling faintly around me.

"Wait... am I a—?"

That's when I noticed them.

Eerie figures. Warped, twisted—humanoid in shape, but barely. Some shuffled like shadows, others floated, all aimless... lost. The green mist spread, curling like vines of rot. I realized I wasn't alone. The dead were walking. But not in flesh.

Then the pain hit.

A searing, soul-splitting pain that yanked through my very essence. The world spun violently, and suddenly I wasn't just seeing—I was feeling. Screams. Wails. Monsters of the dead howling beside me. Ghosts like me, souls broken by betrayal, rage, hunger... regret.

My body—or spirit—trembled uncontrollably as I clutched my head.

What was happening to me ...?
