Miranda settled into the passenger seat as Nolan pulled up near her sister's apartment on Sunday morning. The engine went silent as he turned the key, then shifted to face her.
"Are you sure you don't want me along?" His eyes searched hers, concern evident in his expression.
"No," she replied honestly. "It would only complicate things."
Nolan nodded, then surprised her with his next words. "I'm being transparent here. I'm driving down there anyway. There's a property I'm considering as a weekender. Call me if you need anything."
Miranda studied his face, wondering about the timing. Was this a recent decision or had he planned it before their relationship took this turn? Knowing Nolan, this wasn't a fabrication – he didn't operate that way.
"What property?" she asked, curious about this revelation. She hadn't known he was in the market for a vacation home.
